I had the same experience in Panama, at Fort Sherman. Deployed there twice, and then to Honduras as well in the late 1980's. Out in triple-canopy jungle at night, it is just unbelievably dark. Out in the jungle, on patrol one night, I got woken up for guard duty and went to answer the call of nature. Realized, in the inky blackness, that I had no idea which direction my platoon was. Ended up falling over a 10' embankment and making my way back by the light of my Casio watch. As absurd as it sounds, the light from my Casio W-26 (which I still have) illuminated three or four feet in front of me, and I eventually got back to my hammock.

😂 True Story- We were young and always joking- The senior man in our unit was in his 50’s and former Vietnam Vet. One night we were sleeping out and after seeing huge centipedes and other crazy insects, we just wrapped our selves in a poncho, sat back to back and waited for dawn. Sgt Nicolosi (the vet) slept on the jungle floor like it was his living room. We were in a mood so we crouched down with out arms outstretched and the ponchos draped over us to look like giant vampire bats, we danced around him making bat noises and waited for him to freak out. Nothing! My buddy Dan said “could he be dead?” We crouched over him and he was sleeping with his eyes open! Scared the bejesus out of us and we ran away like schoolgirls. That morning we asked Sgt. Nicolosi if he was messing with us and he said he had no recollection of the incident. 🫣😂👍

@@ScoutCrafter That is freaking hilarious!! Vampire NCO!! They used to make these crappy green nylon string hammocks that we all carried and used. Not an issue item, but you could get them at the PX. You could hang a hammock, string a ridgeline and put your poncho over, and use some fronds as spreaders, and sleep relatively dry and bug free. Our JTC instructor slept on the ground like your SGT. Nicolosi, and would hear a clicking sound, and point his flashlight at a scorpion making the noise and go back to sleep! He knew that jungle well. I escaped relatively unscathed, although I did get chased by a Bushmaster snake in the Majinga swamp once...

Great colour match Scout. It seems odd that it has “Made in Romania” stamped in English on it. (Insert suspect dog face here.) I know English is taught in Romanian primary schools but that’s only since the fall of communism. Made for export perhaps? When I was a kid I remember seeing a tv show that explained this new invention called a CD and being amazed that both sides of a record album went on just one side of this CD thing. Remember the techno-files that insisted records sounded better even though the cd’s didn’t have the clicks, pops and scratches that records had. I think we might be the first generation to see so much technology come and go again in a single life time. Floppy discs, tape drives, laser discs, cd’s, cassette tape, walkmans, electric typewriter, dot matrix printer, 3D tv, VHS & Beta video, 8 track tape player, mp3. I feel old.

I saw your Kaman box. Must have been some type of audio equipment. Both my parents worked for Kaman. The original factory was located in Moosup, CT. My Dad and Mom knew Charlie Kaman, the owner and founder. He was a huge Jazz music buff. So was my dad. My Dad has a collection of about 13,000 78 records from 1920’s-1950’s. Charlie was well know in the music industry. Glen Campbell approached him and asked Charlie to make a guitar out of “Space Age” materials that would not go out of tune under hot studio lights. That’s where the Ovation Guitar came from. They started mfg in Moosup before they moved it to a dedicated factory in another part of CT. New Hartford I think. Then they shipped them overseas. Funny to see the Kaman name in your attic. While ConnEd is there, you should chew them out for flooding your basement every time their crap power feed leaks. That Opossum is amazing. He knows you are not a threat. Thanks for another great video. Best Regards, John
