As usual with Roll On, the discussion between Adam and Rich is always enjoyable, and I learn from the two of you. Thank you in this episode especially for bringing up regenerative agriculture in the manner that you did. Both of you added a great deal to the information that is prevalent and did so in a way that is needed and articulate.

Rich - tip for writing from my time doing a philosophy PhD… my first draft of a piece is always me speaking into my laptop/phone and I use speech to text to dictate what I’m saying. It has been the easiest way to overcome self editing when writing for me. You speak your mind stream of consciousness and just have a conversation with yourself about the topic. You will fill pages very quickly, much of it will need a lot of refining and a good chunk will be deleted but I have found it the most effective first pass

I loved the conversation you had with Johann Hari and was glad that you asked him some tough questions. If someone isn't being asked the hard questions, conversations tend to be simply promotional and less interesting, IMHO. Maybe the American culture will see the benefits of being a little bit less individualistic. I think you would all benefit from working together.

What do you guys think about hydroponic farming and vertical farming? Would love to hear your opinions on the matter. Supposedly uses 1/5 of the water and nutrients vs land based farming. And supposedly easier to control the nutrient profile for each crop. Also used far less land.

First- nothing better than Roll On! I appreciate you discussing Johann Hari episode; however, "compassionate" is not the word i would apply, I still don't get how you as a self proclaimed addict can not grasp food addiction. Some might argue it is harder to overcome since we still need to eat food. Every body is different, just because you were able to lose 40lbs through a given method does not mean the next body can imitate that. I can have a glass of wine or not any given time, but I don't assume every body can tolerate alcohol that way.
@divalivingston16646 ай бұрын
Look at the different plant based options and doctors who support relearning food consumption habits. It’s not usually about metabolism. The people who eat when they are not hungry, and this includes me, are more likely to put on weight. Whether it’s stress, or emotions, it’s most likely another trigger than the need for food due to being hunger.

That’s what makes RR RR and I like it. Nicely nice is not why I’m here.

The philosophy espoused by the Dalai Lama here is indistinguishable from Jesus's core message. While "like a mother's love for her child" is a good example, I also like C.S. Lewis's observation that love "is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained." And that wish extends even to those who would harm us, which is the really challenging part. (I recommend the prayer attributed to St. Francis as a plea for a transformed heart that continually manifests this very kind of love in the world.)

Two more books that act to prime creativity (and probably the only ones I've read) are Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert; and Art & Soul Reloaded, by Pam Grout. A&S Reloaded is a very lighthearted, easy, and fun read that is probably very different from all those serious sounding books that Rich mentioned. Sometimes you just need a light touch. More fun and delight, as you are playing with bringing the creativity. There is my two cents on the matter.

@BozalliCopter6 ай бұрын
@@anthonyfox477 I think that's because they are close friends. Naturally with a good friend, being more relaxed, you might interrupt in a way that you wouldn't with someone you don't know well, with whom you are more "polite" and cautious. But I do think we all should take care and try not to interrupt our friends too often. I've noticed I do it sometimes and I don't want to
@Jaelri6 ай бұрын
And maybe Rich knows that Adam can cope just fine with interruption and Adam knows that Rich doesn’t appreciate his flow being interrupted. I suspect that their off-camera conversations are similarly imbalanced.

Guys, you're wrong. Cows (ruminants of some sort) ARE needed as part of a healthy food system. I've been an ethical vegan since 1980. Regenerative methods are legitimately our best hope to better environmental health. Ryland is right. You guys aren't farmers. It's really true that we need animals and plants to grow healthy real food that heals the planet. A lot of vegan foods are far more damaging to the planet compared to grass-finished beef. You need to keep learning on that topic. Please keep learning because you're missing the mark on this one.

Rich, of course you're not just talking out your ass replying to the "we need ruminant for regenerative farming" - you're just echoing actual science. You're too shy about it just because you're not personally the domain expert. It's okay for laypersons to have a good grasp of the facts, and you do. The animal-involved regenerative movement is total greenwashing, at best ignorance and lack of understanding of veganic gardening - and I think surely also an outgrowth of the millenia-old human romanticization of animal husbandry (see Monbiot's AMAZING extemporaneous discussion about this cultural phenomenon in his appearance on The Proof after his debate with that Alan Savory dude). You understand the facts, you don't need to demur.
