Does Roland have an official setup video? I've done a few eKits in the past so I really only needed like the 1st half of your video, but it's a shame if they don't. You killed it man, so much info. Fantastic video, Nick! Even though I have a TD-17 KVX2 kit - and your video on the setup on that model was extremely helpful since I had never owned drums of any sort - watching this video still gave me knowledge since a lot of the parts are shared between the models. As well, watching you setup the TD-07 gave me flashbacks on how I really didn't like the MDS-COMPACT rack and upgraded mine almost immediately after it being delivered to a MDS-STANDARD2! It's a much better rack and I am even thinking of going to a MDS-GRAND 2, but that will be a far off purchase. Anyway, thanks again for making and sharing your drum videos!

Really appreciate the kind words and time you took to check out the vids, @michaelk8642 ! I don't think I've setup anything but the MDS-Compact, though I'll have to check out the standard2 or the grand2 for sure. I find if I set the kit up to my comfort, the hi-hat gets in the way of the module - as if the compact footprint isn't wide enough...

Thanks for the vid. Just set my new kit today and it feels amazing. Just to note on your comment about the bass drum beater - I think that refers to mesh bass drums which are on the higher end models. A felt beater on a rubber pad shouldn't affect this kit.

Inside the mount bracket for the snare, there should be a metal ring that the wing nut presses against. Make sure the snare L arm is is in the middle of the metal ring, that way when you tighten the wing nut it holds the snare in place. Keep me posted on how it turns out!

Really great video, I would have had a hard time setting up my drum kit without you and this made into quite a satisfying process! I remember you mentioned something about needing to use a plastic bass pedal rather than a felt one because the felt will deteriorate the kick trigger. Is that really true and which one should I buy to make it last as long as possible? I've read I can use any kick pedal, so I ordered a cheap one which got randomly recommended on the shop's site and it's mesh. I'm planning to get a double bass pedal from home, but it has mesh heads too and the other side of them is hard plastic but I think it is not really meant for playing as it is too hard for that. Which heads should I look for and is the kick trigger susceptible to damage? I lack sensitivity when playing with the double bass pedal and this is my first electronic drum kit and I would really like it to last for a few years. . .
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic 7 ай бұрын
Great to hear this helped, @matejblaha4659 ! As for the felt beater, that's for the kick tower that some roland kits have - it has a mesh trigger pad. The kit in this video is a rubber trigger, so it should be okay. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi, thanks for the video! I'm new to electronic drums but an experienced drummer and a bit confised of what speakers to use. I will be using headphones on occasion but would like to use a nice speaker to share the sounds with the ppl in the room. 1) I have a thought maybe I can hook it up to my tv speakers that has a subwoofer too so i get that nice bass sound? Or do I need to buy an amp/monitor i think they're called? 2) Also does the bluetooth work so I can use bluetooth headphones to listen to it or is it just for having audio streamed ontop of the sounds the drums make? Thank you!
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Headphones will work fine, and you could possibly connect to your TVs sound system. Just make sure the output volume on the kit isn’t too high. Another option is a keyboard amp or the Roland V Drums monitor - amzn.to/3CcK1IS As for Bluetooth, I think it’s just Bluetooth external devices to the kit for audio playback.

Should'n be the bass drum trigger mounted in the H frame first of all? That would save you from later turning the whole structure upside down...Just my opinion. And as far as I know and regarding rack and pads, TD-07 and TD1-DMK are identical...except for the module, is that correct? Thanks for this wonderful video.

Hi Nick! Thanks for suggesting how to mount my DW 5000 kick pedal (previously) for my Roland TD-07 kit. My question is “How” to connect the drum Module directly to mixer (Yamaha MG 12usb) and then out of mixer to a monitor next to the kit (monitor out). I have a Peavy KB 2 to use as my monitor. Do I need a DI Box at any point? I have searched KZbin for videos on this topic…nothing there. I have only been playing at gigs with just the Peavy KB 2 amp but it gets lost behind the guitars that run through the PA. Please Help! Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic 6 ай бұрын
Hey @webingerphoto49 - great to hear from you, and glad you got your pedal hooked up! For this question, you could run an 1/8" to 1/4" cable from the "Output/Phones" connection on the module to one of the channels on the Yamaha MG 12usb mixer. You then could take one of the stereo outputs from the mixer (L channel if you're only using 1) and run that to the monitor next to the kit. Another option - get a headphone splitter for the "Output/Phones" connection on the module, and run 2 1/8" to 1/4" cables. 1 cable would go to a channel on the Yamaha MG 12usb, and the other to the Peavy KB2 you use as a monitor. Here are links to everything you would need Headphone Splitter - amzn.to/4c2bKdO 1/8" to 1/4" cable - amzn.to/4bF5jNY (made in 4ft, 12ft, and 30ft options)

Thanks for this ... got mine shipping in Monday and this is going to make things so much faster than looking at a manual. 👍🏻 Do you have any tutorials in plugging into a DAW to get the Roland's brain sounds specifically? I've got Logic and it's got the producer kits, .. it looks like plug and play when it comes to that. Seems to be a bit more convoluted if you want to set up a midi instrument track just to receive the packaged Roland sounds. Am I wrong about this?
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic Жыл бұрын
Great to hear! I don't have any yet, but not a bad idea to create. Closest plug n play is to connect the kit to your computer via USB, although that has you use the sounds in your DAW. I think that's a great thing, especially if you already own sample packs
@Fiveash-Art
@Fiveash-Art Жыл бұрын
@@NickCostaMusic Yeah I was planning on doing that ... I just wish there was some option with a Roland plug-in or app that would come with these drums that could translate the interface's stock sounds. With all the tech going this direction it seems a little weird that this wouldn't be an automatic option. It's really just a minor gripe ... Revisiting this tonight .. My stuff is sitting here unboxed and I'm psyching myself up to get started. .. Hoping this a game changer because I'm sick of manually programming midi and auditioning the busy ass fills Logic's Drummer program uses. 😂 Logic has a lot of great kits and options though.
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic Жыл бұрын
The TD-07 module does transfer audio and midi via USB, according to Roland's site. Not sure if that means it records as an audio file to your DAW or not, but that sounds like you'd be able to use the Roland sounds
@Fiveash-Art
@Fiveash-Art Жыл бұрын
@@NickCostaMusic What I've seen so far the only way to get those stock Roland sounds is to do it through your interface and it records as audio. No option for those samples to midi .. but like you said, if you go the usb route you can use your own drum plug-ins, ez drummer, logic's drummer etc. I'll probably screw around with both. I'd definitely like to see you do a tutorial about this. Would be really cool. 👍🏻

If you wanted to play just one rack tom and one floor tom, and use the third tom pad as a secondary snare, mounted to the left of your hi-hat, it would probably be in the way of the module. But with the cabling being snaked together, is it at all possible to move the module?
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic 2 жыл бұрын
You should be able to, really depends if the cables are long enough. For your setup, I'd recommend moving tom 1 to the aux snare position. You're also going to need to move one of the brackets and L arms to the left curved bar to mount the aux snare, or if you have a tom l arm you could aways attach that to the far left leg. After you figure out which route to take, whatever cable you plug into the pad (like T1) make a note so you can change that sound source to an additional snare.

Yep! The pads with a bell zone have 2 inputs, 1 for the edge and bow, the other for the bell. Plug in the extra cable from the wiring harness, program it for a bell sound, and you’re set.

Thanks a lot @nick for this video. Will it be possible for you to demonstrate a right way to play the high hat pedal? How much pressure to put and where to put? It will be great if you can record a video tutorial of best practices and how it sounds. Thanks a ton and appreciate your help.

I can try, Abhishek - although this is user preference. Since the pedal sits on the floor, place it in a spot that allows you to have your knee over your ankle, tracking towards your toes. You should be able to press down on the pedal and hear a closed hi hat when you hit the trigger pad

@@NickCostaMusic Thanks for your response Nick. I find the TD 07 high hat pedal not as responsive to the press. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or it is the way it is. I also don’t have an objective comparison of how it should sound on an acoustic high hat. I will go to a music store and try it out sometime soon. Thanks again.

Yeah, it definitely feels completely different than a standard hi-hat, or the higher end Roland kits. One thing you can do is adjust the sensitivity of it in the TD-07 module. When you're in the sensitivity settings, step on the hi-hat, and then adjust sensitivity using the buttons on the module. That might help a bit!

Hi, thank you for this video. It is extremely helpful. Planning to buy this kit very soon. I have a couple of questions. 1. I'm a lefty, how can I set it up in a left handed way? Turn the clamp on the H the other way right? 2. is it possible to set up one rack Tom and 2 floors? 3. How to connect more cymbals? Will lemon cymbal work?
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sid - it’s a great option for an E-Kit! To answer your questions: 1) you can set it up for your preferred config. By flipping the rack - meaning things setup on the left side (drummer’s perspective) would be setup on the right, and vice-versa for the left side. If you follow the video and setup anything from the right side on the left side, and the left side on the right side, you’ll be good to go. 2) You sure can. Add the 2nd rack Tom clamp to the curved bar where your floor Tom’s would be. Once the kit is setup, you can go into the brain module to change the sound of the pad to another floor Tom. 3) You can attach another cymbal using the additional “CR2” cable that’s part of the wiring harness. I know that Roland cymbals will work, not sure of any other brand.

@@NickCostaMusic One last question if you don't mind. this will be my first ekit, Buying this to get back into serious practice since it'll be quieter than acoustic.. Are the pads big enough and the rack structure conducive to hard playing? I mostly play fast punk rock (Green Day, blink 182). Will I feel restricted playing this kit in any way? The more advanced Roland kits are too expensive in my country, this is only thing I can buy
@NickCostaMusic

The biggest adjustment will be the the size of the drums. The Tom pads are 6”, and the snare is 8”. At some point you might want to consider upgrading to the higher model cymbal pads, but this setup will work.

Hi and thanks for a good video :-) What is the black rubber ring on the mounting L-part under the snare good for? Does it support / damp snare unit vibration? - or? The rubber ring is not that tight/fixed and is movable depending on the snare hight position and will maybe over time move downwards and be of no use ?
@NickCostaMusic
@NickCostaMusic 2 жыл бұрын
That rubber ring can be moved depending on snare height. Don’t know exactly what it’s for, although I’d say it’s for additional support. The way it’s designed, I don’t see it wearing out and not staying in place.
@NamuSG
@NamuSG Жыл бұрын
This ring is like a “memory indicator”. It’s only function is to indicate the exact height you fixed your snare on the mounting L-part. That way, whenever you remove the snare, you still have an indication that shows the exact height your snare had before it was removed.

If you’re setting up as a left handed kit - swap the curved bars and legs from this video - that will have the lower leg on the left side, and have the correct amount of clamps on each side. Swap the kick pad to the left post of the H frame, though you might need to flip upside down so it sits the same way as it does on the right side. If you’re playing a double kick pedal, both beaters should strike the pad

@crazybaby7725 there are 2 cables for HH - the one attached to the footpedal of your kit would connect to the controller that sits on the HH stand perch of the VH-10 or VH11 setup.
