Thank you, I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve got two zygo, both to be repotted in the Spring, hopefully they won’t need replacing. Wish me luck🙏

Apart from Miltoniopsis, I've lost more Zygos than any other type of orchid.

I think your zygo will be fine above the media. That's their growing patterns. Like a miltoniopsis important to keep the sudobulb above the media and not burried. The roots will go down easily I would say.

Can you film the potting of the Zygo and show it on the channel ?

I have Zygopetalum maculatum baby plant.. Got it this spring cause it caught my mother's eye.. No idea why it ended up in my care (she's the greener thumb if things come to comparison). It has 2 growths. South-west window, with growlights added before winter. A bit sheltered from summer midday sun. First growth has finished it's bulb plumping and has tiny eye pushing, second is almost done. Both plants aren't in pot much cause they grew like building a ladder (from the ground up without knowing end height) .. I have a feeling that the baby zygopetalums are even more fussy so plan to skip repotting. 😅 The growth habit is interesting but sometimes I question my sanity. 😂

Roger, thanks for this tutorial ❤ I had a Zygonisia, went downhill and died after a repot 😥 I'm sad about it because I love its blooms and scent 😢 You are always informative and I learned from your video ❤❤❤

The chances are that my un-named hybrid is a Zygonisia.

Thank you Rodger for the great information on the Zygo’s ! I had two last year and lost them! I’m going to try again and have 3 of them this year 🤞🏻 Enjoy your videos 😍

My lastest two hybrids were both bought in June 2021 - so they are lasting a lot longer than pervious attempt.

That description of the growth pattern of Cymbidium flower spikes is so true! Four of currently six spikes on my "Eastern Bunny" appeared in late summer and were doing nothing until early December when they started growing rapidly as if they were about to miss a train 😄 Thanks for the lively and informative portrait of the genus - helpful also in giving those who decided not to try Zygos in the first place a good reason for that 🙂

I have found Zygos and Miltoniopsis the hardest to keep going for any length of time.

J&L Orchids in Connecticut had some in spike last time I was there earlier this month. They also had a hybrid of two genus that produced a mini zygo with dark red flowers. I haven't tried a Zygo yet but I like they ones with green and purple flowers. I heard they can be potted in soil but I don't think I'd ever try that. Maybe it's possible to repot it while it's under water? 😅

Really like the chats about the different varieties with examples. Was wondering if when these repots are done of the different types at your meeting, could it be filmed then posted on your channel as a vudeo ? Would get views im sure. Enjoy the day, Roger

I was in IKEA Exeter today and they had big cymbidium plants in spike, blooms just starting to open. £13 each! Difficult to see what colour they’ll be as they’re just opening. Some are dark buds and some lighter ones so they do have a few different ones. Just labelled as cymbidium hybrid but very big bulbs and healthy plants
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai10 күн бұрын
I really have used the last bit of 'Cymbidium space' with this latest one - also, my nearest IKEA is the far side of Southampton. If Cymbidiums were more popular amongst orchid growers, it would be worth buy half a dozen to sell on at £20.
