And this splinter group is exactly why the Asgard mass suicide move in SG1 never flew with me, they have splinters, time diation fields and we'd already seen Asgarrd scientists go off the grid before SGA was even a thing...

@luketurner314 5 ай бұрын
Maybe it was the High Counsel that made the decision in SG-1 and only those that agreed with, loyal to, in service to, etc. the High Counsel partook in the mass suicide. IIRC, it was Thor, Supreme Commander of the High Counsel, that told SG-1 (and the viewers) about the unsolvable problems with their cloning and the mass suicide decision. So, IIRC, it would make sense that it was a decision from the High Counsel, therefor it does not apply to splinter groups and other rogue Asgard

they tried to solve the genetic degradation problem, but in the process they managed to I guess create some sort of deadly illness that got all Asgards in Ida galaxy, slowly killing them in the process. they just decided to go out on their own terms and not let some disease kille them slowly.

I am amazed at how mismanaged the Lantian war against the Wraith was. Dial all gates in Pegasus (if Ba'al can do it, the Lantians can), disable all DHD's via a virus (If Terrans can do it, the Ancients can). Turn on Ataru device. War is over in a year. Turn back on gates.
@georgewashington7829
@georgewashington7829 5 ай бұрын
The Ataru device caused entire worlds to be destroyed when dialing or dialed they should have simply uploaded a "update"/virus that disabled the network THEN turned it on to make wrath unable to use the gates even with code work arounds while sparing the masses. Otherwise it's genocide. Also sure but it' fiction and if the ancients won the war the tv series wouldn't be a thing, plot holes will happen. The ancient could have won a number of ways but they had to fail for Stargate Atlantis for be a show.

I know Right! But writers will be writers. It also bothers me the Atlantis expedition didn't find more zpms sooner. So much story telling could have come out of a fully powered city.

Aparently the whole downfall of the lantians was cause they were stubborn to win their most cruel and bloodthirsty unreasonable battle ever to that day without hurt a single soul much less kill it, becuz remain as pacifist martyrs was more important to them than their own lives and lives of anyone else besides them.

My guess is the Atlanteans became obsessed with their own technology. They figure if something doesn't work, build something more advanced instead of changing how you use the technology.

the Attero device shows just how stupid the Ancients really were, the lose the gates for a short time would have been more than acceptable to rid the galaxy of the wraith. most humans didn't live near the gates anyway due to the risk the wraith posed. as such, by allowing the Attero to continue to operate would have had very little consequences on the grand scheme of things, then the Ancients could have continued to drop in and out using their own hyperspace that was unaffected by the Attero. it is frustrating that he ancients had a multitude of ways to deal with the wraith but simply didn't
@CastleTrime
@CastleTrime 5 ай бұрын
Frankly with the yield of a detonating gate I suspect even regions far away from the gate would suffer to the point it might be a planetary catastrophe. However that requires some one to dial the gate while the Attero device is active which is far from guaranteed. Especially if you spread word to as many civilisation as possible. or you know figure out a way to disable the gate network temporarily. Maybe you can argue Janus didn't think of that considering it was a private project but that just means he should have shared his idea to see if others had solutions. But yeah it is definitely frustrating to see these plot devices that realistically should have solve other threats and yet supposedly came from the same source. It the problem of Precursor tech being plot devices rather than belonging to an actual civilisation and used as such.

I just realized that a new Stargate series already has a built-in new villain. How crazy would it be to have Stargate Command, the Jaffa, and the Tok'ra now forced to face the remnant of what was once their greatest ally?
@KaiserMattTygore927
@KaiserMattTygore927 Ай бұрын
Literally had the same idea, that'd be an amazing concept.
@PBott-mvmuse
@PBott-mvmuse Ай бұрын
@KaiserMattTygore927 I might have a full concept in development. Imagine what might happen if a Trust operative onboard Atlantis sabotaged the cloak revealing the city to the entire world. Suddenly the world is turned upside down. It takes fifteen years for the stronger nations of the world to re-establish law and order. Governments in the smaller nations of the world have collapsed with the Trust stepping into the power vacuum. As peace in the "civilized" world is restored, a new IOA is formed Earth's Stargate is moved to a new base constructed on the surface of the Moon. Sam Carter or Rodney McKay take command with our new SG1 as the frontline team. The gate from Atlantis is moved to a neutral location controlled by this IOA, perhaps an island where an interplanetary port can be established. Meanwhile, the Lucian Alliance has become a powerhouse unto itself becoming one of the primary antagonists. The Atlantis Expedition is sent back to Pegasus with the goal of finding a facility where ZPMs were created. The Expedition findings Pegasus in complete disarray. The Wraith have been reduced to a fraction by their civil war and the inability to rapidly reproduce. The Genii have managed to seize control of nearly half the galaxy setting up a hegemony. And an uneasy truce has been established between them. Into that peace steps the new villain of Pegasus, the rogue Asgard who have discovered a means to stave off degradation in their cloning process that requires significant human DNA and the Wraith enzyme. Both factions are caught off guard by the power and force of these strange aliens' emergence from exile. Can the Expedition help the Wraith and the Genii stop the advance of these aliens, saving countless lives in the process. Even Destiny and the Ori Galaxy can be brought into the storyline as the team discovers legends of an Icarus planet in that galaxy. The race is on to find the lost world and discover Earth's long lost team. But wait, the armies of the Ori may not be as finished as once believed. In the years since Earth learned of the Stargate, Tomin has run into trouble as a faction has grown inside that galaxy who seek to use the weapons of the Ori to conquer the universe, not for the glory of the Ori but now for pure power. Bread Wright and the Stargate team have set up enough material for at least the additional series in the Stargate franchise, and we haven't even stepped into the possibility of teams exploring the former home galaxy of the Asgard, etc.

My head cannon has been that the craft and suits that we see these rogue Asgard in, in this episode, are Ancient; the rogue Asgard are just using them. Easily explains why the suits are on the Destiny and why the craft is able to pass through the city's shields (just like a Puddle Jumper)

There’s a series of books that continue the Atlantis timeline after the end of Season 5. In it, these rogue Asgard (called the Vanir) return in hopes of bringing an Ascended member of their race back to physical form. Their hope is to use her egg cells (combined with their own damaged genome) to regenerate the race.

I would like to believe that the "suicide" was just a final act as part of the Ragnarok act how humanity will deal with their legacy without them. Or what if they dialed an other 9 chevron address? "Vanir" Asgard should return anyway as the Asgard Protected Planets are not protected anymore.

They were also right as it turns out. It might be nice to see an alliance with earth from them in the future. Especially since earth clearly has access to asguard information they lack, for example everything gathered from that one body in stasis.

Othalla was the homeworld, Ida was the galaxy.
@GateWorldDotNet
@GateWorldDotNet 4 ай бұрын
Ida is given as the name of the galaxy where the colony of Othalla in "The Fifth Race" was located. Daniel later states in "New Order" that the Asgard home galaxy is Othalla (which, confusingly, also has a planet called Halla). This may be sloppy record-keeping by the writers, but the best conclusion for consistency is that Jack gated to a colony the Asgard had settled in another galaxy, and not their homeworld (which we learn in "Prometheus" was the planet Halla, before it was taken over by Replicators).
@dxdynamite47

@@GateWorldDotNet Not trying to be difficult, but wouldn't the best conclusion be that the Asgard are correct with naming their planet and galaxy, since it is theirs, and that Daniel simply got it wrong?
@GateWorldDotNet
@GateWorldDotNet 4 ай бұрын
@@dxdynamite47 That was my gut reaction when Daniel (confidently) delivered that line in Season 8. But we were never told that Jack gated to the Asgard homeworld (or home galaxy) in "The Fifth Race." So with evidence to the contrary I take it as speculative to conclude that Ida is their home, and not a second galaxy they settled that ended up in the Ancients' database.

It was always dumb to clone a clone, you should clone from one original source, that way any errors are going to not accumulate, and if a clone is not viable, you just make another copy of the original.
