Hi Paul, as always very interesting content. 👍Regarding the scene change I would rather use the Keyboard Switch Group function of the sample pad. Its quite handy to use (the buttons are big enough to hit when you are in a rush) and it would eliminate the necessity to use the scene remain function... and no second scene needs to be waisted too. 🙋

Great point! Easier to edit and save that way too, since it's all in one scene. You might lose the ability to switch with the buttons or pedal, but with the bigger keypad you might not need it. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Since getting my new Fantom 07 a week ago, your videos have been incredibly helpful. Thanks! So here is a beginning midi question (which I’m sure is obvious to hundreds of you): for “channel your energy”, how exactly did you connect the Roland to the Yamaha? Do you go Midi Out on the Roland to Midi In on the Yamaha? And do you need to go Midi Out on the Yamaha back to Midi In on the Roland? Again, thanks.

Congrats on the new keyboard! It's an amazing machine but it's a bit of a learning curve. Yes - I went from the MIDI out on the Roland to the MIDI in on the Yamaha. I did not run another cord the other way since I didn't need the Yamaha to do anything on the FANTOM.

Nice info! I have an rotary simulator (GSI Burn) that has unbalanced inputs and outputs. Would you please happen to know if using Balanced Cables from the Fantom 0 into and unbalanced port is ok to do?

Hi - I've used both stereo and mono cables in and out of the FANTOM Main and Sub outs, going to mixers, other devices, and amps, all with no problem at all. I'm sure either cable type would work fine going into your simulator. If you don't mind, please post back here how it works out for you, so other folks can find it later.

@@contemporarysynth Hi and thanks for you reply. I received for following from the manufacturer of the GSi Burn. I fear I will be losing some of the sound characteristics using unbalanced cables...I will check with Roland about that: Hello, the GSi Burn has unbalanced connections, you should use mono "TS" cables when connecting it to a balanced unit, or you should interconnect a passive DI unit that translates the balanced connection from your keybord to unbalanced, and back to balanced if needed. For short distances, just using normal mono jack cables would do the job. Best Regards, The GSi Team

Hi Paul, maybe you or someone else can help me with this problem...say I have a 4-bar loop with strings that I recorded with my two hands. When I am done recording those strings, I want to add modulation in real time on top of the strings pattern. The problem is, I can't hear what the modulation is doing to the strings as I'm moving the mod wheel 2 up and down while recording the second time. It's not until the loop plays around once through, then I can hear what I did with the modulation, but it's silent in real time record. But I want to be able to hear the modulation that I am recording while the strings are playing in real time with the mod wheel 2 from the start of the loop, so I know what the modulation is doing as I am recording it in, but I cannot figure out how to hear it while I'm using the modulation wheel with the first go in real time recording. It only plays what I have done with the mod wheel 2 after the loop plays through, and there is no way that I can tell what it is that I am doing, if I can't hear the modulation on the strings in real time on the first go. I hope this makes sense. I can do this on the Roland JD-Xi, so I don't know why I couldn't be able to do it on here somehow, and if I can't, this might be a deal breaker for me, because how in the world am I supposed to play strings and the modulation at the same time. It's impossible, and not being able to record and hear the modulation effect as the strings are playing, just makes no sense to me at all, it's basically useless. Can you or someone on here please help me figure this out. I have tried everything. I just can't believe that a flagship unit would be this hard to do something so simple as add modulation from the start of a loop on the second go, instead of having to do it on the first go. You should be able to hear what it is that you are modulating in real time, instead of it being silent, and not after the loop plays through. I don't mean to sound rude, and I know this is very long, but this is very discouraging for an expensive workstation like this, that's supposed to be the best that Roland has. If there's not a way to do this, I hate to say it, but it's going back. If anyone can help, it would be an absolute relief...SBN RESONATE

Hi - I was able to record a track then record over it while adjusting the mod wheel. I could hear the mod wheel effect while I was playing the second time, and I could still hear it in the recording afterwards. Two things to try: 1. Make sure your Rec Destination is set to Mix, so you're overdubbing when you record the second time. 2. Make sure the strings voice you picked actually has a noticeable modulation effect. I could really hear it on 0339: Strings Amp. You can also test it with the pitch bend lever. It should work the same way. Seems like it did for me. Good luck!

@@contemporarysynth Okay I'll send you an email soon. I'm just trying to figure out how to navigate the machine generally and assemble a scene for a live set, how to record my voice into the track. How to have separate effects on the voice vs the instrument (if that's even possible), how to upload samples into the sampler, what the "banks" are and just a hundred questions really. hahaha! I just have had a Casio workstation in the past and a microkorg that felt all a little more intuitive to me than this machine. It's just frustrating to navigate and I'm wondering if I sat down with someone who knows it well if it'd be easier to learn what I need to learn faster than scrolling through videos and so on, because the manual is so basic.
