Recently the ball chain on my Roman shade broke. It's gotten a lot of use and this is actually not the first time this has happened. If you have a broken chain on your roller shade I'll show you what to order and how to install it in under a minute. This is truly a repair anyone can do without experience so let's get started.
I got a replacement chain by the Shade Doctor. For sizing, measure your chain from the top to the bottom as if it's not broken. Mine hung 48 inches from the top rail to where the loop forms. And for this we'll need a #10 size ball chain which is the most typical although there can be exceptions. So I'll start by rolling the broken chain out of the clutch roller until it falls out. And now the replacement roller chain is ready to be installed.
Insert the new chain in at the bottom of the clutch gear. Start on the side of the gear and slip one of the ball bearings into the teeth of the gear. At this point, grab the gear and start rotating it slowly. As the clutch gear rotates each ball bearing gets fed into the gear quite smoothly. The hard part is actually getting a grip on the gear so the gear can be turned.
In less than 10 seconds the new chain is on and the shade functions like new again. I hope you will be able to see how easy it is to replace a broken chain on a roller shade. And if you need a new ball chain, I've listed it in the description so it's easy to find. Remember #10 is the most typical size.

Nope. This is for a specific model which allows for removal of the gear cover. In most, the gear, clutch, and gear cover are one piece.

exactly. on my case you can not install the chain like that, you have to actually cut the chain and use a little piece of metal to kee it together .
