Roland MC-707 Tutorial - RANDOM Partial Playback (Cyclic, too!!)

Aloha everyone!
In this video, I show you how to set your tone track up to play back the partials in random or cyclic order! This was a feature request for some time now, but I guess we had it all along!! Check this video out, then go make music!!

Killer tip. It’s only because of you that I’ve been able to get results from my MC-707. I was also shying away from all this “partials” stuff😂 but you’ve just made that make sense to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Now I know which side of KZbin to avoid if I want excuses for not making music, and I’ll try not to take advantage of it 😂

I wish they explained more in the manual it's like they did one draft for the first firmware version and then couldn't be bothered to update the manual. Also generally feels the work flow could have been perfected in places. But it's an amazingly deep device and mismarketed and under rated definitely not a simple groove box.

Indeed. It’s like manufactures rely on KZbinrs to explain their products deeper functionality or even basic functionality. A lot of them pay users like UNIT E. And rightfully so!

Very cool, was not aware of this functionality. Thanks for sharing! How do you pick the various external samples to incorporate into the overall integrated oscillators?

1 sample was internal, the other 3 were just samples that im sure can be found or created in the 707. I was just browsing my library card. I generally have a soundscape in mind, then spend time picking the first sample. The other samples are easier since I am going off the first one and choosing sounds that accompany and accentuate the first one. Also.... the fx loop sample that is used, was stupid luck. I picked a random bank and shift+scrolled. That is what It landed on. ..my general plan is always a core sound/sample and then adding harmonic or accompanying tones.

Could you do a tutorial on creating a multi-sampled tone-track? Seems as though it's possible to specify which sample gets played depending on key range, is that correct?

@@UnitE808 ya, I know and that’s what’s so frustrating! Lol Hey maybe you can help me out with two little quirks but I’m not sure It’s possible or... maybe I’m missing something. I tried everything: #1 When in edit step screen( where you see the stack of notes on a particular step), Is there a way to delete one of the notes on that step without using the pads? You would think you’d be able to delete it from the screen. The reason I ask is sometimes I’ll have two or three notes on a step but they’ll be several octaves apart so I have to search for them to delete them - it would seem far more utilitarian to scroll to the note on the step and press clear. #2 When in step advance record (like on a sh101j, I can’t seem to delete just one note on a step while remaining in step advanced record. I can delete a step whole still in step advanced record but if there’s two notes and I want to delete just one of them I have to get out of step advance record mode, delete the note, then go back into step record. I know these seem picky but it’s a workflow issue for me. Thanks

@@GrootsieTheDog as far as the deleting one note from a step, I thought that using the cursor to highlight the note in the screen and then holding clear and pressing C1 knob like a button clears the note. I could be wrong. #2. So, holding clear and tapping the steps takes you out of step recording?

@@UnitE808 #2 Yes, that works - you can delete a whole step while staying in step advance record BUT not individual notes. I’ll check out your suggestion for deleting notes when I get a chance. Thanks for the feedback.

If you setup the tone in Zenology Pro or on the 707, the 101 will play it. You cannot, however, set up the velocity ranges on the 101.

Hello! Looking at your deep knowledge of device, maybe you could help with my question. Or someone from community) I can't assign something like "velocity control reverb send". When try something like: 1 From "VELOCITY" to "REV" Depth +63 Nothing happens. While if I change "REV" to "PAN" the effect definitely heard. So, what I'm doing wrong? Is "REV" parameter in matrix is "send" reverb parameter, am I right? "DLY" doesnt work either, btw. p.s. both reverb and delay are on as global effects and can be heard when I use FX or C1-4 knobs

I dont think you can make the settings adjustments on the 101, but you can make the patch in zenology pro and import the patch. I will look more into this today.
