Ray is such a killer drummer! One of those players who plays for the song instead on making the song a platform for a drum solo, yet plays a lot of creative and cool things.
Not gonna lie, this is a monster mix! props to the dude who mixed this.

For real, the recording and mixing of the drums is insane!
@dylanmyhill11883 жыл бұрын
I know! Ironically with Drum playthroughs the mixes always seem to sound awful and don't do the drummers or the songs justice. So it's really cool to have this one with a sick mix!

He never gets the credit that he deserves as being Korn's drummer it's incredible how he always tries to out do himself. Ray is one of the nicest, most modest and incredible drummers out there. I'd love to see Nick watching this performance. He'd have a mixture of stink face and grin. Ray... your a monster!
@theotherdave514 Жыл бұрын
First time I saw this man with KORN I had MEGA stink face. Just rubbed me all kind of the wrong way. But I literally just read your comment and watched a few of his interviews and absolutely cannot argue your point about the man. His skill is really truly undeniable. NSVER rushing NEVER dragging. Technical out the wazoo¹⁰ I will say, I recognize now why I didn't jive at first. I personally feel that Nick's skill level and style was what made me like KORN all that much more when they formed. Maybe, as a drummer myself, I just don't like changing up the rhythm section in bands I like. Nick imo just fit better and made everything seem more cohesive. Ray here, is so good that it distorts how I hear the group now. Reminds me of Pearl Jam (talk about a long history of changing drummers lmao) I was actually happy when Abbruzzese joined. Kruzen was fantastic in studio,but I saw them live and I was supremely disappointed. Might have been an off night, but it was bad. Abbruzzese came in, and the next show I went to I was beyond stoked. He breathed life and funk in a big way....even if he is almost always rushing. He just...fit...but very obviously not socially with the group for long. I was pretty sour patch kids at his dismissal,as he inspired me to get serious about leveling up and finding better , more serious jam mates. Then down...down...down the line they went...lost all interest for so many, many....many years.....until I heard that one of my ALL time favorites Matt Cameron was slapping the skins. Who, had also gone through creative differences with Soundgarden and was shown the door. Took me about 30 seconds to hear that he absolutely just does not fit with Peael Jam. Buttered the pocket the whole time,, but had obviously (likely) been told to speed up songs that had no business being at the tempo played.. No more funk...clean to the point of making the songs...sterile.. He, just like Ray, who in my humble opinion are both guilty of steralizing the sound and touring over the other members...they are just TOO DAMN GOOD. Brings me back to personal resistance to shuffling percussion up when the skill level goes up too far or conversely down. My brain reels at how much it can affect the sonic dynamic of the original writing. Not always, but a lot of the time. Different feel, different control, different shells/skins/tuning. I shudder to think what System Of A Down would morph into if, oh, let's say...Danny Kerry was swapped for John Dolmayan.. I absolutely love John's drumming, but accept he has his strengths and weaknesses. Don't care. Won't engage people's online arguments. Fits like the proverbial glove itself. .I think it would be absolutely rip SOAD's collective soul, through the mouth and out the ass of their sound....that is...when they were making noise. Anyways I have to hand it to you and say thanks to have piqued my interest to change my mind about Ray. 🤝
