One additional trick I found useful for stealth was whistling. Besides calling your horse, it causes all nearby enemies to investigate without inherently causing detection. I usually used it near tall grass, then hid in said grass until a group gathered for a chain assassinate. You could also whistle near a quickly climbable building to get a vantage point for air assassinates upon enemy investigation, but this is trickier since this can often create a greater risk for detection. Whistling isn't always available (indoors, certain terrain your horse can't reach, some missions), but it can be good for conserving resources or before the player unlocks wind chimes/firecrackers.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Definitely useful, quite exciting as well due to the risk-factor.

Once you get a hang of it, the stealth system really does lend itself well to speedy, efficient clears. Slow and steady absolutely has its place- especially in larger, more heavily populated areas- but it's not something you're at all locked to. I remember clearing through one of the medium-sized camps in Part 2 like a divine wind of death, and all I could think at the end was "Shit, is this how Leo feels in Unity?" On the subject of armor, I love the Ronin set, but I've got to give some serious credit to a certain set that improves standoffs. Standoffs typically don't immediately bring the whole camp on you, so the ability to kill several guys at once means you can often significantly thin their numbers without alerting the others, and you can combine it with some other mechanics to really make yourself dangerous. Also, I know parkour isn't really the focus of the game, but I do hope to see you drop a video on mobility. There's some really cool and useful stuff that the game just leaves you to figure out for yourself, and I think a lot of the community is really sleeping on it.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, absolutely! That's why I think Ghost of Tsushima will live for years, just like Unity. There's a lot of expressiveness, and if you play your hand right you can carve through locations at _incredibly_ high speed. Regarding Ronin vs That Armor TM, the existence of its specific mechanics might be considered an experiential spoiler by some players so I consciously omitted it from this introductory video, which I anticipate newcomers / beginners will be clicking on. That kind of stuff will be covered in-depth in future parts of this series, I want them to discover the 'oh shit' moments themselves at first. Regarding movement, it's quite simple but it does indeed have some juice. Pretty intrigued to explore it and figure it out. The grappling hook alone adds a lot.
@drakeford48604 жыл бұрын
@@LeoKRogue Good point. I've edited my comment to ommit the spoiler while still making the general point. I think just the ability to turn a vault into a jump really opens up a lot of possibilities for both assasination and traversal. It's something I discovered on accident and haven't really seen in another game, and it's been a hugely important tool for me ever since. It doesn't necessarily always get you places you couldn't go without it, but it creates a surprising number of options and can really speed things up.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, like, normally, vaulting an obstacle just deposits you on the other side. But tapping Jump during the animation lets you springboard off of it and move in wacky, potentially unintended ways across certain architecture.

I reckon most reviewers played this game on Normal and didn't attempt to delve into Stealth's creativity and player-expression. Most of the people who come to me after playing in a stealth-heavy way for a few days let me know it's really enjoyable. And I agree with them. Stealth in Ghost of Tsushima is very good. Enemies behave in expected ways, strategies are possible, complexity and depth are possible. You can't no-kill most of the missions in the game, but there are several which let you just ghost through them.

Your narrative technique is amazing... when you are talking of bows you go to 9:34.. you cut short an already seen scene you shown in the video previously just hinting to what we had seen before and without actually using the entire time to signify it with the images. I don't think this has been done randomly, it was intentional from you... This is really good path-reuse approach (a design also well adopted in some games that make the player rewalk areas they have already visited)... But the stealth really is lackluster. It's pretty bare bone and stuff you've already seen before. It doesn't bring a single new thing. It should've used the Arkham fear system where enemies start been less and less effective as you pick them on one by one. Instead, they randomly get scared and run away while the others act like they have nothing to worry about and still try to fight you.

The Sakai armor also gives you an extra kill in standoffs, so you can get up to 4, which also will sometimes terrify opponents. It doesn't look very stealthy, but if you use the first or even second level aesthetic of it, and keep it black it's passable. Also, I've noticed dropping smoke and then hitting triangle to chain assassinate isn't always consistent, sometimes I get a heavy attack instead. Though I may be hitting it before the chain assassinate prompt pops up.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, more in depth stuff like that will be covered later, this is an introduction, not comprehensive.

If you run farther away and have the right setup on your character for equipment or maybe not you can break the detection bar and re-engage from behind the enemy because they walk Away from you and can go in any direction which sets you up for a sweet assassination. 2nd tip= you can also bait the enemy into chasing you and going into tall grass and if you go in deep enough that also breaks the detection meter. And easy chain kill. Because they will call their teammates over. Good for random encounters but for missions drawing them away from a spot a secluded one. Also getting them to go another way temporarily works. Like if you need to squeeze through to get to a checkpoint. Always go in with a plan. Play the game in a calm like manner and relax on unnecessary erratic movements. Watched your AC Unity Stuff leo. Good to see you. Been doing well on ghost on no damage fights.

The interesting thing about GoT is that all of this stuff just came naturally to me; I never sat there and tested all of these different mechanics, I just went for it and mostly everything I tried actually worked (when it wasn’t cocked up by me being bad, of course). Even with the more advanced stuff, the game just has a way of making so much of this stuff be just a logical conclusion to a train of thought that people who have experience with stealth games will naturally come to. It’s masterful work by Sucker Punch, and I can’t praise them enough for it.

how cherry bombs work in ACU it kind of makes sense to me. cherry bombs they are a pretty contained explosion and something kids used to have fun. Things like firecrackers & cherry also have a distinct visual profile as well as auditory. There's so much visual & auditory noise going on in Paris, so many distractions. Cherry bombs act as more of a visual lure than an audio one because a guard hearing a couple bangs isn't going to sound that out of the ordinary they might not even notice it given all the chaos and commotion they constantly have to take in and process. They'll probably think some kids are messing around or it's nearby gunfire over some dispute, either way not their problem. If you throw it directly in their line of sight they will think someone is trying to mess with them specifically and go to investigate it because it's within line of sight of their post, so they can investigate it while staying somewhat on guard. You can actually see that they often do hear the cherry bombs if you throw out of their line of sight they just don't investigate because they have no reason to. Even if they were under suspicion someone was trying to lure them away, why would they leave their post to investigate that? Better to just stay where they are and wait. If they can see the cherry bomb though, it piques their curiosity enough to check it out or they worry it's something more sinister like maybe it has different mixture of explosive powder and is going to explode violently.

Oh and Leo! Should I use the stab move with stone stance as an assassination move to or Square assassination? Which one is faster so I can get away. Because i was thinking that square assassination is faster than triangle assassination because of slow down and multiple targets.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Square Assassination is ultimately faster and stealthier, I've never seen anyone using Stone Stance's charged heavy as a stealth kill. Just upgrade your Tanto and you'll be fine.

The thing is though, the enemies dont even notice you when you kill their friends in front of them. And i think they also dont care about dead bodies, atleast this is what i heard from my friend
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
In my experience on Hard wearing only Traveler's Robes, that is false. It depends on Distance and whether they're already looking at you. Things you hear second-hand are, of course, not going to be as useful as personal experience but there are moments where, if you play well, you can sneak in a kill and quickly leave before you're exposed. It gets harder to do in the mid and lategame.

I assume AC and Batman Arkham veterans can just jump into this game and use their knowledge to be the most efficient in stealth. The aggressive combat with a fairly close camera might require a bit of time to master.

After 30ish hours of gameplay, I feel like I understand combat well enough to be confident now. It definitely takes a long time but it's super smooth once it clicks. And you can do a lot of creative and flashy stuff with it.

The most troubling choice I have when it comes to upgrading my stealth is the Tanto. Level 1 animation is bloody and brutal, Level 2 is basically John Wick, and Level 3 is quick and clean, but boring. I prefer Level 2 for the sake of style over speed, but my OCD is killing me here to see that Tanto just one level away from completing the bar, lol.
@LeoKRogue5 ай бұрын
I believe they added a few new animations to Level 3 to make it a little more varied, which I appreciate. I think you should just go ahead and finish your tanto. :P It'll be fine.
@atlasprime61935 ай бұрын
@@LeoKRogue No, I already did it years ago. Probably should’ve written my comment in past tense. From what I saw, Level 3 focuses on practicality, hitting the fetal points to quickly eliminate your enemy. There’s no style or flair unlike in Level 2 animations. I hope someone make a mod that replace the Level 3 animation with Level 2, at least so that people who want to 100% the game can go back to that animation if they want to. You should check out some videos that show the differences between Level 2 and Level 3.
@LeoKRogue5 ай бұрын
I've seen them, I stayed on Level 2 for a really long time. I _like_ that the animations are a little more creative and still show Jin struggling a little, but the thing is, I've actually always loved the L3 anims because of what they mean. I don't need it to be super cool looking, I kind of love that it's so clean, fast, and 'boring.' To me, that's what's truly awesome-feeling, that he's so skilled and so good at what he does he simply delivers swift death, without fanfare or embellishment. I empathize with players who wish they could go back to LV2, so that's why I hope a mod does come around that makes reverting possible, it's just never been something I personally get caught up like other people do, because I think the LV3 ones are actually sick, especially after Director's Cut added a few new ones to that tier.

Can this game be played without HUD? Can one learn by heart the speed of detection so to still use it (white to yellow realistic lure is something one would surely like to dig if it's hyper realism bound). What is the difference between difficulties (more enemies? or more health pool - damage sponginess - I hate -? Or higher AI intelligence with flanking etc?) OMG!!! I love this thing of observing the opponents, this is just amazing design! (I see the first question could conflict with the freedom to use succesfully the bow.. unless one has the patience to learn that centering, or puts a sticker on screen LOL, or maybe the game has a quick optional switch to bow first person perspective when using the bow which makes the no HUD use much easier .. like I did with Far Cry Primal.. full no hud gameplay which is just amazing to achieve.. in fact one's arrows can't be always precise and this reinforces the realism feeling). I remember wanting to buy this game but being at full price and having a huge back log I never committed to get it. Thanks for these videos.. you dman! (this video is so easy to follow thanks from how you express yourself, I really find easy to do 2 things at the same time as watching the video consciously is not always easy with all the information that verbally come down on a new topic). (chain assassination reminds me AC Odyssey at least that's one of the things I remember in it, the only thing was that the weapons were glowing and other effects were forced and that ruined the feeling of the entire gameplay for me... where instead ancient greek could have been more respected). Ahahaha the smoke bomb that restores your health is so FUNNY feature! ahahahahahah, special incensus! I really find amazing the adaptability of the game offered by developers here: you can jump and then as in mid air you near a far away target assassinate or even throw a smoke bomb (let's say you don't reach it even after the whole parable of the jump.. so you can still assassinate later without detection.. .this is OUTSTANDING design, and done with simplicity and not damaging the realism and the entire flow... just fantastic!!) That shot at 9:47 ... how tense and epic, wow, now I understand after all I ve seen in this video why this game has been so acclaimed by several players who love quality.

Hey Leo's there's another use for the firecracker that I picked up after replaying AC Revelations. Basically you toss a firecracker and then you wait until everyone gathers nearby and then you toss a black powder bomb where you tossed that firecracker. The bomb will instantly kill them all! You can probably erase around 5+ enemies with this tactic. Although this strategy only works in the 1st and 2nd regions. After that the Mongols will be too heavily armored for the bomb to instantly kill them, but they will be left with a third of their health.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Did that on stream yesterday. ^__^ This video is not a deep dive, it's just an intro so I omitted several mechanica for simplicity. I don't talk about Fire Arrows, Explosive Arrows, Sticky Bombs, Black Powder Bombs, Ghost Stance, the Blowpipe etc.

I heard some complaints about the a.i being really dumb. Is that remedied by playing on hard?
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
In a way, yes. Hard makes being caught by them genuinely punishing, because they are very aggressive in combat, so it makes stealth meaningful by virtue of not wanting to fail it. It doesn't actually change their detection AI. The way it is, is actually just fine. It's predictable and manipulable, which is exactly what guards need to be in a high-quality stealth game. Allows for planning, strategy and intentionality, as per Mark Brown (Game Maker's Toolkit).

tried the game yesterday, loved that detection meter is fast without perks and armor bonuses, but only way i found stealth enjoyable is to be "underleveled" and even then it can be bare bones and nothing we haven't seen from far cry or newer ghost recon games, ai is hit or miss, ghost skills are extremely unbalanced it kinda caters to casual audience the most, i guess im kinda bored of decade with stealth games being player = god..on that note i actually enjoyed the shit out of combat and the immersion of the world, combat doesn't take itself serious so to say its more flashy then anything and that combined with the beauty of the open world is perfectly done.
@LeoKRogue4 жыл бұрын
Ghost of Tsushima is definitely firmly a predator-stealth game in which the player-character is incredibly powerful. Value is acquired not from innate challenge but from the wide and varied possibility space, IE in player-expression and how creative, fast-paced and flashy you can be when you push the system to its cracking point.
@kageotoshi4 жыл бұрын
@@LeoKRogue yeah totally agree, but it brings nothing new to the table, fast paced set ups have been there since fc3 and even ghost recon wildlands, i guess i expect something fresh, infiltration missions(they tried this with Kenji but it was bare bones) detailed spy missions etc..it can get repetitive for sure if you just mindlessly clear camps without those "player role play challenges" so to say..but this might subjective of me cause i hate this hollywood style of what shinobi is

It's a shame the highest tanto upgrade has the same three boring kill animations. I wish we could toggle level 2 animations or something.
