Hey on top of my head I dont see a safe option for doing this AND I def would advise to use a different device for backing tracks e.g. just using an iPad for backing tracks

Hey - as you have to set the "Play Type" to LOOP ("3") all samples/layers will loop - so the answer would be "no". What you could try is pre-edit the loop .wav beforehand to long 'looped' wav and then just trigger this as a one shot. Still I wouldn't suggest this as a stable solution as velocity&volume issues might accure plus its most likely that triggering the 'loop' wav on/off by accident could happen here. So prob having the loop hosted somewhere else would make more sense.

How do you choose which note it will trigger? It should have free a dial so you can pan it until you meet the midi note you want to trigger (B2,C3,C#3,D3 etc). (unless it triggers always C3???)...

Do you know if there is a way to have an audio file play at maximum volume all the time regardless of the velocity of your hit? It’s not really ideal to have the track play at different volumes everytime you hit start… I haven’t found the way through the Roland tutorials or manual.

This is a great video, thank you! Question from a noob - is this the kind of product I could use to accompany a live acoustic performance to run one loop over the top of another (say for a chorus) and be able to activate this fairly easily using the sensitivity controls on the pad? Can the three samples in each of the 12 channels play at the same time?

Hey Ruth, I wouldn't suggest this device for running loops, especially not for multiple loops. A BOSS RC 505 would be more suitable for things like that or some iPad apps. IF you want to go PC/MAC then I would suggest Ableton Live.

hey guys, i´m a bit late, but i got a question : can i put a stereofile into the click-folder? i´m asking because i´d like to put a stereo file into the clicktrack-folder with a mono backing track panned hard left and the click hard right. that way one could have 4 seperate mono tracks playing.... couldn´t find an answer anywhere

Interesting idea. Technically this could work. I can't check if this works atm but maybe someone else reading this would b up for it and report back here? Generally I prefer using Ableton Live for playback and drum sound triggering as this gives me nearly unlimited control and much deeper edit options e.g. for multi-layered sounds triggered by velocity

@@abletondrummer i have been using my macbook for these things for 10 years, but the kind of shows i play... i don´t like taking my computer with me all the time. makes me uneasy on stage, that thing is too valuable and i´m too dependent on it to have it fucked up or stolen in a punk cellar in eastern europe. i´d prefer a simple hardware solution with 4 tracks :)

Hi! Great video! Can you (or anyone) please share an advice if it is possible to assign the midi output signal to an exact note? If I use SPD as a midi control for a VST, it plays (records midi signal) as C3 for example, but I need F2. Thank you!

Hey - I can't find anything about that in the manual, so I would say it is not possible.

BUT if you use a computer you could run the MIDI through a MIDI app (e.g. if you are on MacOS you could run MidiPipe) and just pitch this C3 to a F2 before it get sends to the VST.

Hi dude thanks for your help. I have a problem my spd one wav. Works sometimes and other times.no sound I wonder what I'm doing wrong it's like I visit different clubs and it works then some clubs no sound any ideas ?

Hm hard to say. I remember someone had a similar issue and it was due to not hitting hard enough but I guess you have tried hitting with different velocities?

Yep - as the ONE WAV PAD is especially designed for putting your own samples/loops/backing tracks on there I m not expecting people to buy it because they are interested in getting the example sounds Roland put on there. This is not what this device is about.

hi i have a question .. lets say i layer 2 or 3 tracks for different velocities , but lets i want the hard one to be a long backing track and i want the other 2 to be lets kick and snare sound , can i use them together or will it switch between each layer as i change velocities ?

Hey - in theory this is do-able and would be the "LAYER TYPE" number 2 (called "VELO SW") - so in this layer type you can have 3 samples apply to 3 different velocity ranges without muting each other when played BUT in practise I wouldn't advice you to have a backing track plus 2 sounds being layered on one pad / device - there would be still the risk of hitting to low/to high at a gig and then re-triggering the backing track by accident... - Have you tried this in practise?

@@abletondrummer hey thanks for getting back ! so yes ive tried it and i managed to make it work .. by sepearting the velocies far away from each other .. but there is an issue with roland tho ! so i put a long drone for about 10 min and 2 different samples .. if i start the long one its fine and when i play a bit around with the other 2 samples on top of it they work fine .. but if i i play very fast it sort of crashes and the long drone would stop ! i think it might be an overload more than anything .. but it works fine unless u really play a lot of hits at once

I have been taking your SPD Wav course. Really great that you did this. Question: Your loop in memory location 11 does not play. I have found my own loops do not play either. I'm using the naming convention xxx_l.wav. What could be the problem?

Thx to Dennis (watch comments below) we know the answer know: HIT IT HARD as the threshold is set quite high for tunes(phrase alt) and loops.

Yes. MIDI connection works simultaneously with the internal sounds triggering mode. BUT you are only sending one MIDI NOTE (/w different velocity values) - so the question would be, what kind of control of the strobe you want to archive and what software (or hardware) you are planning to use?

Initially, I plan to run Ableton and Freestyler DMX software on my laptop then route the MIDI signal to DMXKing ultraDMX RDM Pro then daisy chain to 2 Cameo Thunder Wash 100 W. So I'd be programming the lights to MIDI notes and then convert it to DMX so the click/backing/lights are all in sync. Is it possible? It would be great because if it can, that means I don't have to bring a laptop and portable mixer with me on each and every gig.

Yep - if you operate with one preset for one song in Freestyler DMX (I don't know the program and can't say if thats an option) and if you just can switch to the next 'song-preset' with one incoming MIDI note and you will just need that for one whole song then this option should work

I bought the SPD one after watching this great video. I uploaded my pieces with the _m suffix but the unit is almost unusable. It triggers itself with the slightest vibration or loud noise, even a footstep. So if it's not playing, it suddenly starts playing, and if its playing, it suddenly returns to the start of the track. I've messed with the Threshold and Sensitivity knobs to no avail. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong...?? Thanks

Hey - that doesn't sound good. Threshold would have been the thing I would have pointed you to to set very (very) high but as it sounds that you have tried that already it sounds like this might be a broken unit?

Have you tried different USB cables? The manual says that you shouldn't use USB cables which are ment for charging only. Do you get the MIDI connection when holding down the [ALL SOUND OFF] button when connecting or always?
