The Griffon was destined to be fitted to the Hawker Hurricane, but the airframe couldn't be adapted to it......unlike the Spitfire. The Griffon was a development of the Schnieder Trophy winning 'Type R' of 1931.

Awesome i just learned to differences of the merlin to the griffon. Griffin is a 37L and Merlin is a 27L Griffin was quite more powerful.
