You have graced the pages of so many fishing magazines, books, and web sites and have inspired and motivated anglers from all over the world. As a spindly young angler in the 1970s, my dream was to fish Lake Okeechobee. In the early 1980s me and 2 friends packed into a 2 seat hoda crx hatchback, and drove all the way from Massachusetts, to live that dream! I still have a single 12" Hummer Hawg worm left from that trip, still in the original package.! Anyway, I see your busy as ever, teaching and sharing so much for so many. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for inspiring me and so many other anglers, to share in that dream life, whether or not they made it to Okcheechobee !

Sorry that I am showing our ages with this comment Roland! Lol.... I also remember attending the last day weigh in of the Bassmaster Top 100 on the Connecticut River when you ran north to just below the Enfield Dam and kicked their tails matching the hatch with the combination living rubber/hair jig and twin tail trailer( if I'm not mistaken the trailer was a Yamamoto). I've caught plenty of smallmouth on the river over the years using that exact pattern! You really have to downsize the jig now with all of the fishing pressure. You were a huge inspiration to me back then when I was in my 20's. (The Yamamoto twin tail became my go to jig trailer from that point on)

I'm sure people were catching bass in the olden times with lines woven of grass or thin strips of weed stem or bark, and hooks made of bone. The quick part where he told us to squeeze the water out of the frog was a tip you don't get just anywhere, and if you would it would probably sound scripted, or be spoken at 1000 miles an hour like the Gen Z video maker had one too many Monster energy drinks. When Roland said it, it sounded unrehearsed, like it just popped into his head, like advice from a fishing buddy, dad, or grandpa would sound. Great vid from an old-school master who's still doing it.

I'm sick about it but they drained that area where I did the film. Tomorrow I'm looking for new water! It's a never ending challenge keeping up with the good fishing in the Everglades!
@Brian4242 ай бұрын
@@RolandMartinOutdoors I hope they drain those areas slowly when they do that so the fish have time to move to different water when possible.

Thanks so much! I grew up fishing from my Dad's outboard boats for bass with lures, like in the tournaments. We watched all the fishing shows. Now I mostly shore fish in populated areas so your advice is greatly appreciated.

Roland Martin could be the most big headed professional bass fisherman out there and if it were anyone else,they would be but yet he's got the most humble attitude. I respect the crap out of him. A guy like that will reach a lot of new anglers and start them off having respect for one another.

Roland I found you recently and have used your technique with plastic worms, pitching from the bank in a lake were I have not caught ANY bass for months. It worked three out of four times I visited the lake in the past week. THANKS

How is this even possible....I've stumbled into a time warp where the fabled legendary mythological Fisher King of my long-lost youth brings it all back to basics in the humblest way....amazing

Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, and Bill Dance are true LEGENDS of bass fishing imo. They caught big bass without all the technology that all the bass fishers have these days. They’d have huge final weigh in bags of fish at every tournament just by using Brain power! They’d catch big bass everywhere they went! Knowing where to fish, what color to use on any day of the year, and how to fish plain and simple!!!! Love watching these videos

I was surprised at how vigorously he sets the hook. He even said that he set it a "couple times" on that one fish. Learn from the master. Set the hook like you mean it!

This is my favorite Roland video in the last year. Everything you need to fish like Roland is in this video. One good set up, a handful of the right baits, polarized glasses and a little bit of Roland know how. The best time to go fishing is whenever you can.

This guy is awesome lol. I’m trying to get into fishing and I don’t know much about it at all. But he’s really giving the good info and pulling in them fish. Wish I knew where this spot is so I could hit it.

Before you posted this message, Roland posted upthread that they had drained this spot of water since he made the video, so it may or may not be fishable today. Either way, there are plenty of spots like it.
