You really know what you're doing. You have a very good understanding of how electronic drums work, and that's why you always have the best sounding e-kits ! Straight out of the box, e-drums are always to sensitive, meaning you will get the "loudest hit" sound even if you only hit with medium force. That'S why they sound fake and that kills the dynamic range. You trick of setting the sensitivity a little lower works really well to increase dynamic range feeling of an e-drum. The "hardest hit" should really happen only when you hit the hardest, and you got that correct ! I've seen you're new vids with the Strike kit. I never thought I would love an Alesis drum that much ! Keep up the good work !

Perfect vid!!! i just picked up a 2nd hand TD11KV + extra CY12. Thanks for taking the time to explain how you arrived at a sound you like, especially the pad volumes/sensitivity/velocity curves side of the tuning. My module came with the Vexpression Apex kit pack installed. The kits tones sound good but IMO still need that same “balancing” the stock kits do. Your vid explains exactly the knowledge iv been searching for. Youdaman

Could you please share your live kit's tune and muffling settings for all toms, snare and kick? Also do you set all your pads sensitivity to 6? or just the snare? Great video, thanks for sharing. Thanks again.

Great review. Really shows the better things this module is capable of. Question-I own this as well and really like the kick you programmed on the live kit; do you remember the instrument settings you used for it? Also, you mention using studio reverb, but which wall type did you go with? I’ve found the studio reverb causes some undesirable high frequency reflections with the Solid Maple K that I don’t hear with yours. thanks

Great Video....I used your setting you have suggested Live, what i found was the snare was not very cutting in the mix, but the feel was great than the stock kits. Can you suggest any settings to up the snare sound, the snare seems to get lost with the rest of the band. Would it be the EQ? Also do eq to your own mixer before going to the desk? thanks for your tips
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
peter pelluet the snare never got lost for me. Maybe look into adjusting the sensitivity and curve? Not sure what pad you have but make sure a regular hit matches the "preview" level and sound. Outside of that make sure there isn't too much reverb on. After all that just adjust the eq on the mixer going to the PA to taste. The more high db push you do will boost the cymbals though so keep that in mind. I usually boost the high 2-4db and cut the low 2-4db but again that's just for my PA.
@pelletmobile2
@pelletmobile2 7 жыл бұрын
SiREN2173 thank you, the band did say they thought the cymbals were a little low..but I wasn't using a mixer out to the desk. Which is what I will do next time, may be that is part of the problem. Still great, thanks for the tips..might try that Alexis 12" snare to, I know what you mean when you hit the middle of the Roland pads. :)

I'm having trouble finding clamps that would fit around the chrome plated rack that have a hole to hold a cymbal arms? please let me know - Where you got them? What they're called? How much they cost? Pretty please 😁 Also I had to buy a new snare stand to replace the dm10X snare stand it came with..wth? lol hahaha Because the snare stand it came with is for a midget way too low.. lol

How are you recording the TD-11 to a multitrack session on your D.A.W.? It only has a stereo out and there is no driver to send each instrument to its own MIDI channel.
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't send multi track. Only as you said, stereo output to show what the module can do on it's own. If you're using a DAW tho, I would highly suggest to just run a midi cable or USB and use a drum vst. Then you'll be able to get multi tracks etc and much better sounds. Steven Slate Drums 5.5 or EzDrummer3 are great affordable ones for mix ready drums. Slate also has a free version.

Peter Griffin I used 3 splitters from www.drumsplitters.com which I now am selling on Reverb because I can't use them with my TD25. They're normally $20each but I'm selling 3 of them for $12 each. reverb.com/item/4710806-electronic-drum-splitter Let me know if you're interested in them and I'll change the ad for however many you want so it's only one $3 shipping cost. If you check out my "How to expand your electronic kit for cheap" I explain how to use them

SiREN2173 - Cool copy.. I just thought that splitter wires wouldn't work on the td11??.. Because they won't work on my td25??. But you're saying they will work with a td11?? So td11 Toms are duel zones? Shoot I have a td25 module, but I still have a older Roland module maybe it would work? Are you on Ebay? I could buy them on my Ebay account if you're on ebay?..
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Griffin they work with all modules that allow you to put two sounds per pad which for Roland only excludes the TD25 and TD4 unfortunately. I only have then up on Reverb but if you make an account it takes PayPal or credit card no problem.
@petergriffinelectricdrums4164
@petergriffinelectricdrums4164 7 жыл бұрын
SiREN2173 - Also, lol hahaha sorry another question? In this video are you using Alesis DM10X pads??.. Or what pads are these in this particular video? Because I'm going to be using Huge 11inch Simmons rubber pads, But if in this video your using Alesis DM10X pads it looks like they actually work well??
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Griffin yes the Alesis pads work flawlessly with Roland modules. The drum pads I prefer actually especially for the snare and the cymbals besides the hi hat work perfectly. That being said even the hi hat cymbal can be used just as a single zone crash or for anything else besides the hi hat because you'll want a dual zone cymbal for the hi hat. In this video I'm using one 12" and 2 10" Alesis mesh pads and a Roland PD-125 for the snare but I'm selling two of the 12" pads wether it's the two 12" Alesis Mesh pads or one of those and the Roland PD-125 and keeping one for the snare. I only have one 12" Alesis pad up for sale but if you are interested in both or anything let me know and we can make a deal for two. In any case here are the ads and knock $20 off what I have them at. reverb.com/item/4827259-alesis-12-mesh-pad reverb.com/item/4827197-roland-pd-125

LoL hahaha 😁 OMG right??. lol I know it sounds crazy but here me out. After listening to the "Recording kit you made with the Td11 - Dude you're a Drum God! lol It's exactly all I need - Your recording kit on this video is so close to my td25 ( For what I play) I thought to myself - Well shit, I could just setup a td11 just like you did and sell my td25 module and make back $900bucks! I'll still have a good huge sounding kit and have some dough $$ lol hahaha 😁 But seriously before I pull the trigger on my Grand-Idea I was wondering if you think I could create that Huge Def Leppard Snare with Big Gated Reverb on the td11??
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Griffin haha ya man I did really like that recording kit patch! As for a similar sounding kit as the one I did on the 25, you can definitely get close but the hi hat won't be because there's only one hi hat in the TD11. That's a minor detail though.
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Griffin the toms won't be the same either. The 25 just has so much more options to be able to really nail the sound you want. That being said I can show you how to adjust the reverb similarly to get the same feel like the kit I did on the 25. I think probably using the recording kit from this video will be a good start but with the reverb adjustments
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Griffin as for the swoosh effect, you can't import samples to the 25 or the 11. Both modules have a reverse cymbal sound though. To get the sound from the track you'll need to run it from a back track. It's easy to make backtracks but maybe a little intimidating if you're not comfortable recording and using a DAW. To make the sound all you do is record one hit with the snare that you will be using with the reverb at a good level and good decay then once recorded select and reverse the selected section. I can walk you through it more in detail if you decide to do that.

CelluloidHoax oh well ya this will only work with the td11 if you're talking about the instruments assigned to each pad because the td11 is the only one with those instruments. The principle of cymbal volume and sensitivity adjustment can be applied to any module if you are trying to fit into the mix good.

drummerman79 with drum splitters from www.drumsplitters.com you can split the stereo cables going to the toms to add extra cymbals. In the module you just make sure "link" is unhighlighted and you can select a different sound for the rim zone of the toms. You will also want to adjust trigger sensitivity and curve of course to work best with whichever cymbal

""PLEASE HELP" Do you remember how to get to the section on the td11 to mess with the Volume control of each pad? Like turning down the Cymbals? With the td15 I haven't figured out how to get to the place where it will allow me to Choose volume levels? Nor Curve? When I'm in the sections to tweak each drum sound it only gives me like if I'm trying to change my snare it has - 1-Choose a different snare. 2-Muffling settings 3-tuning 4 - snare buzz 5-Color That's it! I haven't figured out how to add "EFFECTS" to a Snare or Tom??. I've just have had to choose a snare or Tom out of whatever it already has and I have to be happy with it lol hahaha 😁 I mean I can tune it, I can change the muffled sound, add snare buzz - But can't find where I can add heavy Gated sound, haven't found where I can add or decrease reverb, nor add any other effects to a Tom or snare? Is there a section that I'm missing somewhere?
@AtTheSourceStudios
@AtTheSourceStudios 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Griffin the curve should be under options, pad settings if I remember correctly. The instrument volume adjustment is moved from where it is with the td11. If there's a section called mixer it might be there. To adjust individual reverb levels per instrument you go under the ambience tab and if you look at the bottom of the screen there should be a highlighted option above the menu button where you can press the menu button and you'll see a mixer to where you can adjust the reverb

Calin Chin there is a way to adjust individual levels. Try to see if there's any buttons highlighted/available to press when you're in the fx menu you're looking at. legitMASKA if you are getting another module anyways might as well just get a Roland and link via aux in/phones out. Would be easier than midi.
