I don't know if someone else already answered your question: Wacken is a small village (about 2.000 inhabitants) in Northern Germany. Normally it is a quiet place with a lot of cows (therefore the symbol of Wacken Open Air is the burning bull's head) but for four days every year about 85.000 metal fans from all over the world invade the village for Wacken Open Air. The first WOA had been in 1990 (starting with about 800 visitors). It is now one of the biggest metal festivals in the world.

The people of Wacken must be very happy when the Metalheads leave. In the village of Clisson, France, during the "Hellfest" festival, people say Metalheads are nice people but they are happy when they leave. 😅

The fan base includes people from 8 to 80 . . . and beyond, I'm sure. Quite a few of us, who grew up on Deep Purple and Led Zep, think that Nightwish is the best band (and Floor the best singer) that we've ever heard - and we've been listening for 40 years or more. Her stage presence is right up there with Freddie Mercury's, and the fun she has on stage is immediately contagious. You can't go wrong with Gabriel's list; you also can't go wrong just searching "Nightwish Wacken" and picking a vid at random... that concert seems to have brought out the best in every member of the band. I especially love the opening number, "Dark Chest of Wonders". She strides onto the stage in front of 82,000 people who've paid to see somebody else, and ... well, just watch it.

I told you this song was about 10 gears removed from Ghost Love Score, and that your mention of Metallica was pretty accurate. This song has almost nothing in common with Ghost Love Score. It sounds like 2 completely different bands. And I assure you, if you continue, every song is very different from the rest. Their music is extremely diverse and eclectic.

These musicians are all real performers. They give their all for the sake of the song. Floor and Marko together are one of the most dynamic duos that I have seen in a long time. They sound so very good together. In this song, at the end of the glissando that both Floor and Marko do, I always love the look on the guitarist's (Emppu) face "Yup, you just saw them do that."

There's no city in the background. All you see is part of the Wacken festival. Wacken actually is a very small german village where once in a year the farmland is used to host the biggest metal festival in the world. You might have seen the flaming bullhead logo. That represents the farmland heritage.

So, let's keep the tradition going ! This song is Like a Coffee with Red Bull .... On Steroids 🤘❤‍🔥🤘. The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classically trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast . And yes, Floor can sing in any style! She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. AND,...Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch. As you watch videos of Floor and Nightwish you can tell that the Wacken 2013 was basically a perfect show. Everything in that show went off without a hitch. There is another female fronted Metal band called Epica and their lead singer is Simone Simons. She and Floor have VERY similar singing styles but they are different enough you can tell the difference. I would recommend listening to the song "Storm the Sorrow" as an introduction and then move to Epica's Perfect show, Retrospect 10th anniversary and listen first to Unleashed. Then when you are ready, Simone brings Floor out at two different points in that concert and they sing Sancta Terra and Stabot Mater Dolorosa and SMD is sung in Latin. Now I don't want to receive all the hate but in my humble opinion, they are the two most powerful and best voices on the planet at this time.

Wacken is far north Germany, north of Hamburg. There are several smaller cities around that area too so those lights could be several northern Germany cities. Wacken as a town is fairly small.

this woman is such a versatile singer it will blow your mind i love this protest song sounds great such effortless transitions i love what they can do with rhythms with those instruments such a cool pace then i picks up love the rhythmic breakdowns they do and they do them often so many awesome layers of sound ands do they have a big sound, should be playing stadiums arenas thats alright Metallica has a big sound too and they have played with a symphony too on two albums which i have S&M 1&2. and Nightwish is a progressive metal band and have some power metal in there too. Nightwish's music is very intellectually stimulating thats why the folks in this band are top tier as far as the epic and very cool music compositions that Maestro Tuomas Holopainen the Finnish heavy metal Mozart and don't forget about their elaborate light and sound and another very cool thing about this band is they are like the rolling stones or alice cooper group in that they can play in a large building or a small venue and still kill it and make their audiences feel like a million bucks when they play all the live footage i have seen even from 2012 and 2016 ya know they bring their A game everytime

As you have discovered, Floor is Dutch. They seem to have something in the water, as she is not the only great female front woman to come from there. You need to see her perform with her good friend Simone Simons, who fronts Epica. I gather Simone is married to a member of Kamelot (who had an album called Epica, which is where her band name came from). Their first singer was Roy Khan, who has since left. Some suggestions: the Beste Zangers tv show that had Floor in it. They sing songs for eachother, songs that mean much to the person they sing it for, and the last episode is duo's. So they sing for the rest of the singers and the presentor. If You're going to watch it, save the duets for last. The last duet of that evening is awesome. Floor sings with Henk Poort, who did Phantom. Guess what they are going to sing...

The song was Amaranth from the same Wacken 2013 concert and i was immediatly hooked. Not only the Wacken 2013 concert is fire, but also Wembley 2015, Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, Hellfest 2022 and Deichbrand 2022 are great. My birthday is april 11 and one of my favourites is 7 days to the wolves (wembley 2015). For the big ones you have to wait a little bit. You are not ready. Those are The Poet and the Pendulum and The greatest show on Earth. I already did subscribe on the reaction Emma Kok.

I knew you'd love this one. As versatile as Floor is, and as fine as she sounds in all her various singing 'modes', when she rocks out in her 1st register (like in the verses of this song), her tone is, IMO, just perfect. The amazing vocal gymnastics she adds are the icing on the cake. In regards to suggestions, I'd say keep following Gabriel's list, it's as good a guide as you'll get, and I think is well crafted to introduce you to the band and music in a logical sequence. (Hint: You'll get another insight into Marko's vocals when you get to Everdream. There's *so* much more to him than you've seen so far. 😉) Cheers, from Canberra. 🙂

I always mention him as our metal Mozart. And that drumming, Jukka, your style is what no one has. I miss you. The current drummer of Nightwish is Kai, I want to say he is excellent professional drummer also.

Floor joined the band intiially to finish the South American and Australian legs of this Imaginarum tour. Every time I'm reminded they played here in Fremantle WA, a stones throw away from where I live, and I didn't even know they existed yet - I die a little inside.

This is an outdoor festival just outside of Wacken German (Pop 10K). Nightwish is very unique. It is much more than just great music. The poetic lyrical content adds a magical quality that speaks to your soul. In addition these talented musician love what they do. They are having fun and smiling and feeling the music which is so infectious. Hope to see you again very soon lovely lady.

It's not the city you see in the background. That are the drinking/eating shops from the festival ground. Wacken also isn't a city... it's a village with about 5000 people.

Check out Epica - unleashed live retrospect, it is like nightwish but even better, they play with a full orchestra in this one ;)

Kind of sad to see all those greate Musicians who are no longer in the Band. Marco an Jukka were stil Part of the Band back in 2013 ... but as we can see with Floor joining the Band back then, the show will go on, hopefully.

Well they just re-signed with Nuclear Blast for a multi-album contract, so that pretty much says they will be around.
