I agree on the voices that many state in the comments. The only thing people complained about the JU-06 was 4 voices instead of 6 voices. Roland should try and squeeze in 6 voices before launching this.

I like the form factor. I'm glad they've updated their arguably most popular Boutique before the SH-01A. Ditching the touch strips was a good decision (I don't mind them though) to allow for more controls. I'm not anti-Boutique and actually think a few of them stacked together makes for a fun but very capable hands-on setup. But I'm sorry Roland, these things remain a problem: - Still only 4 voices, if it were 6 I would not complain. - Still only mini-jack output. - Still only USB-based power (if not using batteries) which leads to all sorts of noise-related problems in a studio environment. - The keyboard is still over-priced and flimsy. BUT I do really, REALLY like having such a dinky but powerful synth that has this much patch and sequence storage. I wish there were a guaranteed solve for the USB power noise issues.

@@savanaviolenta There are several options, 1. use the Aira link on the MX-1, 2. If you are already using Aira Link there is a way on the MX-1 to use a splitter cable and still use the other three USB inputs. Make sure the splitter has one to plug into a USB powered hub only the second will go to the data on USB input on the MX-1. Then use the end of the joint splitter use a regular micro USB cable to your Boutique. If you want to use the three quarter inch stereo jacks do the following. Look on Amazon where I got mine look for a ground loop filter. Mine is SNI-1/3.5 3.5mm Filter made by PAC www.pac-audio.com

Roland, lifelong fan here. If you aren't going analog then please release professional versions of these Boutiques, not bothered if they are slightly larger thats fine but what I'd like to see is the full polyphony, hardware chorus, analog filter and full sized audio connections and to sort out the usb noise issue with better midi response timing. I already own a couple of the boutiques and the original synths but would still be willing to upgrade to a pro version of the Boutiques with the above features due to sheer convenience of form factor and I bet there are thousands like me who would do the same. I bet you won't listen!

Some minor improvements that I think could be easily implemented: 1.Keep the led lights on the sliders so we can see in the dark. 2. Use a metal flip switch like on the tr-08 to toggle between the 106 and 60 emulations. 3. At least 6 (preferably 8) note polyphony. : )

Just stop already, Roland! Either make a REAL analog monster synth with good build quality (which is what EVERYONE wants) or do something truly innovative and new. These 4 voice, battery operated toys are a joke. Take a lesson from Dave Smith. They kept making thin sounding digital and hybrid synths with shoddy build quality instead of just making what people wanted (a modern prophet 5). Finally they released the Prophet 6 and the OB6, which are high quality and excellent sounding, and they have sold very well.

Cool!!! i like Roland continu with new Boutique´s ,.. sliders like on sh-01 proved they works perfect to control it....so good this pitch and mod touch sliders are gone more space.... wish the SH-01 also was made like that-- so time to create the roland boutique sH-02, and the sq 600sequencer to midi control all the boutiques&outboard and a BOUTIQUE mixer. / Boutique format with 16 mini stereo inputs volume / pan / mute / eq and aux sends for external fx few and master volume :)

Look at all the negative comments. These were the comments when the JU-06 came out, too. And then when they were all sold out, the crying commenced. "Why didn't they make more?!" Marcelo Campos The polychain (at least on the JU-06) just sends the >4 notes out to the second unit, if the notes are held. So if you are playing single notes or smaller chords with longer release, new notes will not use the second unit, but still be played on the first unit and thus cut the release of the others. It's useless and just dumb, i tried it myself and was really p----ed off. Even if it would work, or you are using an outboard solution (like the RK-002, which can distribute the notes the right way): For 800$ for two there are lot of other options. And i have no hopes on Roland doing an update. They should have done it when people were giving feedback on the first boutiques. I'm done with them.

For the 4 voice polyphony people need to understand it is a limitation of the DSP. ACB technology is limited to four voice poly, like it or not and I assume the addition of two extra voices would need a new implementation of chips, which will cost more so here you go.

It would need either a second chip, or a new chip with more cores. System-8 uses 2x for 8 voice. It doesn’t help that Roland’s poly chain implementation for the boutiques is still broken AFAIK

Adding a second DSP chip not only costs more, but also makes it require too much power to run on batteries, so it would also need a power supply. At that point having all these tiny controls packed into a small box doesn't make much sense.

​@@Wagoo The System-8 has three chips, and they are a newer, more powerful generation than the ones used in the boutiques. This is because it runs the models at 96 kHz internally, whereas the boutiques run at 44.1. Yeah…the chaining on all the boutiques is still crappy because of the way voices are allocated, and unfortunately that probably applies to the JU-06A as well, since it's still using the same single DIN cable approach (which can only communicate in one direction). But even if it worked properly, I don't think chaining is a very appealing option anyway. The second box is mostly a waste of space, and you still have to deal with two separate audio signals. You can route the Output of one to the Mix Input of the other, but if you're using chorus, the effect is not in sync. You're also stuck using the analog output, since you wouldn't want half your voices to have gone through an extra pair of DA/AD conversions. Although it doesn't have the Juno-60 emulation (yet?), the System-8 is still by far the better option for those who want 8 voices.

@@st0rmchild hm yeah, 3x BMC. I remembered that wrong. 2x ESC2 in the Sys-1/1m and 1x ESC2 in the boutiques.. presumably due to the 96khz vs 48khz processing. Lately I've been thinking these are just custom quad core ARMs or something, which would explain Roland's ease of recompiling between VST and hardware.. although that'd leave the Sys-8 with spare capacity.. and I think I remember hearing these BMC chips are also in the Jupiter X, just running different code.. so not doing ACB (but ABM there). Don't think we'll really know unless someone cuts them open and puts them under the microscope, though. Would be nice if the 106 plugout of the Sys-8 got updated to have a 60 mode..

If you reinvent an icon, Then why you are not as close to your OWN original, as possible? If you want to compete with all those low price Behringer you are compared with .... what about at least 2 more voices? Sell it for more and do it right in the next issue. If there will be any. asciibaron Even if that same old DSP really is not capable of 6 voice, they had enough time to redesign the hardware for this 2nd version. They could even have provided the additional Juno-60 model as update to JU-06 owners, when it runs on the same hardware. These limitations are down to pure, ignorant marketing strategy. I would really have celebrated and bought an updated 6-voice version, because the form factor and sound of the JU-06 was a genious. But as I said, they f--ed it up then, and earn big facepalms with this second fail.

I have just got hold of a JU-06A and it's great but it plays out of tune. Each note especially when sustained but even when not sustained plays almost a semitone flat. I understand this is supposed to be a vintage analog synth sounding unit but I can't play any other instruments along with it when recording unless I tune them to the synth. This seems crazy. And from watching videos of people demoing this synth online whilst having a tuner active it seems they all play very flat. They sound great when someone is doing a KZbin clip using just the synth and drums but mixing them into recordings with other instruments is making me seasick and sending me completely insane! Does anyone else experience this? WTF Roland?! Reply

Another 4 voice digital toy...why, why, why. It does sound pretty good in this video, but 4 voices and the dinky, fragile form factor is a killer. It's a toy, Guess people will have to pay $1500 get the slightly larger, but still dinky toy Jupiter XM to get more than 4 voices. Or pay $2500 to get normal sized keys, controls and jacks on the Jupiter X. For that price I can get a real Juno 60 and a real Juno 106.
