There was a time when I used to hate living in Romania, I hated this country and all I wanted was to escape, I went and lived in a few countries but once I got a bit older and realized how many opportunities and how much better this country is compared to everything around.

Her romanian is SO GOOD. I mean, not perfect, but really good. She can easly talk with someone else witch is a big freaking thing here. Almost allways we need to be the ones to talk another languege, but when we hear someone from another country speaking romanian and also beeing understandeble (with verry small mistakes, but no one really cares about em' anyway), that is a really big thing for us. Well, congrats. :D

Imagine me as a romanian living in USA, well just because of the economy, otherwise I would gladly go back. I remember when an American asked me: So your going home ha? What are you gonna miss from here? And I was like umm nothing really 🤷🏻‍♂️

My AMERICAN wife quit NY for RO and for me of course. She loves RO ( BRASOV) and she speaks pretty good Romanian to. We lived together in the states for 12 years before convincing her to move to RO with me. Our daughter she was 5 when she came to RO for the first time and she is happy here. Free daycare, free school, free healthcare, etc. Romania is food but only in or around big cities. Of course that are poor areas but is going well forward. We can travel in 28 European countries only with a regular ID and we have fucking good food & music. Miss though that American cars that are not really available here for the regular people. Only the rich can have a V8 gasoline Land Cruiser vs the US where any cashier can have a big ass SUV

Thank you for the kind words about Romania and congrats on your language skills. I want to say you should have informed yourself better before saying things like: "not many people have cars" or "no one lives in a house". Bucharest is suffocated with the huge number of cars and also a lot of people live in beautiful houses in the suburbs. I am glad you had a good time here and hope you will come back for more experiences...and bread :)

Congrats on your exceptional Romanian. I mean you even used "pe care..." which is a big thing, because only educated or very educated Romanians know how to use correctly these "care/pe care/din care/în care...etc”. You talked a lot here about your experience with a gypsy family and I know that, as a missionary, you go to the poorest possible places and people, but that experience might be just an exception, especially when it comes to the Gypsy minority :) Btw, may I ask how many months(or years) have u spent in Romania? It may be just to link this video and show that Romanian, as beautiful and hard as it may be, its still easy to get or understand since it has always had something familiar there, even for the germanic based native speakers :D

You are so good harted and sensitive (that's a compliment! :)) and your Romanian is perfect! How much time have you spent here, like 20 years? You had no single mistake and this is quite something for such difficult language! We also have houses, and not less of them big and beutiful, I have to say I am amazed you haven't saw them. As for the cars, we really think we have too many! I am amazed too and a little sad when you said we are special and so different because we are compassionate, closed and faitful to each other and consider to sacrifice ourselves for our guests. That's normality, my dear! People all over the world used to be like this! It's not out fault we kept this common sense and others didn't. I'm so sorry you, as a young hope for this planet, are not taught these profoundly human values. I'm actually afraid to think what kind of creatures live in other parts of the world, for Chirst sake. We don't have so much money, as you noticed, but we are reach indeed! We have our souls. Tradition, education, faith and generosity are our visit card. Sadly, our new generation, influenced by the West, is going to lose all of these...

1:08 "mamaliga" is pretty much the Romanian version of polenta. It's a 2:1 water-corn ratio mixed in a pot until it becomes this soft mass that holds its integrity as it dries. My mother makes it all the time so that way I can stay in touch with my Romanian culture even if I live in Canada. Romania is the best, and honestly, my body is here but my heart is in Romania.

Thinks are very beautiful, humble, very polite and warm people there, it makes me feel kinda proud watching, but also there's some rude, selfish and thieves people you have to be careful, witch is kinda disappointing...you know advantages and disadvantage you must know before you going in any other place. There's quite a difference mentality between generations, but...still a unique place in my heart. Thanks for those lovely words about my country, btw your romanian is perfect!
