Honestly probably the most underrated show ever. Don't think it really found an audience here in the UK but I watched the show from day 1 and absolutely loved it
@MaRi-zp9zk2 жыл бұрын
Didn’t know it wasn’t that big in the UK, such a great show, very rarely they run the show that prioritizes the storytelling over the number of seasons to just make as much money as they possibly can, the shows that are like this one are very rare unfortunately. The acting was amazing from beginning to end. Ur right it didn’t receive as much praise as it clearly deserved, maybe it was the genre, because the people that did watch it, always ALWAYS loved it from beginning to end
@Elias62332 жыл бұрын
There is a wonderful three seasons series inside this convoluted 5 seasons series. It took them fucking forever to get to the meat of the matter (Norman being fucking nuts). First three seasons moved at a snail's pace and they added such unimportant plots and characters to the story, no wonder it wasn't that hyped. You can skip seasons 2 and 3 without missing anything we don't get on all the other ones.

@@chandlerrose4545 within the narrative, by the end of it, Alex was lost. He was a powerless character with no sense of self. He was just another tragic powerless victim of Norman. I said this in another video, but the Bates ran this down. Norman and his mother were a whirlpool of death and destruction that sucked in anyone who got close, except for Emma and Dylan. Romero was somewhat irredeemable, which justified his death. But the entire point to this scene was that Norman lives, and he kills Alex. Norman had plot armor, because that's part of the story. Alex is simply another tragic character, who's shady cold life caught up to him. His attempt at experiencing love ended up killing him

Some here are saying that his death wasn't realistic, but playing back this scene I think I can understand it better. Romero wasn't thinking clearly to begin with. He was moved beyond the brink by Norma's death, and then to see her there as Norman talks about their relationship... That alone is heavy. And then, seeing her looking back up, all the while Romero knowing how sacrificial a love Norma had for her son... That really complicates things, and it's really hard to cut through that and simplify what you need to do in such a tragic situation.

He cared about killing Norman. He spent 5 years single-mindedly meditating his revenge. He had the time to process Norma's death. Or maybe you can read it as him realizing Norma wouldn't want him to kill her son when he saw her. Still, it felt contrived and out of character. Bad habit from Carlton Cuse.

@@sugardaddy4714 I think thing is while yes he had time to process the fact she was gone (it was 2 years they had sentenced him to 5 and denied his parole) he didn’t move past it. He had no family in a way. He’d long since lost his mother it probably didn’t help that she committed suicide and the whole town thought Norma did too. And he wasn’t close to his dad either. IMO it ate at him that he couldn’t protect her and that because he was gone he didn’t prevent her from being desecrated after her death hurt too, while he wanted revenge I think it was more of an issue of guilt driving him. It wasn’t so surprising that Romero died the way he did here; he was shattered beyond repair by Norma’s death and basically had a murder-suicide wish (I firmly believe he would have killed himself after murdering Norman). He beat the shit out of Norman but seeing Norma’s corpse and facing the tragic reality overwhelmed him with total grief, as a result his guard was down. But I don’t think he was all to upset at not getting to kill Norman in the end because at that point he was just filled with anguish over the fact that Norman murdered his mother who loved him beyond belief and the woman who Romero loved beyond belief. Death was his release from all that pain, much like Norman’s was. But of course, this is ultimately Norman’s story and so naturally he needed to be given an emotionally cathartic death and being killed by Romero would’ve been a disservice to that. Unfortunately, Romero died alone but at least some of his last words were a pledge of his love for her. I’d like to think that he was reunited with Norma in an afterlife. Yes, I know people would argue that Norma “chose” Norman and is spending eternity with him but the fact is she loved both of them, and why should she be bound by the earthly pain of having to “choose” like she did when she was alive? If we’re all souls and infinite consciousness then there’s no reason why she shouldn’t be reunited with both of them free from mortal jealousy and possessiveness. Only the happiness and peace of being entwined with the son and husband she loved.

Totally agree. I feel that Norman in the films was somewhat sympathetic. Norman in the show (for the last 2 seasons as he descended further into madness) was immature and maddeningly annoying, which fits perfectly with the fact he’s a teen/early 20’s. It was pretty satisfying to me when Romero pistol whipped him in the car for being a smart ass, and then beat the shit out of him by Norma’s body. In the end, both he and Romero suffered cathartic deaths, releasing them from the anguish they had been suffering.

Everything you said seems to be based on the premise that all that earthly pain, jealous, possessiveness and whatnot doesn't seep into the "afterlife" along with the positive stuff of happiness and peace. Why wouldn't the pain carry along with him to whatever place Romero's ending up after death (which in all sense would most likely be Hell if you're talking afterlives considering the awful acts he's committed over the series)? Honestly can't see why 74 people like this nonsense. It makes no sense from any basis. Just a lot of flowery feel good wording.

Romero didn't handle this very well at all , Norman is obviously completely unhinged at this point this was never going to end well for either of them. Also love the music at the end there!

I think he wanted it at this point, if you watch closely, as Norman is waking up behind him he closes his eyes and tilts his head down…I think he was just hoping Norman was strong enough to brain him with one go.

This is so sad. S5 tries so hard to make Alex out to be the villain but he truly loved Norma, I wish they had more time together but the show ended at a good pace without going on for too long

Norma was a good mom for the most part like giving him food and shelter then again she wasn't she was to smothering & controlling making Norman stay locked Inside telling him not to go anywhere while she went out sleeping with guys and telling him he can't have sex with girls she turned him into a woman he thought he was Norma in reality he was Norman because she was controlling him so much it made him have a split personality witch he thought he was his own mother he thought Norma was doing the killings and trying to put it on him it's like they were so drawn together the only way to split them apart is for both of them to die together!

If you've seen the acts he pulled in the series you would know he was a crooked cop, a murderer, and a felon who deserved every rotten deed he inflicted on others. Don't know why people keep glossing over all that. Norman, Romero, and Norma were all garbage people who committed awful deeds. If they haven't earned death, what does it take?

Always like mother and son Norma What the need of marriage at this point by Raising his own son so closely that he can’t believe to be away from her he can’t survive without her when she married Romero he thought he was betrayed and replaced by his new dad Norman can’t be blamed for all this Norma could have lived with his son by treating him in good hospital and taking care of him instead of give a chance to third person between them if Romero doesn’t have come between them this could have never happen everybody will be happy 😃 this is all Norma s fault but still can’t blame her for all this but it can be avoided if she had acted wisely by not marrying Alex Very Tragic story 😔 iwill be happpy if the creator produces another series on bates motel like Rebirth of Mother and son Norma and Norman With happy ending Please like if you people agree with me Thank you

Romero was also a questionable character. I thought. Norman has an illness and has murdered people among his blackouts, especially his beloved mother Romero has also killed people time and time again. I found it a little strange from Romeo that he knows Norman is sick and instead of trying to help him somehow he was out for revenge. I mean, of course, he loved Norma and wanted to do the math, but I always asked Romero whether he was better than Norman himself? Because he said right before his death for what Norman did he should go to prison and what about him?
@boscovilante40683 жыл бұрын
Romero went mad because his last encounter with Norma was acrimonious. Romero simply behaved in a way that kept an uneasy peace that kept mostly everyone alive. He only broke that peace when he went to bat for Norma. Romero isn't behaving rationally at all after he broke out of the clink - like Norman he just wanted to see her body again.

Am I the only one who thinks Alex Romero should get its own spin-off? I know he is dead but in an alterative universe where he and norma put Norman in Pineview foever but Romero still has enemies in town and drug buss.. Imagine if Alex Romero and Walter White together omg...

@danielbarrera83914 жыл бұрын
I seriously could not stand Romero, he was a hypocrite to the max. If anything he was much 'worse' than what he thought of Norman as. Norman had a seriously fucked up childhood and painful experiences which were the source of his amnesia episodes/breaks. Romero? Romero does everything he does in cold blooded conscience. Regardless of how people might want to spin it, he is just as much a killer as any murderer is. His rage is very similar in that he believes he's doing something 'right'. It's easy for him to convince himself that it's okay since he has a badge, but that would just show just how much more screwy it is. It also demonstrates that power is a dangerous and destructive thing in the right (or wrong?) hands.
@mysterysunfurled3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I dont get why people like him. Also he shouldn't have played the jealousy game with Norman, Alex could have been the bigger person there
@terrortower6662 жыл бұрын
Romero killed drug pushers, corrupt political figures, enslavement rings and other folk that were incredibly dangerous. Norman killed mostly innocent or indefensible people due to his mental illness. The difference is Romero is a saviour and Norman was a deranged, psychotic serial killer. Alex had morals, Norman had none but that wasn’t his fault
@ResidentReveler3 жыл бұрын
Pretty bad writing here. - Norman develops adamantium skull. - Romero forgets all his training.
@PLLittleMama20073 жыл бұрын
Norman was only punched a few times. Not enough to kill him or keep him down for long. Romero was grieving for Norma and underestimated Norman. Made sense to me.
@lucasdamotta3 жыл бұрын
@@PLLittleMama2007 Sorry bro, it doesn't. A man like Romero beats the head of a boy like Norman that way, and he might never talk and walk again for months or even forever. Here, bag of bones Norman simply wakes up like nothing happened one fucking minute later and has the strenght to hit Romero hard four times? I don't think so. When Norman hits Dylan with the glass he is in the ground and can barely stay awake. Here all the realism is just washed away for convenience. It's bad, really bad.
