Finally after living in Rome for over 20 years I have been able to see inside the Farnese Palace thanks to you. The courtyard is amazing and I never new about the creation of the Via Dei Baullari. Thanks for the tidbit.

Grazie! Barry and I were staying at a wonderful (though up 77 steps) apartment with a roof terrace that looked out onto the Piazza Farnese in September of 2015. Our first nights there we didn't know why there were lines of people day and night waiting to go into the Palazzo. Each night when we watched the lines we wondered but were too tired from the day of experiencing Roma to go down to find out. Darn! We later learned that the restoration of the Caracci Galleria had been completed and the Palazzo was open with no entrance fee, no reservations required. Sigh.

Ah yes, I remember that! It was amazing. But you can still visit this Palazzo even now! Unfortunately they have just put a huge scaffolding all around the outside for what will likely be a several-year restoration. But the inside is marvellous and a must! I hope you and Barry will come back and visit it. You may also enjoy my video about Palazzo Colonna!

Planning 50th wedding anniversary trip to Europe, last stop 8 days at the Hotel Residenza in Farnese. Thank you for the encouragement (Jan. 2021). It's the dream of planning that I enjoy 'almost' as much as the trip. Sad that we won't get to Rome until Oct. 11th.

definitely one of the most beautiful palazzo in rome..unfortunately it still houses the french embassy (and if I am not wrong they pay 1euro/per year )
@Romewise6 жыл бұрын
Yes it is the French embassy, and yes, they pay France 1€ per year to lease it. In return, Italy pays France 1€ per year to lease their embassy building in Paris. In any case, anyone can visit Palazzo Farnese, but it takes a little planning ahead. :)

why unfortunately, it is better it's still in use than being a museum

One of the most beautiful palaces in Rome...as embassy of France France would never let the embassy of italy to stay in a palace like this...( maybe because France has no PALACES as beautiful as this palace is😁😁😁💪) Another example: one of the most important and Ancient square of Rome...named PIAZZA DI SPAGNA 😱🤣🤣🤣SPAIN SQUARE THE REASON IS THAT EVERY PLACE IN ROME IS A PIECE OF ART...BUT...God...we as italians have not the right pride Abroad the most important places would never be called ITALY'S SQUARE OR EMBASSY OF ITALY...NEVER ITALY IS SO GENEROUS

Italy is very generous indeed!

What a stupid and ignorant comment. The italian embassy in France is situated in the gorgeous Hôtel de Boisgelin in Paris : a neoclassic masterpiece and, of course, a historical monument. You don't have enough pride? haha you literally are being condescending towards another country...

There is no point wondering if France would let Italy stay in a palace like that since, as you wrote, there is no palace like this in France 🙂 Or else, ask the question differently : would France let Italy stay in a palace as such as Farnese if such a palace existed in Paris ? And the answer would necessarily be : nobody knows and nobody can say… Whatever, you are right : there are very few places outside Italy that can compare with Italian palaces of the XVI° century and before. They are truly stunning and magnificent. Italy is covered with work of art.
