That should stop the development of the new housing estate?

And pull down most of the old eastfield while they're at it.

Should not stop anything, but should be explored recorded and added to the extensive knowledge we are developing. Then develop the land in a way that saves as much historic detail,as possible. The past should not control the future
@mrlister20003 жыл бұрын
@@jamesjohnmoss8130 It is being explored, and recorded but once they've finished, it will all be removed and gone forever. As for the past should not control the future, what a stupid statement to make. You are erasing history and putting soul-less houses in its place, and for what reason? So Tory donors can continue to earn millions, whilst there are over 100k of houses in the UK empty. hang on, building new houses on any piece of land in the UK is a tax dodge, renovating existing homes is not. There's the real reason why greenfield land across the UK is being built on.

Most of the building is at the eastern end on eastfield, this is at the western end

With the size of the villa one can safely assume that there were / are many more structures in the area. We know there was a signal station on the castle hill but whoever had the ' mansion built must of been someone of importance. It would of been connected by infrastructure and presumably protected by soldiers. Let's hope a full survey is carried out before any other archaeological remains are destroyed. Thanks for posting the video

Looking at this from a geographical point of view, they would probably of had a outpost or something on the near hilltop, we call olivers mount, surely now after such a significant find its worth taking a look up their, 👍
@rambledogs20123 жыл бұрын
From a Roman army stand point that would have been too far up and across from the local area (looking across to Scarborough). If anywhere, around the Scarborough castle area would have been better as then they have a good enough view of the north and south side.

@@rambledogs2012 if someone lived behind Oliver's mount, they would have still had a look out post at the castle, and they used fire beacons to signify attention.

Is this anywhere around Stancil, Tickhill? My ancestors go back to Stancil and through my research a Roman villa was there. Thank you Deb Stancil Hall, Carolina, USA

eastfield council estate.
@MrSmn19802 жыл бұрын
They are building over the top of it eventually. Absolutely disgraceful. Part of Scarboroughs heritage. Scarborough council are good at removing the old and building over important sites such as this one. And probably all due to the fact that the local authority has to pay so let’s just fill it in and build some shite houses on the top. This site should be preserved for future generations to study and enjoy.
