Aloha!
In this video, I go over how to use the Looper track to play an imported sample at the project tempo, resample that, and chop it to the pads on a drum track. After running through it yourself a couple times, you'll find it's pretty easy to do. Keep an eye on your Project Setting, Sample Manager. It shows you the amount of space you have left in your project for samples. Don't overload your 707!! LOL!

I don't understand why some compplain about the sampler, I think it works just fine, easy to use, I use it a lot and love it. We all would like more sample time of course but for one hits it works just fine. Love all of your supporting vids, Brian :)

I think it comes down to users coming from a DAW environment, where most things are unlimited, or from an MPC device that is all sample based. A lot of people don't understand that a groovebox is trying to fit many functions into one box, so there will be reduced functionality of certain features. It would be too expensive of a device to make full feature set groovebox.

Thanks! wondering Is there a way to bounce a couple of channels into one using the looper/sampler?
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 2 ай бұрын
@@hypereall yes! Set the record source to mix out on the Input settings and pull the faders down on the tracks you do not want recorded. This will record the heard tracks into the looper track.

Does assigning chops from a looper track free up memory? If so this might be a good way to handle guitar looping 🤔
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 21 күн бұрын
@@DJCJ999 it does if you delete the looper clip when done. It takes up sample memory for a drum track but that is different than looper memory.

Thank you for the video. I have a question. When I record a long loop, and assign to a pad as you suggested, it fades out when I activate the pad its assigned to...do you know a work around for this?

i been spending hours every day, editing loops in Ableton and Audacity for EVENTUAL output to my Octatrac and MC707, because i want them to be as near perfect as possible, because i don't like screwing around with editing audio in any "samplers" just not fun, IMO, LoL...

Hi... UNIT:E Do you know how to reuse a sample I have recorded in the project? I mean, I enter the PROJECT menu, I go to SAMPLE and in the sample BANK appears what I have recorded by the external input, but I can't chopp it again, or assign it to any instrument in any channel. The sample is in the project but I can't use it again? Do you know how I could solve it. Thank you very much in advance ☺🤘 🏋

Hey, veery nice tutorials! Thank you for work. Can you tell how to copy a pad with all the settings and change its sample. When I copy with func+^ and paste, changing the sample changes both pads.

@@UnitE808 then why roland made this function of copying pads in drum tracks? in what situations can it be used?

@@BlackKeeper83 I would assume so you can have the same sample with different settings like coarse tuning or filter cutoff or a wet/dry version of a sample.

On the 101, in order to set different start and end points the sample must be loaded per pad, is this the same for the 707? It would be weird that this function is so drastically different between the two machines and definitely gimps the 101 for no reason. In my experience with the 101, if you change the start/end points of a pad copied, any pad that changes start/end points of that copied sample cover all of the pads. It's really frustrating if you're trying to use the least amount of memory, espeically since you cannot chop unused portions of any sample on the 101 (or the 707 when I had it a while back)
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 2 жыл бұрын
This is not the same for the 707. Using the method I described, you use 1 sample and load its parts to each pad. The 101 does not have the sample recorder feature
@heavysystemsinc.
@heavysystemsinc. 2 жыл бұрын
@@UnitE808 Well it can record from the looper which I use a lot, but the sample start/end is only unique for the pad it's originally loaded on, unfortunately. Every pad is treated as it's own sample, unless it's copied, then each pad is a 'soft duplicate' of the origin pad's sample start/end/loop points. It's really annoying and eats up sample space for chopping. I hate it, personally.
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 2 жыл бұрын
@Jeremy Landry you can record a sample by playing the looper track and capturing it as a sample? I don't mean create a looper clip.
@heavysystemsinc.
@heavysystemsinc. 2 жыл бұрын
@@UnitE808 ON the 101, you can record the 101's output into a looper then export the looper then load the export into either a tone or drum track pad. In the pad, if you copy anything there, the start/end is copied. For all 'child copies' of the original pad, changing the start/end is copied over. As I said, it's a really weird limit and eats sample memory since one cannot delete unused sample portions.
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 2 жыл бұрын
@Jeremy Landry I understand the copy part; it works the same way on the 707. If you import an exported file, you can't chop it like in the video. You have to use the sample recorder.

Are there no sample loop options once samples are on the pads or in trim mode? and is there a way to do startpoint editing/modulation for preformance?
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 2 жыл бұрын
No loop options once they are on a pad. If you want it to loop, just place multiple active steps at the correct loop length in the sequencer. No way to modulate start/end points for performance.

@@UnitE808 Thank you for the reply, the tip is valid for some applications, yet small loops to sustain sounds or to loop to an offbeat tempo/grid rhythm is what I am seeking. and just a follow up; how fast is the workflow when assigning multiple chops from a sample to pad layers? Can you direct a chop directly unto a pad layer from the trim mode? Thank you so much for your informative channel!
@UnitE808
@UnitE808 2 жыл бұрын
@@is.is.4684 if you are looking to loop as a sustain or as you mentioned, a tone track is what I would use. As far as chop loading to layers, it's not possible. It would be a multiple step process. You would have to export the chopped samples and load them individually to each layer of a pad. Only the first layer gets loaded in the method I show in this video.

@@UnitE808 A tone track has sample loop options?, interesting. And just to close the topic; can a loop track be used for small loops (xfade? Or auto Zero location) and is it possible to manually move the Looppoints on looptracks in realtime (or for that matter freely be in any edit mode) whilst resampling is active ? Thus internally resample any manual edits?
