restoration of that president day date bracelet prob costs the same as a second hand explorer II. "a few weeks" at a craftsmans hourly rate ? GULP! I did like the vice holding the ribbon of polishing paper - neat way to polish the inaccessible bits of those pesky curved llinks.

Awesome work. But when I send it to Rolex they will offer me a brand new band, but this would be not authentic to my vintage watch. So what would it cost to overhaul my president bracelet in your workshop? I don't wanna call you there, because my first language is not english.

Just curious, do you what that tape is called that he is using at 2:18 mark or what grit sandpaper is the equivalent to achieve that factory finish? I use a retractable kind of pen that has white (nylon???) bristles... almost like toothbrush bristles but softer that come out of the tip and it does a nice job making it satin, but doesn't quite give you the texture if you know what I mean. Thanks

+Vania Cristo That was my exact thought. They compared the 'before' focusing on bracelet stretch to the 'after' deliberately holding the bracelet pulled tight and level so as to not show how much stretch it still has. This is really deceptive marketing

If you own a Rolex, you should be able to spend the money to get it serviced at Rolex.
@ganimed19769 жыл бұрын
Calum Reid If you send an old Daydate to rolex with such heavy stretch on the band, they will not repair it. They will offer you a new one. BUT many collectors don't want that, because their watch is no longer authentic with an brand new bracelet, because of the markings and stuff. So they decide to restore the old one.
@mrsrandommademedoit33878 жыл бұрын
+Reid TV Rolex watches are really not that expensive.. there are ALOT more expensive watches Patek, lange, Ap to name some where servicing them outside would be insane. But a rolex is within EVERYONEs budget, if they save up for it. That is why everyone can't get it serviced at rolex.
@pavy4158 жыл бұрын
only an idiot will do that for a band not only do they charge about 5 grand for a new solid gold band but they keep the old one and do no give it back to you.
@bigsykedaddy9997 жыл бұрын
No, what @ganimed1976 said is correct. If you send that bracelet to Rolex like that they won't repair it, they will just offer to replace it for $15k. That price isn't an issue but people get sentimental and don't want to replace the bracelet if it's been their with them through all their milestones in their life (IE children's birth etc.) So this way you get to keep the original bracelet that came with the watch and it keeps the value up too.
@reidtv71857 жыл бұрын
Haha I just saw these :) I didn't say Rolex are expensive and I know they're very easily bought. All I said is if you can afford to buy it you should be able to afford to get it repaired at Rolex, must say I didn't know they charged that much to fix a band. Neither my nor your comment is wrong :)

Tom Jones I think when they say two weeks they mean a few hours a day for two weeks. Surely they have commitments to other clients!
@lances48037 жыл бұрын
Tom, is that what you think you saw, replacing bent pins? The original pins actually accumulated dirt, grit and oil over the years. This acted as an abrasive and wore down the pins and links until they were dimensionally out of spec. Actually what he did was enlarge every hole in all the links, by hand. He then fabricated all the oversized pins from bar stock, brazed some into position, and threaded others. Then reassembled and polished.
@Solaar_Punk6 жыл бұрын
jfdomega yes indeed, was it man hours or not, they didn't specify.

@joeo.80347 жыл бұрын
Didn't repair any of the stretch at all, in fact it looked the same. This is a hack job, don't trust a sold gold with diamond Rolex in the hands of anyone but Rolex. This actually devalued the watch, since its not being done by Rolex, anything that goes wrong with it, rolex wont touch it now. He removed and made the holes bigger, but didn't do it to original spec, in the end this is a shit job and all that was done was a polish. The links still have a lot of space in it, and it doesn't look any more sturdy than it did when it came in there.
