Yeah, come to Timișoara! It is the New York of Romania! Hungarians, Serbs, Germans, Romanians, Bulgarians, Gypsies living together, sharing their culture, food, traditions! I have always celebrated 2 Easters - the Orthodox and the Catholic ones, at times I celebrated 2 Christmases - the Serbian after the old Christian calendar and the Romanian one. Timișoara is the most western city in Romania, having Hungarian, Turkish, Greek, westerns influences! Here our differrences bind us together because we have lived this way forever! And it is a great!

In 1973 there were big floods in Romania, and what you've noticed as the "new" side of Sighisoara, on the river shores, was built after the old houses were demolished. I remember passing through the city two years later, and there were still many of the old houses. One could see that the water had reached up to the roof, and the walls were badly affected. Even as a child, I was able to understand the drama of the people who had to climb to their roofs and wait to be recued by helicopters. Many died, it was a tragedy. In schools were organized donation centers, I remember my parents and I going to donate clothes, blankets and food. Oh, that cemetery is the resting place of one of my great-grandfathers, Pantelimon. I do not know where his grave is, my grandmother was hardly remembering, because he died in the hospital, they used to live very far away. I do remember walking through the cemetery, though. Thank you, also, for showing so many images of the old city. I am from Brasov, and old buildings used to be part of my life for many, many years.

Sighisoara is my hometown. I love the city where I was born and I respect it. But those in power do not respect him because there is corruption. The walls are collapsing, the pavement has been sold and replaced with normal stones and many other things from which they could steal. I'm glad you like this place and you informed yourself very correctly! But still I think it should depend on the citizens to choose their leadership well to save our small medieval town, "Pearl of Transylvania". I wish you good luck in your travels!❤️

I live in Romania (at the south of moldavia region) but never been to Sighishoara. What is interesting on that cemetery from what I see is that there are no crosses so I guess up there in the old times they weren't orthodox by religion. The crosses in a cemetery is a characteristic for orthodox people. 08:19 I heard that usually tarragon is used in food recipes only/mostly in Transylvania . Here in moldavia we don't use tarragon and I think I know why : its because its powerful perfume is kinda similar with the washing powder ' perfume so we need to be very careful on dosage otherwise the food will smell like a very scented soap. My family did such a mistake on the dosage of tarragon , added to much tarragon and as we are not used to this powerful smell we had to throw away the whole borscht food. Big like from Galatz. Edit : another reason why tarragon is not so used in food recipes in the south of Moldavia it's, maybe, because this plant is not grown here, I mean not mass produced, so it's kinda an unknown aromatic plant.
@f_8v46dt3..-zja_d4 жыл бұрын
Well you saw it the wrong way, they are all just tombstones and crosses everywhere. Crosses are characteristic for catholic cemeteries, too. Of course you don't understand that, they are all German-Saxon crosses and inscriptions in German language, all with the names of the people buried there. And the Germans were all catholic in that area, just like the buildings and churches there, not in orthodox, but catholic-gothic style. I hope you understand now. Have a nice day!

Min. 7:36 - CIORBA = sour soup. Ciorba read as "Tschiorba". The name is of Arabic origin and it means "to drink" = yashrab. In fact, this word was taken by the Ottoman Empire from the Arabic occupied parts and changed into Turkish as "çorba", read as in Romanian. Romania being occupied by the Ottoman Empire for about 480 years, the Turks brought not only the word to us, but also the...sour soup. CIORBA is NOT dressed with vinegar but another kind of liquid called BORȘ (read as Borsh). It's simply water and wheat bran left to sour for 2-3 day in a worm place. In Transylvania and Northern Moldavia, they use to eat Ciorba with sour cream. SIGHIȘOARA - read as Sigishoarah. The wood roof over the 180 steps was built to protect the kids going uphill to the school on rainy or snowy weather. It looks like you guys missed the house where Vlad III the Impaler (Dracula) was born., now a restaurant. Nice video, informative.
