ROLLING DOUBLE COAL ON THE UNION PACIFIC CLINTON SUB! Fast freight and multiple drone views!

05/12/2024 Montour, Ia. Made the best of a mowing day in Montour! This West bound sand/ empty coal met a massive east bound double coal train just outside of town. A West bound stack/autorack had some great speed as it passed. Ended my visit with a nice manifest train under the drone!

Empty cool full coal. right at the start. I have yet to witness a double coal train so cool. And those stack autorack trains. So cool. Man, I've done that with the drone. Zoom and then freak out while flying...such awesome video

Hello Red, what a super long UP freight train with lots of CenterFlow Hoppers and even more empty coal hoppers, great. The second UP coal train had some empty hoppers and in the second part the hoppers were full of coal. Your photos with the drone are fantastic again. The next UP train is an Intermodal Container and Bi level Auto Carrier wagon. And a UP mixed freight train in the opposite direction. Looking at the amount of engines assigned to the coal and IM service one could get the impression that UP makes more money with IM. Those coal trains were in no hurry. Good to see the heartland doing well. Beautiful video, Red, thanks for sharing. That prefab rail still lays there where they put it together 😂

You're welcome Aranea! Loaded coal trains usually have a speed limit of 40 mph. That track panel will go on a nearby bridge at some point.

My guess is, that sand/coal train stops at Marshalltown. Loaded Fracking sand hoppers (probably from Wisconsin) head south down the Spine Line toward Oklahoma/Texas oil country, and empty coal hoppers continue west to Wyoming.

Nice one Red! Very nice catches on that last manifest. Don't usually see Reading & Northern covered hoppers there or NYCentral for that matter. UP1995 came thru Rochelle, Il Friday eastbound, so maybe it snuck past you in Montour when you weren't filming 🚂🚃🚃

You had a good break from your mowing and spruce-up work around the camper trailer witht the arrival of these four trains, Red! This is the first time that I have seen a train that had a long set of covered sand hopper cars followed by a long set of empty coal cars. The combination of two loaded coal trains heading east proved to be a train of massive length. It was nice to hear you mention that there were several CNW coal hopper cars in the consist of this loaded coal train. With the four engines on the front of that Intermodal and auto rack train, I can understand why there was no DPU on that train. You mentioned that there was a CNW steel coal car in the consist of the final train in this video. I missed seeing the car because the train was moving too fast to read any reporting marks. Did the car itself have CNW reporting marks or was it the cover for the car that had CNW lettering or a CNW logo? I had to edit my comment to tell you that I enjoyed the drone footage. I thought the drone footage of the meet between the first two trains west of Montour was great.

Thanks Thomas! I stay busy there when mowing and catching trains. I believe that coiled steel car had CNW reporting marks. Don't remember seeing CNW covers. Flooding in Montour is nearly up to the tracks.
