I still have some of the old Ambassadeur reels myself. I notice their value fluctuate, probably depending on demand at any particular time. There are certainly some passionate Abu Garcia collectors out there.

to fish a sailfish actually what is minimum recommende pundage line on how long minimum line needed? is 200meter okay?

7000 series are work horses in the ocean. I always bring mine out with my avets when I go.

I don't know about the cost, Chris. My guest from Australia brought it with him. I'd guess they'd not cost over $300 together.

Hi Hugo, yes only right hand wind. The Abu Ambassadeur reel is a fairly old model by the way. There’re quite a lot of fans who collect the range around the world.

Doesn't that abu only have 20lbs of drag?

Not sure about the exact drag poundage on this reel but thumbing was required. Not the kind of reels we'd recommend for sailfish fishing.

40-50 pound and 300 meters mainline is a good setup. Click on the link under "About" above - SportFishin (dot) Asia - there are many posts about sailfish fishing.

Mark I it depends on the type of fishing you’re doing. I guess 20-30lb line will cover most fishing
