Sometimes I hesitate to say anything at all because: the one thing said was I’ve been accused of faking being a RN, I’ve been told I don’t know what I’m talking about, and I’ve been told that they r sure that the doctors an individual has is taking care of the medical side of things......and on and on. I share things because of my education, and I truly just want to help. I am disabled and have several life threatening illnesses which have caused me to have to be on medical leave. So I’m in my own home with home health nurses who come out to do the stuff that I cannot do on myself. I know what it’s like to be a nurse, and I know what it’s like to be the patient. So I had hoped that my opinion would matter to those suffering in any way. I just want to help. But yes I’m so happy that she listened to us when we were pleading for her to get it looked at. I’m so happy she did. Low platelets can be life threatening.....especially when the person has a serious medical issue in addition to the low platelets. I’ve seen patients go into cardiac arrest and the platelets being so so low is most likely why resuscitations not successful. I also love how everyone in the comments are being so kind and understanding. This one guy that I followed called Peewee-toms on his KZbin channel.....on top of the fact of his having one of the most deadly as well as most rare type of cancer, he had trolls on his page saying it was all a fake and lie for attention. Well, they ate their words because at 24 years old, peewee passed away. I guess they now see that he wasn’t faking an illness. He has been a true example to everyone. He was one of the most positive people that I’ve ever ever met. His testimony really helped me to stop moping around and using my disability as an excuse to not do anything.

Yes! When platelets get below 10k people can just start bleeding internally. My mother had a hemorrhagic stroke because hers were very very low and would not increase even with transfusions

I support my wife, who had breast cancer two times (and who supports me as well), I'm active in a local support group helping other cancer patients, I'm politically active in my town, I'm helping a small business owner researching clinical studies, I'm creating a small business around analogue large format portrait photography, I'm planning for an own KZbin channel, and, and, and ... It's not always easy because my immune system is heavily corrupted by the cancer and thus I need to be cautious and have to get a two-hour infusion every week. The chemos, radiation and stem cell transplantation have resulted in a severe case of chronic fatigue, the main reason why I cannot work full-time anymore. I cannot move much because the cancer has, among other effects, fractured my spine four times (and broken six rips). But all that does not stop me from thoroughly enjoying my life.

@@Dahrenhorst that is absolutely beautiful. Everyone's body will fail eventually. Some sooner than others but it doesn't matter how long we are here. What matters is how we live our lives, how we feel in our lives, and how we help others feel. That sounds very cliche but I know how true it is. I have severe depression and I get suicidal and I have been near death. Your deepest subconscious or some might say it's your spirit speaks to you when you get to that place. It tells you what is important in this life. And you are confronted with the choices that you have made and the effort that you have or have not put forth. I think that when you come to that place you won't have regrets.

I moved 250 miles away when I was about to turn 21, then at nearing 28 I moved back home to my hometown but having my own home, in the same neighborhood as where my parents live (and where I grew up) almost 1,5 years ago now I moved within the neighborhood (due to renovation work approaching where I lived before) and now live in the next building from my parents who still live in my childhood home, it’s so nice to live close to each other without living with each other, especially now during the pandemic when my parents and I have been able to socialize as a family through the whole pandemic as we made a very tight social bubble with each other from the beginning. I’m 35 now, approaching 36 and have always had a great relationship with my parents and we help each other a lot too.

I lived at home until I was 28, I’ve been living on my own for a year now and I love it but I also loved living at home.. I still go home almost every weekend and spend that night there but I couldn’t imagine moving back in with my mom and brother again haha.

I really think it‘s a cultural thing. For example I grew up in Germany and moved out of my family home when I was 19. 😅 and all of my friends, cousins, etc. also moved out between the ages of 18 and 21. But my parents are still there for me no matter what and we have a great relationship

Keeping a positive attitude is sooo important. I was disabled 21 years ago by 2 different surgeons. Most of the ppl with my condition are bed ridden. By the grace of God and a positive attitude I'm mobile thus far. Never give up.

Maybe not because of our different lifestyles in the first place, but mainly because they are my parents, and I'll always be their child for them (and I'm 20 years older than you! ) - it's difficult to get out of or not fall back into certain behaviour patterns then, I think for both sides. And I feel much more independent when I'm on my own, which does feel healthier and better for me.

@@ccxcxz4377 Well, I can not speak for everyone else, just for me, but yes: for me, that is not an option. I just notice that when I visit my parents for a few days during christmas holidays, for example, it already starts to feel uncomfortable at some point and I am glad when I'm back home again.

@@honeyoyinfalola6870 I would express bad or uncomfortable feelings in general, and I do so from time to time. Like when there's a conflict or I have a problem with what somebody says or how he (or she) behaves. I do not feel uncomfortable in general with my parents, I love them and I like to spend time with them. So what I said in my comment before sounded worse than it is. Maybe there are times when being together with my parents for a longer time, say a few days or so, is okay and feels good. But again and again there are times when I need distance from them. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But that's an issue that I personally have with myself and my parents, and I am sure it's not a problem for evereyone else.

oh gosh, I get the not living with my parents anymore sooo much. I feel you - I really love my parents, but our lifestyles don't fit anymore. Recently, I stayed with them for quite some time due to Covid because I live alone and it was rough at times, just because we developed differently 😁 mentally, I also need time away from them despite the fact we deeply love each other. Also, it is super common for young adults in Europe to be living by themselves. You go girl, wish you all the best 😊

Because she is an adult. There comes a time when your parents are no longer in a parenting role. There comes a time when your parents reclaim their lives, and you are no longer the whole of their world. Because for some people the hardest times are when they rely on themselves the most; their friends, and yes, their parents...but mostly themselves. Her parents are not there because she doesn’t want them there, because she’s a grown up. Don’t assume your need level is the same as Romee, and don’t assume her parents don’t care enough.

My daughter is chronically ill and still lives at home as an adult. We have given her space and freedom to be an adult. She needs the support of her family as her future is very unknown. I’m with her at every appointment and take copious notes. I brought her into this world but I will not give upon her. I couldn’t have one moment of rest if she didn’t have someone to support and watch her throughout the day.Drs have stated she cannot be left alone. This is our battle and we will take it on for as long as it takes to find answers.

You truly inspire me Romee. Keep living your life to the fullest. You are a champion and with your determination and positive attitude you will beat cancer. My son is also 24. He had Hodgkins Lymphoma and went through chemo and a stem cell transplant. He is in remission for two years and has completed his 4 year honours degree in computer science last month and he also wrote a thesis as well. His overall percentage is 84 %. He starts his full time job in July of this year. He is living with us now until he saves enough money to move out. Like you, he likes to be independent and I'm sure he won't be staying with us too long. Stay strong. I am rooting for you!! Big hugs from Toronto Canada.

I wish I was as brave as you!!!! I have been an open book about my cancer with family and my FB family..or antone who asks. I am from Charlotte Fla. USA and I am 70 years old. I learned I had colon and liver cancer in August of 2015. It was at stage 4 when it was found. I have been on chemo in one form or another, ever since. I have had transfusions due to low platelets and low blood counts. Thank to the love and support from people like you. Friends and family who have meant the world to me. I am 26 and had to move back in with my parent's and it has been hard on all of us. Unfortunately, I have spent a lot of time in the hospital last year and accrued some nasty medical medical bills and have ongoing medical problems. That is the only reason I live with them. They are super supportive but it has caused some issues and I constantly feel guilt and shame of on living with and relying on them at my age. I really respect that you are making it on your own and are not dependent on your parent's. You are so strong and you have the support you need when you need it. Keep going strong beautiful lady 💜

I guess (and hope) that this is not so difficult in the Netherlands so this helps young people in the Netherlands to stay independend also as a student. I get it, when I was 20 I became very unwell/ disabled and needed my Mother to care for my personal care needs. My parents were amazing but my mental health suffered, I had to dissociate and kind of mentally resort to the role of a child to cope. I was mentally so much stronger when I left home and was on my own two feet metaphorically. My fiance (who I met 5months after becoming unwell) would help when I would have a relapse and he is my husband now and still is amazing! When you are unwell as in the literal care of your parents the roles do resort back to that of a child and a parent. That never happens in a relationship - I'm still a wife, Mother and partner and it's much healthier. I'm so happy that you have a budding romance to keep you smiling and keep your mind off your health!

So glad I stumbled on one of your videos, Romee. So glad you have a good support system of friends and family! Your strength and positivity are so impressive and when I think of the load of drugs that you get in treatment, it blows me away. I've been on and off brentuximab for a few years for a treatable but incurable (and very rare) cancer and even though I only get it every 3 weeks, it really kicks me at times. Maybe being almost 76 has something to do with it possibly? In my head I'm half that age but the rest of me knows it's a lie, LOL! Be well, stay strong and please keep posting as you feel able.

I’m glad you got checked out with the petechiae (blood spots) and epistaxis (bloody noses). I also thought oh gosh, with your platelets but was glad to see all the comments by the time I watched it and that you were going to be checked out. It hit me hard knowing you got a transfusion as I started donating blood the beginning of this year and here in the US the Red Cross where I go asked me to donate Platelets instead if I could due to need and my blood type and being CMV Negative. I have donated 6 times since March and plan to donate twice a month as I am able, for people just like you Romee 😊❤️🩸

Romme your one amazing 24 year old woman. I love watching and listening to you and want you to know you really inspire me a 47 year old disabled woman.. I never even thought about. My behaviour when I stay at my parents opposed to staying in my own home. Yes i think when i stay at my moms i regress to that little girl again yet covid has provid to me i can cope with all the health issues that have cropped up on my own and i push through the pain etc a lit better when I'm alone. I can't believe people were asking about the "situation" with your parents!! I have been watching your videos since your diagnosis and I remember them being in several of them even if it was just their voice in the background. Her English is excellent although I would say her accent is more American than English. In my experience most Dutch people speak perfect English without strong accents or at least the ones I met. And as Romee says they grow up watching American TV. People from Northern European countries speak great English and the more south you go the worse the English gets like Italy and Spain etc.

You are totally right staying by yourself. In Europe it's anyway more common that young people with age 20 more or less leave there parents home and stay by themselves. every parents aim is having kids they are independent and able to manage their own life. Wish you good health :-*
