Speaking as a 310lb powerlifter with limited garage gym space remaining, I LOVE the Scout RH. Admittedly the feet on mine do not come up during use (being heavier, I may counterbalance it better). I also have no instability so far. The thick rubber feet actually grab the flooring of my gym (stall matts) very well. I HIGHLY recommend this for powerlifters on a budget and/or that have limited space.

OK I have to comment on the split-folding rack/cage system across the doorway!!! PURE GENIUS!! PLZ DO A VIDEO ON HOW YOU DID THIS!! I am a retired chiropractor and the number one reason to perform these weighted hypers are spinal rehabilitation to the point that these are wellness stretches for your lumbar spine and pelvis. DO NOT DO THESE IN THE CROSSFIT VIDEO METHOD WHERE YOU TRY TO MIMIC A FAN OF FAST MOVEMENTS. Do them slow and low. When your legs are at the bottom of the arc or even better when your legs start to move forward you have to learn to relax your lower back muscles and pelvis. This is a learned behavior and somewhat difficult unless you concentrate on relaxing the lumbar area as described. I guarantee you are not doing so. When I first figured this out and actually relaxed my lumbar musculature on the lowest downstroke position the traction on my lumbar spine was intense!! This is the best way to distract your lumbar spine. This a stretching technique.

The specs are--Maximum User Weight 300 lbs. --Maximum Swing Arm Load 176 lbs. Two 25 kg plates and two 20 kg plates total 198 lbs. That exceeded the spec of the max weight on the swing arm by 22 lbs. If someone with shorter legs were using the Scout with the same amount of weight the front legs might not raise at the high point of the range of motion. Remember that Archimedes guy? Leverage and levers? For $350?? The unit costs a little over $3 a pound. During the "pandemic panic" Olympic plates not in the very best of shape often sold for more per pound! Yes, weight could be added to the front legs --at your own risk. Simmons and Rogue might find a market for a unit that is between the Scout and the full size reverse hyperextensions --especially since the pandemic. Good demonstration showing the advantages, capability and limitations of the Scout!

I am very glad that you reviewed this because I was so curious as to it's actual performance when I first saw it. I've always wanted a reverse hyper but couldn't justify the price or space in my garage. This seems like the perfect compromise. I do not think the front-to-back rocking is enough to dissuade me (I could always drape something heavy, like a sandbag, over the crossbar), but I am slightly concerned about the short sleeves. I don't want to have to invest in iron plates just to use this device (I have Rogue Mil Spec plates in my garage). So I will have to see. I am also 6'3", but that thing looks pretty tall. Also, Dan Bailey did a video showing more uses for a reverse hyper than just reverse hypers. He showed how you could use it for leg curls, leg extensions, and even seated/bent over rows. It's more versatile than you might think!

This thing fucking crushes your ribs, organs, solar plexus, sternum, etc. I have no idea how people use this. I’ve had for a few days and done a few lighter weight sets every day just to test and get used to it. In order to get the traction you need your legs hanging freely , with about your hips and lower hanging just off the edge of the pad. The problem with that on this machine is that it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on your entire torso in general. It’s like having someone stand on your abs, ribs, chest, etc., and when you do the 2nd part of the motion, legs swinging down and under you, the force of your legs plus whatever weight you have loaded pull you even harder into the pad. I have no idea how people use these. I’m not sure if it is RH in general or just this one, but it is extremely uncomfortable to use.

Rip off in my opinion. This isn't manufactured by Rogue, (mfg in China) so I put right there with the Titan Economy H-PND at the exact same price (when u factor for the Rogue shipping costs and lack thereof with Titan) Titan offers a heavier, thicker steel frame and no balancing issues, and can accommodate more plate storage, however. What it all comes down to is how much your willing to sacrifice for portability I guess. I won't be going with this one though.

Thanks for the review Coop! 1) A question: Do you really need collars on the pegs? Since the pendulum is swinging perpendicular to the direction of the plates' movement on and off the pegs, perhaps collars aren't needed(?). 2) Re: the front-to-back rocking during use: I wonder if the plate pegs on the pendulum are intentionally shorter, to limit the number of plates that can be loaded and hence the amount of weight on the pegs, which would then prevent the machine from tipping backwards? 3) I think Coop's suggestion is great: adding a way to add plates on the FRONT to act as a counterweight would allow the machine to be safely loaded much heavier. Future versions of this model (and other similarly-designed models) should incorporate this idea!

Torn right now between the Scout and Titan's Economy. As of now, they're the same price, though Titan's looks to be a little more stable. I've got a garage gym with the equipment stored in one half, and I park in the other. I'd be able to fit either of them in the squat rack when I'm not lifting, but obviously a folded 85lb Scout would be easier to move around than dragging a 147lb Economy around. I wish there were more videos on the Economy to get a better idea at the comparisons. Mostly just see the regular Titan H-PND. I'll just have to keep checking around. If anyone is familiar with both, I'd appreciate some input. Thanks for the review.

@illestdomer20054 жыл бұрын
I think I got mine the same time as you, Coop. I didn't even think - as soon as I got the rapid fire notification, the order was placed. For reference, I tried putting 2 45lb echo bumpers on either side, and there was so little space for the spring clips (combined with the rocking maybe?) that one clip shot off. Since then, the max I have used is a 45 and 35 on each side which is still pretty darn easy, and I don't even squat your 900lb squat. That said, the rocking doesn't concern me. Now, if Rogue EVER sells those calibrated steel plates again (June 2022?), I will be buying the $2k package and can load this sucker up, and maybe with enough wait, the rocking will become concerning, but for traction, I think 160lbs is probably good enough for most people, and the biggest selling points are price and "compactability" as the footprint is a tall order for a (mostly) single use machine.
@ashwinkittur24804 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It's ALL about the portability (even more so than the lower price). For many users, the options are buy this or have no hyper at all given the footprint of the standalone versions (check out videos of people rocking those too if they use a lot of momentum). If you want to go heavier, you can eventually buy thinner steel plates, like you mentioned, and just use tie down straps to attach kettlebells or bumpers to the front end. In the meanwhile, you can go lighter, with more reps and more control - and still get significant benefit.

Thanks, Coop! I have the previous non-Rogue version of this you mentioned- called CorEvolution. It foldable too and holds standard plates rather than Oly plates. Found it a few yrs ago at the local used sporting goods store (or what I call TJ Maxx for guys!). I agree for average people this thing is more than enough- I especially like it for single leg work to hit those parts of the high hamstrings that are involved in sprinting more. Fun hack: put your Kbox next to it and get on the reverse hyper and rather than putting your ankles in the reverse hypers’ swinging arm put your legs in the kbox strap using the ankle straps and throw a kettlebell on the kbox so it doesnt lift off the ground and suddenly you have flywheel reverse hypers. :-)

I’d bet it’s solid up to 3 plates per side, even though the recommended max is lower. Just be ready to use calibrated or weight-cut plates if you need to go higher than 180 lbs….

cut the front legs or extend the back by id say an inch and it will stop rocking as you swing back and forth . As for the side to side movement , cant do anything about that , live with it .

Awesome review! Curious if you have ever tried leg extensions on a RH before?

Sold...whenever it's in stock again...I've been going back and forth about buying one but don't really have the space for the footprint of the RH-2. I disagree with the criticism about not giving "credit" to, or not done in collaboration with Westside. For the one that Titan makes, it looks like Westside's patent expired 6 or 7 years ago.

I have this exact one for over a year now. The only problem I have with it is that I only have big bumper plates at home and cant really fit anything more than 60kg on it. So use at end of session with high reps high sets for back health. Also sometimes do single leg.

What's your thoughts about the max weight this can hold with rubber Competition plates (not metal calibrated plates) compared to something like the Titan Economy PND??? Looks like the loadable sleeve length is only 5.25" compared to 10" on the Titan Economy PND and 10.5" on the Rogue Z Hyper. With a pair of 55's and 45's, the most you can load-up is 200#. I've never used a Reverse Hyper, but I've seen Louie Simmons recommend using 50% of your Back Squat...so if I squat high 300#'s, I'm already approaching the max this thing can hold without dropping money on additional plates. Do you think only being able to load up 200# would be a reason to pass and get another model with longer sleeves?

They can put a cross bar on the front legs with a peg in the center to accept weight on the front.

agree with others- finally a reverse hyper for my home gym. would have been nice to compare it to the next 1 or 2 cheapest ones. also, you're always so ...apologetic when reviewing cheap stuff. we all realize $350 can't compare to $700,..$1400 etc. The cheapest version and the most expensive version should always be mentioned in a review to provide the best context

It would be really easy to drill some holes in the legs and add some weight horns. Even just a 25 on each front leg would probably solve the rocking.

Can you do a review on those Rogue Stall Bars?!
@romansilva004 жыл бұрын
what about drilling a hole, the size of a gym pin so you can put like a couple disc in there also in the front legs?

Also won’t be able to attach bands on this one like you can with the other versions.

Hi! I am 6 foot 5 inches. Will this machine be big enough and comfortable for me?

This is a great piece of kit. I too wish it was manufactured in the great USA, but for my money and smaller home gym it’s perfect. The amount of rocking/lift on the front end seems very minor and not noteworthy, in my opinion. If they hadn’t sold out in what seemed like seconds I would have one now.

My gym never had a reverse hyper, though the regular hyper bench was one of my favorite pieces there. So I don't know how I'd like a reverse hyper, and if I were to buy a glute machine, I'd opt for a regular hyper bench, and likely a folding one like the Hoist Fitness HF-4263, since I could better predict how I'd like it. (That's about a $300 bench, not cheap, but the commercial Hyper that my gym has is made by Hoist.) That said, if I did ever consider a reverse hyper, I would definitely want a folding one like this, not some monster that would take up half my garage. The fact that this one rocks up off its front feet wouldn't be a deal killer, though I'd really prefer it didn't do that. If I had this machine, I'd be tempted to drop a modest-sized sandbag on one side of that front bar, if it would fit in there without interfering with the pendulum. By the way, here's a review I'd love to see: a comparison between the Free Motion Dual Cable Cross (there are several models that are all similar, with two arms that adjust up-and-down and side-to-side), which my gym (24 hour Fitness) has vs. the similarly functioning Tuff Stuff Proformance Plus machine that I always see Jeff Cavaliere displaying and using in his gym. I've always wondered how those two machines compare but can't find any reviews.

@8:38 maybe a 30 lb sandbag over that bar in the front to hold it down just like punching bag stand 🧐
@GarageGymReviews4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the problem is your plates will hit the sandbag as there isn't a ton of clearance between the plates and the crossbar.
@Fitforacting4 жыл бұрын
Garage Gym Reviews I didn’t even think about that. Thank you. Have you seen the videos were they use the henny attachment connected to the barbell and laying down on a tall play or box to do reverse hypers?

You compare Rogue and Westside to brands like Ford and Lincoln. I see it as a cool, special edition commodity. Compare to Marc Jacobs’ Heaven line. Either way, it’s an awesome product that clearly has a price tag that reflects its brand name and portability.
