My friend's dad let me try his on when I was a kid ... I never forgot the feel of that watch and made a pact to myself that I would own one some day ..... I still love the feel and look of the 36mm DD President in gold ... nothing else like it, imho ..

Craig, great watch great review. I am looking at picking one of the 118238 Rolex DD in 36 mm. I know Rolex also has a 39 and 41 mm in this watch. I am your age so I thought I would ask you - Do you have trouble reading the time on this watch? Thank you.

I love the 36mm Day-Date Rolex :) I have a vintage Rolex DayDate 1803 (Pie Pan) made in 1975 with president bracelet and hidden clasp and I love this watch. Since I have the 1803 my other Rolex watches are retired. Maybe nowadays it seems a little decadent to wear a 18k wristwatch but who cares what the others think ;)

Just curious, have you ever work a 118238? If so would you say the weight difference was dramatic, slightly different or similar?
@MidAtlanticTV6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, never worn that model. I've heard they are still comfortable. Not too heavy.
@stevepen6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I have a 118238 and yes, it is very comfortable to wear. Its heavy but weight is evenly distributed and is very comfortable to wear. I was just curious because I think the "main" difference between the 18238 and 118238 is the solid bracelet. I just haven't had the chance to compare the two. I was able to compare the weight to a stainless steel GMT II last week and it was a significant difference. The GMT felt extremely light (almost fake), but it wasn't... it was new in box at an AD. That was the first time I've held/worn a sport watch. Although I like the look, I passed on the watch. I'm gonna stick to my DD. I posted a list of all of the differences between the two models on the Rolex Forums years ago if you want to check that out. I could cut and paste it here to if you'd like.

ROLEX, ROLEX, ROLEX! Thank you Craig for displaying and sharing your Rolex with the world. It actually helped finalize my decision to purchased a new 18K Day-Date w/ champagne dial. I was tired of dreaming about it, it's been a lifetime obsession, and though I've owned a two-tone Sub for the past 31 years (that works beautifully and looks a year old), I owed it to myself. After all, I've worked for it. Regrets? Yes......not buying it 10 years ago! I purchased the Sub when I was 21 with a 12 month personal loan and told the folks at the bank that I was starting a band and needed to buy instruments (because I’m sure they would’ve not lent money to a 21 year old for the purchase of a Rolex). I love the Rolex brand and the more I look and stare at these timepieces the more beautiful and unique they seem. A Rolex to me has the best of all worlds, it's beautiful, it's classy but sporty, it's reliable, it's a statement even when you're not aware of it, it was innovating and keeps its tradition, it holds its value, it takes care of itself when you don't baby it, it's a treasure to look forward to, and yes, it's not cheap. But what I find really expensive in life (besides anything of poor quality no matter the cost) are the things we don't reach for when we really crave them, dream of them, ignoring that time (no pun intended) is of the essence. Do I really need a Rolex in my life? Of course I do :) Like everything in life, we look for something beyond the essentials that motivates us and fulfills our imagination. A Rolex on my wrist makes me happy, my mind travels much farther than any place a car can ever take me. And that my friends.....is priceless! Carlos O.

No additional charges were made.

Fantastic review, absolute love it! I've gone from sports Rolexes, through a small collection of vintage Omegas, to AP and a pair of Patek's but the DD has remained on the back burner of my shopping list... Not any more! I'm aiming for the same 36 mm DD in RG, but with a meteorite diamond (BR2) dial - president bracelet, and fluted bezel like yours. Your review was very candid, and I treat some of my pieces in the same manner (no babying, within reason). Best, M.

Hi, I just recently bought a gold 1803, the bracelet has a fair bit of stretch which is normal for its age. But I was wondering how come my presidential bracelet is all one colour of gold, the others I usually see like yours have a two tone look/effect. (I know yours is a lot newer than mine) Like the outer links brushed and the centre links usually polished, but mine is just all one tone of gold. Was just wondering. thanks

How do you stop the second hand for say 20 seconds til the right second comes round?
@colnagorob10 жыл бұрын
Craig thanks. I collected my (so say 1979/80) Rolex 18k DayDate yesterday from a jeweler in the West of England. Since I asked the question on your excellent KZbin posting I have rapidly come to the conclusion that I may be in possession of a fake? Nothing but nothing I do will make the second hand stop. The day and date setting are okay but the bracelet sits poorly against the watch. With the strap off there are no serial numbers between the lugs and at the opposite end no model number or REGISTERED DESIGN mark either. I do not have the means to remove the back and search for authenticity in there so I will ignore that option for the time being. In addition the dial looks authentic but the contrast between the dial and the batons and the hands make it difficult to read (my eyes are 7 years older than my teeth and my teeth are 50 this year!). The number design in the date window is not the same as my old Rolex and the cyclops is offset and hardly magnifies the numbers at all. Finally, whilst the secondhand "sweeps" when held to the ear there is a distinct tick which I believe should not be audible on a genuine Swiss movement? Who knows! All in all I am not a "happy bunny"!

Hey Craig, I love your videos and streams. This is one of the most beautiful watches in the world. I was wondering about one thing, if you could have only one watch to use for everything, business and casual - and you could pick this or the gold stunner. What would your choice be, everything taken into consideration? The Daydate will of course win in terms of versatility, but the stunner will win in terms of precision (and comfort, I guess). What would you pick, any why? Thought about asking in the chat, but it would probably hijack the video.

Hey there Craig. I watched your video about a month ago while wearing my Datejust with 4 carat diamond bezel. I always wanted to add more to my collection as I've only had datejust models if speaking of higher-end watches... not long ago I sold two of them and when I'd sell them I would repurchase as I seem to find good deals on them in perfect condition.. so I decided I'd flip the third Datejust and go for the day-date after viewing your video! Your video was one of the first I've viewed that shows the size properly.. other ones made it look huge or just strange. Anyways thanks for the great video review, you helped Rolex sell a Day-date! I was surprised how many companies try to sneak a "swiss-made Rolex quality" bracelet instead of the real Rolex bracelet.. and many of the auctions or ads on ebay and other sites will keep the bracelet information small and in as few words as possible - make sure if anyone looks for these online check that out! I'd also suggest only buying places with known stores and feedback in Rolex community (rolex forums, etc) as well as have 30 day money back (without any restocking fees, just lose shipping costs) if you follow those rules you can come out great as I feel I did! I just thought I'd stop by and thanks for the review that helped me finally pull the trigger on the Presidential Day-Date. Oh and the best part is I still have the diamond bezel Date-just ! lol , temporarily albeit - listed it for sale not too long ago. (4 carat si1 or up diamond bezel 18kt bezel and 18kt/ss model datejust, gold dial - loved the DJ too honestly but after a few years I was ready for something more. Good luck with your future videos!
@unspecifiedd7 жыл бұрын
Oh just a note to any potential buyers.. make sure the day-date you are buying isn't polished outside of AD specs.. tons are over-polished and look terrible.. reason they go online.. make sure that they have the correct appearance (Such as inside links of the presidential bracelet shiny , outside dull).
@unspecifiedd7 жыл бұрын
I concur with the original owner advice.. I actually did not go the online route - went to authorized dealer brick and mortar store nearby & made sure had box & papers as well.. but I did see bob watches and other stores comparable would be alright to purchase from online but that is just my opinion.
