Roland MC-707 Tutorial - Capturing PC Without A DAW

In this video, I show you how to route your desktop/laptop sound into your MC-707. Using this method, you can capture audio from any source on your computer. Excellent for background accompaniment or sampling!! Beware of your 60-second sampling limit per Project though. I like to use it to capture little vocal snippets from talks and shows.

@Bee Zee the drivers don't matter for connecting the 303. Just run the audio into one of the inputs and a midi cable from the 707 to the 303 and you should be good to go. Make sure to set the midi channel on the 707 for the track assigned to the 303 to the same channel as the 303

managed to get this to work. thanks. Q any way to setup the template to allow usb audio (youtube from laptop) on track 8 and other sources on the other channels? seems not possible.!

Maybe is more easily if use jack 3,5mm from computer or whatever to two jacks 6,3 mm(L/R) and sampling in the MC-707 with SHIFT+REC option

Pretty sure the intention of Generic is to use class compliant drivers so you can use it with iOS and Android but the fact that you can dial in changes in this menu is odd. With the vendor driver I just always adjust the volume going into the MC-707 from my Mac though

"professional advice" on youtube: try to dial in my kick at -10db and with bassline no more than -8db peak for mix, dial in rest of sounds from there. Full mix shouldn't more more than -6db peaking so that mastering has headroom to work with compression/mix/etc... best practices in studio good for 707?

i run my TR8S and MC707 into Octatrack, so i've been paying a LOT of attn to gain staging, too much signal into OT and it can sound like garbage, real quick...

I have the MX-1 and the MC707 and I want the DJ505 and this changes the way I was planning to integrate it, it would work for Seratos audio right?

I've connected MC-707, Sub37 and BS2 to DJ-808. Serato effects and samples add a powerful addition to any device. There are many exciting surprises when mix'n'match this gear combo. I believe that DJ 505 also lets you have fun ;)

So another question. I can’t seem to save or use the sample I got by using this method. I guess I need direction to what to do next. I can record it, and slice it but I can’t figure out how to save it or import it directly into a track 🤦🏻 Any advice would be great. Or direct me to another one of your tutorials…..I’m sure you’ve gone over it 🤣

If you want to load into a tone track, press the track sel button and then press enter in the sample edit screen. Same goes for drum tracks, but you have to tap a pad to load it to. I have a video on sampling, check it out

Cheers Unit E. Class compliant driver does allow (if you have the right combination of cables and adaptors) to record straight off a smartphone or synth USB audio output, though I haven't used it. If you're using the MC707 as a mixer it gives you 1 extra stereo input, that's my understanding of it. In theory you can connect a smartphone to the USB, set the input to PC on a track, then record the input to a looper device, which you can then change pitch and tempo, or reverse or stretch. Ideal for intros or soundtracks/ambient.

@@UnitE808 Yes, that's right. In theory you could connect another MC707 to an MC707's USB port and have a dozen inputs and 16 tracks! In 10 years, they'll be fighting wars to get an MC707, it's a terrific machine.

There shouldn't be any latency since it's coming directly from the computer. It's just like any other external instrument.

i just bought the Mc-707 yesterday. . it does NOT have the vendor setting even avilable to me toggled. . haveing trouble connecting to pc even with a 2.0 usb port. . Sd card came EMPTY , Extremely frustrating when things you show on this video dont even exist on mine.

Have you installed the driver for the 707 on your computer? What firmware are you on? 1.71 is the most up-to-date. Be sure to factory reset after the update. If you have not put anything on the SD card, it will be empty. Also, if it is a new SD card, it will need to be formatted on the 707. That is in Utility menu, which is shift and the knob assign button..

With Windows it works when you set it to Vendor as well. The only thing you need to do is to select MC-707 (PC) when you click on the loudspeaker icon in the task bar. Then the sound goes to PC In. So for once apparently something that is easier on the PC

That is odd. I was working with someone who had a windows PC and we couldn't get the sound to come out. It wasn't until he had the generic driver installed that that option popped up. Perhaps you had already installed the generic driver.

​@@UnitE808 in project settings under PC IN tab you can set the level when using vendor, mine was turned down with the initial template.... On my pc i use the PC out for my system sounds and use the mix out for my daw that way i can run both simultaneously and im using vendor. just gotta make sure the drivers are installed

@@FeelRealRacing you can see in the video that it bypasses the PC in volume when I use vendor. This is also for use without a DAW

@@UnitE808 it behaves differently on windows, it doesn't bypass the pc level and you have control over both a MIX and PC out simultaneously using vendor.. the MIX out will send audio straight to the mix out and headphones and the PC out can be controlled with the PC tab if that makes more sense.... by your vid it seems to be more limited on mac to just one or the other output running.
