I'm really looking forward to using your kits with my td27kv2 that arrives this week! Is it possible to create custom user kits with the sounds provided in your kit? As in select an individual instrument sound from one of your kits? For example mix and match with your different kits and the stock ones?

Sorry for the late reply if you've already worked this out. You won't be able to just pick my sounds out of the instrument list the same way you can with the internal sounds. For any kits that I've added samples to, they're layered with internal sounds so you'd have to get the settings right on both the main and sub instrument layers. Picking the samples on their own as the main instrument won't give you the same results. I also layer a lot of sounds together even when I've not added samples, so it's a similar situation there. Fortunately there is a "Pad Copy" function in the copy menu that lets you copy pads between kits. You can check out this video for more details - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5OXl5SNeZJ3jbs

I love your custom kits. I did have one issue. My user kits started in the 50s. I noticed your video said they started at 66. This confused me and I wondered why I was missing so many factory kits from Roland. It turns out you have to do a factory reset after updating to the newest version. I realize this is an issue with Roland but you might want to mention that on your website. Before I knew this I already added your kits and I needed to add them again after I did a reset. If it wasn't for this video I wouldn't have even known those extra kits existed. Thanks!

Hi Benjamin. Thank you, I'm glad you like the kits! I do include a note in with the packs that explains that the modules will need updating and to refer to the Roland instructions for this. The Roland instructions explain in them that you should both perform a backup before updating and do a factory reset afterwards. If you didn't know the factory reset needed to be done, you might have missed that as part of the Roland instructions. I typically refrain from explaining the procedure for the update myself as it isn't a process I have any control over so wouldn't wish to take any liability for someone making any mistakes in the update procedure and claiming I told them the wrong method (I've seen this happen to others before, unfortunately). It's a difficult balancing act working out exactly which part of each process is my responsibility to explain and I'm still quite new to this side of things so I tend to stick to the side of caution when it comes to aspects outside of my control like software updates. Hope you understand.

Please help me. How can I load kits pass 100? My TD-27 module kit count cannot go pass 100. I don't know what to do, I have 25 more kits that I need to load, and it looks like I might have to delete some kits to stay at the 100 count.

Hi. There are only 100 kit slots on the module itself, yes. It cannot hold more than 100 kits. You'll need to overwrite some stock kits if you run out of user kit slots. When I mentioned "scrolling past kit 100" in the video, that is just for the kit slots stored on the SD card, not the kits stored on the module.

Thanks I have several of your Kits I purchased from your website. I bought this from the Roland Sound Cloud TD-27 Kit Pack: Greatest Funk/R&B Tracks Vol. 1 it has a .tdz extension. It would load into my TD27. I get an error message saying NO BACKUP DATA! Is it a problem with the .tdz file?

Thank you for your support 🙏 You'll need to engage the TDZ button on the 1 Kit Load screen - this lets the module look for TDZ files instead of TD0 files like my kits. If you then want to load more TD0 files, you'll need to disable the TDZ button. If you don't see a TDZ button on this screen, you might need to update your module, it was added in v2.00.

I have the kits on the sd card but when I put the sd card into my module it always says incorrect file for anything i try. the names of the files are also not showing next to the number (118 (beaucart)).

Hi! If the names are not showing, that usually means that the module cannot "see" the kit file. This is typically due to a file path issue such as the .TD0 files being in the incorrect folder. If they're in any folder other than Roland > TD-27 > Kit (directly in this folder, no subfolders), the module won't find the files. If you can't work the problem out, drop me an email with a bit more info via the address on the contact page of the channel or through the store's contact form and I'll help you get going.

Yes, you can import samples with an SD card. The instructions and explanation of the file types are in the manual.

I see you commented on Adrien Drums Oct 2020 video on the TD27. He got lot of cymbals on his kit and I am trying to figure out how he did it. Does that mean you can use the spare Ryde and Snare connections from the snake ?

No, you can't use the snare and ride jacks if you're using the digital pads. My guess is that he's using drum splitters on some inputs (probably the tom or aux inputs). You need specific splitters that are wired for Roland modules rather than just "normal" jack splitter cables and it lets you use a separate pad for the head and rim zones. So you can set the "head" pad as a tom and the "rim" pad as a cymbal, for example.

Or maybe he's running MIDI from a TD-50 to the 27 to accomplish the same thing (I've done this myself). Pretty sure he has both modules, or at least did for a time, but not sure which method he's using without asking.

I just purchased the "The eDW BIG BUNDLE TD-27" and noticed a few files seem to be duplicated across a couple folders. Is that expected?

Hi. Yes, there are some packs that come with multiple files for different pad setups. If you check the manuals for those packs, it will explain the differences. Installing them is the same process as shown in this video, the only difference being that you pick one of these sets of files from the folder that matches your pad setup most closely. The old v1.10 files are also included in a separate folder in case your module isn't running v2.00, though I would recommend updating as the v2.00 software fixes bugs and adds/improves some features!

It seems like you know a lot about td-27 so is it possible to make a rim on a tom sound like a splash cymbal when struck? I made a custom kit and can’t seem to figure it out. When I set the rim to splash, the drum head changes to a splash cymbal too. I want a tom sound when stoking the head and a splash or China when striking the rim. Pleas help

Just replied on your other post, but for the benefit of anyone reading - Yes, it's possible. You need to press the button labelled H&R. That's the "head and rim" link - when you turn this off, it decouples the head and rim so you can assign separate sounds.

Most kits I've seen use a one shot on the snare, can't you also blend samples on the other pads, say a bell on the ride?

Yes, you can! I've done this on one of my kits (The eDW House Kit, has tom head & rim samples, crash edges, ride bow, bell and edge). Part of the reason I don't do it often on cymbals is that the samples are much longer so take up a lot more room. Also, I guess a lot of the time the snare is the most distinctive voice on a kit that lends itself to that kind of variation. I have a few kits lined up for the future that contain full tom sets though!

Yes, you can still use the stock kits. You can install these to a blank "User Kit" slot after the stock ones. If you end up with more downloaded kits than there are User Kit slots, then you might have to start overwriting stock kits that you don't use to fit them on (there are 100 kit slots total), but you can restore stock kits if you want to use them again.

Do you mean the SD card file structure, with the Roland, TD-27 and Kit folders? You'll need to format the SD card in the module to get that - there are instructions for this on page 24 of the Quick Start Manual or page 50 of the TD-27 Reference Manual.

Yes, once you format it, the correct folders will appear on your SD card. Then you follow the instructions here and make sure that you place the files into the correct folder (Roland > TD-27 > Kit).

... did not work. I used a KIT from my TD-25, changed the name as you suggested and got a warning message "SD ERROR". I expected as when trying to look for my KIT in the SD it read nothing, but I tried however. So disappointed with TD27 sound, and can't load my preferred 25KIT :/

At no point did I suggest you can load kits from a TD-25 into a TD-27... This is loading custom kits that are designed solely for the TD-27. Roland don't make their sounds compatible across modules, nothing we can do about that.

Page 7 in the Quick Start manual - "Insert a commercially available SD card (SDHC cards (up to 32 GB) are supported)." I remember reading that you can technically use a larger card, but the module will want to format it and when it does, it formats it to have only 32GB available. I've not tested that myself to confirm though.
