This was no rogue wave....I live in Ventura and we were all warned of the dangerous high surf(which is still in effect through Saturday) and yet these guys were all lined up there just waiting to get hit by those waves. Then after the water and waves got crazy there was insane traffic from everyone wanting to "go see" the big waves. Ridiculous how people will willingly put themselves into danger so they can get their phones out and film some big waves.

We have them up here in Santa Cruz as well, plenty of warnings about these waves, yet people flock to the coast to see it first hand and have to be real close to witness it first hand...then they end up in hospital. During the big quake in Japan years ago and the Tsunami warning....dozens of people were on the beach waiting to see it. SMH....plenty of stupid all around.

Same as all of the people last year who were told not to go up to Big Bear Mountain and Lake Arrowhead because of the extreme snowfall, and then they were crying because they got stuck up there, trapped in the cabins for weeks 🙄

Surfer who lives north of Ventura in Santa Cruz. We’ve has 20 ft waves here. I’ve seen and heard so many sirens at our beaches having to rescue even experienced surfers, some of which I know. Not only are those waves unpredictable, the waters are dirty caused by runoff from the storms we’ve been having. The best way to wave watch is from higher ground using binoculars. You can never tell how far away is safe enough.

I can't believe that those who were hit apparently had no sense of danger at all, until it (much to their surprise, I guess, lol) knocked them over. It's like when you warn a little kid "Hey, don't do that! You're going to get hurt!", then they just smile at you and do it anyways, get hurt, are shocked and then cry about it, running to mamma.

See people standing on rocks close to ocean at Monterey as huge waves pounded the shores. That was not a rogue wave. A rogue wave is generally generated at sea as a function of water and wind reaction. It is unique in itself from other waves. Thus the term rogue wave.

Whatever you do, don't allow yourself to get swept out to sea in these conditions. Super hard to get back to shore and with water that cold, you'll soon die of hypothermia or drown. MANY people have died this way over the years. I'm an abalone diver in northern CA so I know a little bit about this.
