As a horse owner, that opening scene hit hard. You absolutely check your horse first. They rely on you 100%. That sold me on Jon in a single scene. It’s a great series, can’t wait to see how you take the rest.

Love you’re doing Yellowstone!! I came to Yellowstone late via the prequel 1883. That show was just as epic and got me so invested in The Duttons that I had to see where the story of their family were in present day… This show set the stage for the telling of a multigenerational American saga and reminds me sometimes of an updated version of the great miniseries from the 80/90s. I just finished season 1 of 1923 Yellowstone and can’t wait to see how that generation lay the seeds for the present day Duttons.

I really wish I had watched 1883/1923 BEFORE I had watched Yellowstone. Aside from one scene, the rest would have led in perfectly

You will grow to love the Dutton family. They come across at first as typical white rich people lording over a vast ranch. The thing you will learn is how they got there and why they fight so hard. Now this show has two prequel shows I highly recommend. 1883 and 1923 are well worth the watch, but they are not needed to watch Yellowstone. If you ever wondered just how hard it was to cross "go west" watch 1883. its a fricken nightmare.

Both 1883 and 1923 does give insight on the psychology of folks living in rural areas, especially the old money families out here on the left coast who have been out here for 150 years.

For some context on the Navy Cross that Kayce earned... The NC is the second highest award for the Navy and Marines. The only award higher is the Medal of Honor. Translation, Kayce did some gangster shit at some point.

This is good storytelling. It got the viewer invested in the characters and left the them with plenty of questions for which they will want to tune in to the next episode for some answers. Here's just a few to ponder. Q: Why are John and Kaycee at odds? Q: Why is Beth such a hard case? Q: Why does Beth loath Jamie? Q: What's the relationship between Beth and Rip? Q: What's the significance of the brand? And why does Jimmy get it before his first day? Q: What kind of lunch was the Governor talking about? Q: What will be the consequences of the shootout with Rainwater's men? Q: What will be the consequences of diverting the river? Q: Who does John groom to replace himself now that Lee is dead?

So happy you are doing this series! I love your take / perspective. I came to the series late so I got to binge watch it all and it is information overload! The part I like about it though is that you NEVER really figure out who to root for. Every character will do things that make you love them, and every character will do things that make you hate them. That's why my favorite is Beth. She is so infuriating but I kind of admire her in a sick way? Would be very interested in seeing you react to the 1883 prequel. Is it's own stand alone story 100%, but the tie ins / characteristics / filming, let you know it's the same world. I love it. .... now I have to rewatch both...

Favorite is probably Rip, though John is right there. Beth fg scares me. It actually turns out that there is no real villain. Just evil circumstances. John is like Abraham Lincoln, fighting to preserve the union of the Ranch by whatever means is necessary. He commands loyalty, well earned. I pickup up on this show at season three in a free marathon. I haven't seen the first two seasons. I'll try to avoid spoilers. Let me just advise you to root for the Yellowstone Ranch. It will help against the sea of grey.

"Does he really need a gun like that from two inches away?" Bigger is better when someone else has a gun and wants to use it to hurt you or take from you. It's not rocket science. If someone assaults you with a knife I'm sure you'd want a spear. Guns don't kill people. People do, and I want the most I can possibly have to defend the ones I love from the many who use the power of a gun to do evil things.

I remember my first time watching this episode the thing I got hung up on the most was how accurate the cow birthing scene was up until the calf pops out and immediately runs off 😂 I've seen plenty of cows give birth, the calf takes a couple hours to learn to walk after it's born

It's all about the land for John because he made a promise. I am a big believer in what you create from your energy is aaaalllllll yours. The Duttons are all-American in my book. I pull for Casey and Monica's relationship because there are so many trying/have tried to end it or don't approve of it and it's none of there damn business who they choose to love. Although there is some woke nonsense and softness about both of them that gets on my nerves at times, but it's not overbearing. Thanx Anna:)

Beth Dutton is so far unlikeable. It maybe because of the profession she has to be quick on the draw to excel. Time will tell. I don’t know if I like any characters yet. John Dutton maybe likeable even after he was so mean to his family but again time will tell. Thanks for another great review and commentary Adorable Anna.
