Scott McLaughlin Explains "Tall Poppy" Syndrome | Romain Grosjean

Hey guys, Romain here with a new series called, Meet The Drivers, where I interview and chat with other drivers in the IndyCar circuit: in this episode, I meet with Scott McLaughlin, and he explains what "Tall Poppy" syndrome is. Scott and I had a rocky relationship at the start, but as I've said, all Australians are super friendly people, and in the end, you always get on. He also explains some details about his career and his ambitions.

Great, great interview. I ( most of America, I am convinced ), as are 332,403,650 Americans great appreciate you guys coming to IndyCar and adding the energy. You two are my favorite drivers to have watched in your respective series ( Super8 and Formula 1 ). This is by far the best motorsports interview I've seen. I love the idea of Meet the Drivers - keep them coming. I would like for you to interview former drivers, too ( ie Rick Mears as I grew up in Bakersfield and the Mears Gang ).

You should really watch the recent interview by Kym illman who’s an F1 photographer and has an awesome KZbin channel that goes by his name lol.. does an interview with Pato O’ward when they go out for lunch.. great great interview. I know all of us Indycar fans don’t want him to goto F1 because he’s so awesome but I know we’re all curious how he would do also.. in Kyms comments now all the F1 fans want Pato over there lol. But check that out and if you’re already aware I’m looking stupid right about now lol 🤷‍♂️

@@bmorg5190 Ha! B Morg - no worries! There isn't enough time in the day (24 hrs even) to follow/watch all the great racing news/vids. I am very familiar with Kym Illman and love his work. Thanks for the lead - I'll check it out. BTW - I was not aware. BTW - let me (us) know here if you hear anything wrt how the F1 teams would receive Andretti Autosport. I've asked and commented with no luck, and suggest Wolffy (Mercedes) should be very nervous when Andretti forms an F1 team. How cool would it be to have the Andretti name back in F1? I remember watching both Mario and Michael way-way-way back in the day. I sort of think Colton could do very well, but F1 cars seem to need a bit more finesse .... thanks! Cheers

@@truegret7778 I hope Andretti gets in so badly also.. I just keep hearing that teams don’t want more new teams. They don’t want the grid to be bigger but if you ask me that’s just a poor excuse. And he is exactly who I would want to be driving for Andretti in F1 also. I am just so impatient I wish we didn’t have to wait a couple years for it to happen or to find out.

@@bmorg5190 Exactly. I read/saw that many F1 teams don't want Andretti on the grid because it will dilute the purse. That suggests to me they know they can win. or "be at the pointy end" of the grid. If I were Michael/Mario, I would partner with COTA, Indy, and Miami promoters to say "no more races in America unless Andretti is allowed in to their precious club". Mario did a lot to get COTA built.

Enjoyed the interview and the driver perspectives. Indycar driver field is as talented as any. F1 drivers, F2 Champions and immense talents like Scott come in and certainly compete, but seem even with the rest of the field.

Loved the chat with Scotty, you should ask him about the lad Reynolds and jealously...whew... I’ve been an on again off again Indy car fan for years, but the last few years I’ve really been excited about it. I just love the series right now. The drivers, the racing, it’s awesome right now! In fact, I have trouble rooting for any particular driver! I like almost all of them to some degree. On a side note, I’ve always wanted to see the V8 Supercars make a trip to the states for a few races! How cool would that be?!?! V8 Supercars at Laguna, Road America, St Pete, COTA, or Dayton road course! It would be great!
