Just a thought: the potential in each of those drum kit presets would be represented in a personal and familiar way to the viewer if Nick played perhaps a (slight variation) of one of the many unmistakable drumbeats associated with the popular historical tunes that everybody recognizes instantly.

Is there a video for setting up and recording internal inside of the module Midi And audio and then opening or transferring over to computer for Mixing? This I would like to see. Please, Because on the TD50 module I had to Mix songs sitting on my Drum set. Not Cool. So I had to pull the TD50 Module off the drum set and bring it over to my Mixing desk via Midi just to swipe out different Instruments to better fit my song track. I really wanted to use my sound design that’s in Roland TD 50 and NOT USE DRUM SOFTWARE.

Seems just like the guitar multi-effects processors of the early 2000's. Lots of bells and whistles, but none that you would actually pull off at a gig. Guitar modelers are so good now that you can't even tell them apart from a real tube amp, yet here we are where an electronic kit can still be picked out immediately even before the second measure. I don't get it and I sure as heck don't get the price tag.

What I mean is only that the new sounds are not so good as they want us to believe...but they are the usual sounds we know from years! I am stepping stone to those who further criticize the sounds of this very expensive and recent model. Many of the presets on the TD50 are underwhelming as well as the ones on the TD30 that I have. Only 1 preset is good, and you also have to intervene with various controls. But is it worth paying so much for so little if we exclude the convenience and potential of this machine? There would be one aspect that is never shown that would lead the 50 to be a really good choice: hearing it with user-uploaded sampled sounds. What functions of the control unit affect these samples? So yes, we can forget the presets and work on the best!

I have one sound i like with the TD-50 (studio A) and i'm afraid i will loose that one sound and not find any i like in the TD-50X. So far, all the new sounds i heard of the TD-50X are bad. The digital HH/Snare/Ride is a massive selling point. Roland needs to improve their out of the box samples obviously and they need to build in multi sample triggering to provide nuance which will eliminate machine gunning. If they did that, they would be untouchable in the electronic drum market. The main thing that drives me crazy about Roland [as a long time Roland fan], is that they never put everything in one kit. They always take something away. We have to pay premium prices for their gear, so they should treat their customers better.

Not a fan of some sounds they chose to display here, like the Hi-Hat sounds for instance, but some are decent. Pretty sure a deeper review into the presets and samples would help bring a better idea of how good it can sound. I've heard digital drums that sound pretty realistic. Even digital plugins like EZ Drummer can have great sounds on it. Something that always seems to give away a set of E-Drums is when you do fast rolls. The snare here doesn't make it too obvious, but the toms really have that digital characteristic. I really like the looks of this set and all the technology it features. Good dynamics on the pads, the muffling Cymbals and different hit spots, the module seems to be very advanced with all the sound effects like, compression, ambiance, and pitch shift. 7:06 That was some sweet Jazz, though.

I erroneously thought they would be not too bad as far as cost went maybe 2000.00 or something did not expect 6500.00 dollars. Looks like this will take more research than I thought lol.

Now this is a absolutely great drum kit, don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome! But I just have to say that there is nothing that beats a “real drum kit” nothing beats a real, authentic sounding drum kit, and that’s simply because it’s real. Now I own a Alesia nitro mesh electronic drum kit and a acoustic pacific drums drum kit, and the difference is just not comparable. The e-drum kit just sucks compared to the real drum kit and that’s just because it’s real versus fake in this case, but this is by far one of the most advanced and “real sounding” drum kits, and I got to say, I would love to own this but, I can bet you right now that this kit is worth way more than my pay grade, and I get payed $15.00 an hour. But man would I love to own this! Great job Roland and great review Sweetwater! You guys rock! And you guys always come in handy when I need gear!

Sorry but there's really nothing that stood out to me w/ this module. It sounds like you're using the defaults which sounds a little processed imo(before customizing/editing). Most of the specs you mentioned are on the T27kv. Idk there's gotta be a better way to showcase the true power of these modules. Perhaps if you are playing in bigger venues & if you have an audio technician who controls the drum levels, then I would recommend this module or the TD50. But if you mostly control your own sound and would rather adjust the tone yourself then go with the TD27KV. The coolest thing about this module is all of the external outputs for every single drum and makes your audio technicians life much easier

Sounds good, but I still hear that same sound twice in a row problem. Especially on the toms. The physical modeling tech still needs some round robin features.

Huge money for a kit you can't even play out of the box!!!! Way to go ROLAND>>> I think I'll stay with my Alesis Nitro kit that came with a chain drive bass pedal and hi-hat pedal... I run it through my Behringer FX-2000 and I get rooms and compression, plus a tone of options.

Yea a lot of people complain about machine gunning. I have the update myself and I can say it doesn't really sound like this video nor the Rolands too polished version. Not really sure why the machine gunning here in this video is so bad though, but i agree it really hurt the ears here (nice playing though! I mean no offense on that front). I guess this kit has some adjusted trigger sensors which make it sound bad. The Roland one is kind of closer to my experience, but of course that is very much polished. I did however on my setup notice that 16" sample on the first kit (don't have it in front so can't check name of the actual drum there) have pretty bad sample and prone to machinegunning, so I change it to 14" sample and tune down.

Great kit, great demo, great drumming Nick. However, the sounds have poor dynamics and Roland needs to address this.

Yeah, I thought the same. The notes in the tom rolls sound very uniform, like they're "triggered". I mean, they technically _are,_ but obviously they're not supposed to....

A total joke at $ 7,499 ! You could get an amazing acoustic kit for that kind of money . I bought a TD-17KVX to play at home quietly and $ 1,600 was way too much but at least it will last for years and the $ 5,800 I saved by not getting the TD-50 could buy one hell of an acoustic kit. Plus to me , the sounds in the TD-17 module are just as good as the sounds in the TD-50 , just not as many and no digital pads. Big deal . It's a practice kit . Roland drums have been way overpriced forever but they have had little competition quality wise . Yamaha and that was about it . Now you have Drum Tech , ATV , Gewa , etc. etc. making high end kits that are also overpriced . To me , they are great practice kits but if Im playing live it's acoustic with maybe a couple of e pads to trigger some sample sounds like thunder or breaking glass for example . But I certainly don't need to spend that kind of $$ to do it. E drums have a long way to go to catch up to what keyboards have evolved into from the piano . The sounds are not that great considering how long they have been around . 'Nuff said.

Yea honestly I expected a module that was actually usable but it's only good for fooling around on. If you're trying to actually seriously drum and have it sound good and nuanced then you have to use superior drummer, and even then you deal with inconsistencies with the triggering.

I’ve always been acoustic and was looking at the 27 and thinking about buying because small gigs would allow me to play normally and adjust volume down. I’m rethinking it though with your comments.

@@jeffburke5666 Im not trying to discourage anyone from buying or getting into electronic drums . The TD27 is an awesome module . Its just that the prices are crazy for what you get. I love my TD17 KVX kit for the fact that I can practice anytime I want to without causing a ruckus , and I guess in that respect , it was worth the $1600. Of course I could have bought something way cheaper but I wanted something that will last and Roland is tops in that department. I would love to have the TD27 but I am not going to go through the hassle of selling my kit and then have to kick up another $2000 to $2500 to get it . If you can afford the TD27 , I say go for it ! It would be great for small gigs and yes , you get to control the volume . Some good points you made. Good luck and enjoy !

There's a hundred different options for the sub-$1k and sub-$2k market if you're really just wanting a practice kit. But the more features you get on a flagship product like this will increase the price dramatically. You're free to get some rubber pads on a rack if you are that cheap. This is what they mean when people say "there's levels to this".
@thetimahawk1
@thetimahawk1 8 ай бұрын
@@vintageludwig You are right. There are many levels. Especially today . You can get an ekit with all mesh pads for under $300. Rubber even cheaper. It really depends on what you want and can afford. I do not regret buying the TD-17KVX. It has what I wanted in an ekit and at the time the Alesis Strike was having all kinds of problems with the foam pillars falling over and plates cracking in the snare. There were also issues with the hihat triggering. That was almost 5 yrs ago . They have since corrected those issues and redesigned the kit altogether . My TD17KVX still works perfectly so I can't complain. I just can't see spending close to 10 grand for an ekit.

Maybe it's just me but it almost sounds as if the triggers have been set too sensitive and the responding sounds are therefore maxed out all the time on the snare and the toms. I think that if you setup trigger levels properly on any edrum kit you should actually never truly reach the mamimum value (midi velocity of 127 so to speak) because only then can you be certain that you are not exceeding the maximum. If that happens you'll lose a lot of nuance since all hits will be exactly equally loud.

Hello, Chris! At least at current, Roland has not elaborated much on the technology used in the VH-14D other than it has multiple bow sensors to support positional sensing and improved touch muting/choking. I'm certain there will be more info to come once these start arriving. Thanks for the interest! Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com
