As promised, here is the finished product! Watch and listen to the Army Field Band #trombone section play Hector Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture, arranged by Sgt. First Class Wesley Ballenger. #berlioz #youtube #lowbrass #usarmy #romancarnival #armystrong #armyvalues NAfME ***** The U.S. Army
@tycheent11 жыл бұрын
That has got to be the most amazing arrangement of the Roman Carnival Overture that I've ever heard. And a challenge to the other military bands (yea, Marines and Air Force, take note).

The fact that this video is still getting youtube time is a testament to their superb musicianship, a fantastic arrangement, and fine video/audio recording. My pride in them comes from a long relationship with The United States Army Field Band as a trombone section member for 25 years. I helped bring the two ranking members into the organization. They and those who followed have grown this section to amazing accomplishments which continue to this day (2021) and I'm sure it will continue.

Nine minutes of bliss! Trombones and Berlioz, I feel as though I've died and gone to heaven. These guys make it look so easy, no melodramatics, just really good sound. I like the mellow bass trombone particularly (but then I would!). Very good arrangement. Well done you guys!

I think the Trombone is the best brass instrument by far (no offence to any other brass instrument). But it is the only instrument that is very similar to the human voice; It can hit highs, lows, and glissando, and just sound beautiful. It is the most versatile and the most sexy.
@miklomartinez81889 жыл бұрын
That's not true, the euphonium is actually the closest to the human voice. Trombone is second.
@norsetitan57769 жыл бұрын
Miklo Martinez Well, isn't it a matter of opinion?
@miklomartinez81889 жыл бұрын
Norse Titan No, it's true. You can have an opinion, I agree with you that trombones have a beautiful sound. But euphonium is closer to the human voice because it can replicate more of the lower pitches of the human voice
@norsetitan57769 жыл бұрын

Back in 1986 I met a gentleman who was 94 years old and a professional musician. He played what seemed like every instrument and all very well. As we ended our two hour chat I inquired what was his favorite piece. He responded, "Roman Carnival". That stuck with me this many years. An excellent performance hear. I'm sure I will be back many more times.
