Always nice to get blooms as reward for the care given over the past period.

Flower shop phals are so peculiar. I live in Puerto Rico and I expose them to as much heat and sun as possible. Some growers might be horrified by what I put them through 😂. The result is plenty of branching spikes and blooms, each phal with more than 9 leaves. As of right now I have one phal with 20+ buds, branches included. Another one with three spikes, possibly 40+ buds with signs of possible branching! Looks a scraggly mess because I didn’t bother to guide the spikes, but it’ll take over half the shelving space 😅. The temperature doesn’t need to cool down that much, 25-21 Celsius is enough to get them going. As for fertilizer I just use whatever I might have on hand, some fish emulsion whenever I remember to use it. Nothing fancy or overly strict. Perfect for beginners, very forgiving and varied in colors and shapes. I envy the fact that you can grow cymbidiums, they’re my true love orchid. Love your videos so far, take care!

Thank you very much for the great chat and beautiful blooms and buds, Roger. Buds, the promise and the hope they stand for, are maybe even the best thing in orchids at all. The new spike on my discounted Phal "Las Vegas" is also rather mediocre despite two very big and fleshy leaves the plant grew during the summer. I think it is just a trait of this hybrid to start small and then extend and branch the spikes over and over again.

Once my Cymbidiums and their staging have gone outside for the Summer, I will probably put most of the Phals back out in the growroom to take advantage of the extra heat and light.

Hi, Roger! Thank you for this lovely video! In spite of the harsh weather, you have many blooms and buds. Those Cymbidiums are really pretty! 😊🌸 That Cymbidium in spike with the thick spick but few blooms reminds me of a Phaleonopsis I have that produced a thick and healthy spike...with very few blooms. I do not understand what happened, as my other Phaleonopsis did quite well. PS: That Coelogyne Cristata is stunning!

Often, the Phals we buy in bloom have been grown in near perfect conditions and subject to trade feed and hormones we just can't get hold of. They are sort of 'forced' to bloom better than they naturally would.

Phaelanopsis are lovely, but contrary little shits sometimes. When they have made their mind up to cark it, die no matter what you do. Usually very quickly. Lucky us orchid growers are patient & persistent. Cheers Roger

Having toured a Phal specialist nursery and seen that even some of those have Fusarium, I think that is often the culprit.

Yes - considering it was dropped, and it would prefer warmer temps, it's doing quite well. Far more buds than ever before.
