ROLAND SH-101 TUTORIAL AND OVERVIEW

This is an quick tour of the Roland SH-101 where I go over all the different knobs and sliders and explain how the synth works. The SH-101 is a vintage monophonic analog synthesizer from the 80s. It has only one oscillator, but it does have pulse width modulation and a sub-octave generator to thicken things up. It also has a built in sequencer and arpeggiator as well as CV/Gate ins and outs so you can integrate with your modular synth for example.

Hi there, I made a replica of the grip from stratch. Can you advise me what the resistance coming from the grip to the module is, please? I need to know the range from minium to maxium of the rotation of the knob. The bigger 3.5mm pin is for that purpose. Can you do me a favour and measure the risistance?

Oscillators don't sound like they used to! Everything is too detailed & harsh these days. As if Analogue has become what we hated about digital! :P It's almost like the CD/Vinyl argument. The old stuff sounds like it was pleasingly imperfect. I wish I had a 101! Do you have any plans of purchasing the new Roland SE 02 Boutique?

Naw, it looks too tiny for me. But who knows, maybe one day I'll change my mind. I also tend to prefer synths with keyboards.

That's a good point! :P I'm like 6'2" ...those little knobs may prove frustrating! As well as you play Keys, I'm surprised you don't have a Weighted MIDI Controller. ...in other news, it would be nice if KZbin notified me when people respond to my comments :[

( stupid KZbin! ) Whoa! ...it's a *GRAND!* My Williams Alegro feels wonderful & it was only like $200US after shipping! The only complaint I even have is the lack of Pitch/Mod Wheel. I'm not the Key Player you are though. I'm a Percussionist. Do you notice a difference worth the price ...between a Weighted $200 Keyboard vs. an expensive one like the A 88?

Great video, and I like the 'Nightmare Acid Picnic' thing you have going on, visually. One thing I love to do is whack the LFO to max and the Filter mod to max, and bring it in using the button on the grip (because it's an old machine, and the bender seems like it was *designed* to break easily). Sweet FM.
