As a bear living in Brasov, I can add some context as to why some bears are blocking the roads. It's most often the unionized bears working for the garbage mafia, going on strike, asking for larger portions. Most bears are actually pretty chill. #notallbears

Caracal native here, I would like to clear a couple of points. -They did not forget the crane inside a apartment block, they forgot it inside the municipal hospital. Thus today, the hospital has a small garden on the inside which doesn't appear on the original architectural plans( it's where the crane was) -The police door did not get stolen, it was the fire station door. Back then the fire station shared the same building with the police station -The prison on liberty street was a political prison where during communism Ceausescu joke enjoyers were sent (now it's a dive bomb bar where me and my friends would go to mock dead drunk alcoholics when we were 6 to 8 years) -There was also a clock in the railway station which had Roman numerals but the 4 wasn't a IV but IIII Overall except random street fighting, and poverty, it wasn't a bad place to grow up, nowadays its way better most of the communist ruins were either torn down or renovated, and it's a rather important commercial hub for the 'deep south of Romania. Love the video Janos you dirty bozgor, keep it up 🤗❤

As a hungarian living in Timisoara, i can agree on Timisoara and Cluj literally being kind of the same... But minorities have it real good in Timisoara, since the people seem to be more civilized on both ends. We have "Timisoara's hungarian cultural days", education that's fully hungarian (except for the Romanian language and literature class), hungarian jobs, and you won't really see any hungarian or romanian yap about the other ethnicity. , we kind of coexist and are friendly with each other. And for the people that like bitching and are taking it to the extreme, it's not welcome by any of the two ethnicities. But Timisoara is more multicultural than that, also having significant german and serbian pop, that also have all these nice benefits. I love it when I see Romanians enjoying a langos or a kurtoskalacs in the town's centre, it makes me feel warm inside when my culture is appreciated

I think the time when Romania was truly like the wild west was the period between Ceaușescu's death and joining the EU (1989 - 2007). After that, it got more stable and functional in general and it kept getting better. The only thing that didn't get better is the population numbers.

I spent a month in Cluj & Brașov last year, and I loved my time there! Brașov was especially beautiful. I had hoped that my knowledge of Spanish and Italian would let me pick up Romanian quickly, but I quickly discovered that despite being another Latin language, it has a lot of extra complexity mixed in from its neighbors. I'd love to go back and study it better someday. Everyone I met was kind and helpful, and the cuisine was a delicious mixture of the surrounding cultures... overall it was a great experience and Romania ended up being one of my favorite places I've visited!

As a Romanian having returned to my home town after living in Germany for the past 21 years, I unknowingly dropped my wallet on the sidewalk twice because of wearing shorts. Both times, and on separate occasions, random fellows immediately pointed to it, made me aware of it. Both times I had over 100 Euros in cash inside my wallet. To one of them, the first one, a young man in his 20's, I offered 50 Lei, which is 10 € and he politely refused, saying that it's not necessary. The second time it happened, it was an older man who made me aware of it. I was and still am pleasantly surprised at this kind of behavior seeing how it happened in Targu Jiu, Gorj, what used to be part of Valahia, and what should be the most underdeveloped area of Romania, which is really not the case anymore. The streets are way better, actually drivable, many of the old communist buildings are renovated, repainted, way less depressing to look at, and as I pointed out above, and from what I have seen so far, so is most people's behavior, vastly improved.

Oltenia was once part of the Habsburg empire same as Banat, in the begining of the 1700s. The turks were beaten, Oltenia and Banat were taken from them, and the high ranking nobles in Craiova (boyars) were very happy to join the habsburgs, same as the Timișoara ones. The Oltenia region was organized as the Banat of Craiova. Turns out the new owners were set on higher taxation, seeing a rise in hajduk movements, and the boyars also saw a lot of their power reduced. So in 10 years the population in Oltenia started being openly hostile, and in 20 the Habsburgs were forced to leave. In hindsight I like to think they tried integrating Oltenia, but didn't make an effort to understand the local context, so it ended up being bad for them and for the locals. Some historians call it an experiment in modern colonialism. Wouldn't go as far, but it wasn't great.

@@tortellinifettuccine hey man I get the love but stay grounded. While you're quite right on the average don't spoil it with the extreme comparison. @tortellinifettuccine
@tortellinifettuccine Жыл бұрын
@glamoagency5642 KZbin is literally deleting my responses to you so that's great. No, in no way are you correct. First off if you think an American cul-de-sac is a good place you are incredibly miseducated and have no idea what a cul-de-sac is. There are actual good safe neighborhoods in the country, they're called gated communities and they're by no means good, just safe, though not for those who can't afford it... anyways let's address your beyond insane claim. Again, as I have said, the US's safest area is still 5x more dangerous than the most dangerous areas in Europe (most in Russia). Russia is still way fucking safer than the USA, let that sink in a little. You compare Fentari to some shitty American suburb on Long Island, totally a fair comparison, one is a dense area with historic impoverishment and the other is a rich copy-paste American suburb that's bankrupting the country like the rest of them. I'm being sarcastic if you couldn't tell, that's not a fair comparison. But just to show you how safe Romania is, we'll do it anyway, because Fentari is safer than the average American suburb. American suburbs don't allow for anything but cars, it's hard to see crime, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist lmao, some of the worst crime rates in America are in their suburbs. Now of course, if you look at how much crime, fentari will have more because it's triple the population...but its rate of crime is significantly lower than say the average Long Island cul-de-sac. Where did you get the propaganda shoved into your head that the US is safe, especially Long Island lmao. I live here, shootings happen daily, people don't even get sad about them because you can't, they are DAILY. My train station in Chicago, one of the safest cities in the US, has had stabbings, murders, shootings, and muggings, all while I was there. People do not even help you because they themselves don't want trouble, that's how bad it is here. My 16-year-old son has the legal right to buy a gun right now, without a permit, training, or any background check whatsoever, so long as he drives an hour out of state. Here in the USA, despite crime rates being so high and gun ownership as well, you're still more likely to get run over or die from medical malpractice(look it up this isn't a joke or exaggeration) than to get shot, despite the chance of being shot or run over in the USA being MUCH higher than any country in the developed world. Relying on your feelings is how you're susceptible to propaganda. Relying on facts makes propaganda useless on you. Don't create an opinion on something you don't have multiple peer-reviewed sides on and haven't researched thoroughly. Romania is ridiculously safe, the only places safer are places like South Korea, where you could leave a laptop on the street and no one would take it, but it's not much safer than Romania, only by a few 0.1 points, so you could potentially do the same in Romania.

I was at the dentist’s (back in 2005, i think) and 2 cars stopped in front in the street (one cut in front of the other and braked), the a bunch of guys got out of one of the cars with knives, then the others as well had knives and one a katana. Literally the dentist, the nurse and about 5 of us waiting for our appointments were outside just watching the show. Nothing really happened, they just chased each other around the cars like cartoon characters. The most interesting bit was when a guy appeared out of nowhere from between some blocs with a huge ass stone and tried to throw it on the hood of one of the cars, but could not lift it high enough. After 15 min, they all got back in the cars, including the guy with the stone (he took it with him) and they drove off. Another time, allegedly there was a shooting behind my apartment bloc. I saw it on the news and they made it look like a mini gang war. I say allegedly because at the supposed time I was buying bread from the corner store 3 blocs away and there was nothing happening. Turns out a guy tried to shoot another one through the window - he missed. That was it. The mini-war was after the police was called and people were arguing about an hour after the fact. I grew up in George Enescu (for whoever is familiar with the neighborhood) ah and went to highscool with Caiac’s kid (Mihai Pîrvu, former balkan boxing champion and member of organized crime group “Fratia”). I had a dog named after his crime “mentor”, Sile 😅. Had the occasion to see him being called in by the principal because his kid was cutting class. After he came out of the principal’s office he grabbed him by his hair and backhanded him in the middle of the corridor and scolded him from cutting class and embarrassing him.

@dariusoso2983 one, that's not true, the majority of romanians are FINE with their country, but yes there are a high amount that think the rest of the world is better off, that dosent make them right though. Over 90% of romanians that leave the country return at some point, 67% return in less than 5 years. Leaving to other nations and coming back is quite literally how the eu works, why else do you think open borders and trade agreements are apart of it? Think about it. You live in romania, things are good, but you're technically making less in wages than you would be in say France. But, in France cost of living is much higher too, so your actual disposable income would be better in romania because of low cost of living despite a lower wage. But, you remember you're in the eu, and you can take the train to France right now, work there as much as you'd like, and return with thoes higher wages back to romania where cost of living is still low. That's how France became developed, the uk, Germany especially, etc. It's how the eu literally is made to work. The usa even had a relationship like this with Mexico for a while, just before the usa started going to shit and that's when they blocked Mexicans from coming in, ergo trapping millions of them in the country and forcing them to assimilate. That's an example of what NOT to do. The eu example is tried and tested, and it works.

I wish I was joking but this kid that had to be 6 or 7 years old deadpan stared at me and said "Why are you here we're poor".
