If I was to go in there, it would only be to experience the Mountain, the trails, some of the landmarks of the history, not to find the mine. I would think, by now, if it, “the lost dutchman mine”..is or ever was there, it has been found and played out. Great stories to hear or read about, if one likes the tales of the old west. Thanks for this 🤠

Jacob Waltz brought home very little gold because he knew he couldn't protect it while he was gone. Jacob Waltz did have gold with him when he was sick and in his last months of life because he knew the lady that was taking care of him would not let anyone in his room to see him unless he wanted to talk to them. The gold in the candle box was intended for the lady that looked after of him in his final days. Jacob Waltz took gold to Florence Arizona three times to mail to his sister in St. Louis Missouri, because he didn't want people in Phoenix Arizona to know how much gold he had. Jacob never went to Florence Arizona then to the mine because it was to wide open space and could be spotted easily for anyone that wanted to follow him to where ever he was going. Jacob Waltz did work his mine and protect his mine but that was after three years after he found it. When Jacob knew he was getting to old to protect his mine he sealed the mine shut with ironwood logs and surrounding rock. After Jacob Waltz was shot with a Apache arrow behind the left shoulder the Apaches thought they had killed him. If and when Jacob Waltz did go to the mine if any Apache's had seen him they would be inclined not to bother him because they probably thought this man can't be killed. Apache Indians were very superstitious. Gold ore on the east side is not the Dutchman's ore. It's not pure enough, don't get me wrong it's pure gold, but its not mesothermal gold. There's where the difference is. Mr. Feldman wants to sell his book. Jacob Waltz gold is only mesothermal gold. When I first started looking for the Jacob Waltz mine I never bought or read any books about the lost Dutchman's mine because I didn't want to be influenced by a writer that solely wanted to make a buck off his book or books. The only way to learn is to buy really good athletic shoes with inserts and walk back in there with a gallon of water. Looking at google earth is not the same as being in there in person. Things look totally different in person. It's a huge area.

1) Mine: Go to Angel Springs and look South West. It's there. 2) Dutch has three cache's: two small and one large. 1 small one was under his bed. Where are the other two? 3) Where no miner would find. Somewhere between the Board House and the Mine.

Listen to Ron Feldman and you will know the truth. I spent several vacations in the Superstitions during the early 1980's and into the '90s. I determined in 1998 that the Lost Dutchman Mine was located in an eastern canyon that contained THE "Cave with a House". I retired early (2000) from a great job in Alaska to hunt that canyon full time. After selling, moving down to Gold Canyon and preparing for the search I picked up a local newspaper concerning Mr. Feldman and his find in that very canyon. Talk about disappointment! But I am satisfied that I actually, without help, narrowed down the LDM to a very specific and correct canyon. Over time I have met Ron a couple of times and will say that he is a very nice man......so good for him. On a side issue, I did accompany several members of the Historical Society to the massacre grounds some years back and pointed out a rock formation that might contain a little gold. The group leader did a little digging and found two small gold nuggets....residue from a grinding area. Hunting the Dutchman has been a great avocation. I wonder what else the Mountain might contain?

The area with the "cave with a house" might be one I came across in the Peter's/Pistol Canyon area, with a very interesting prospect/cave directly across from it on the canyon wall. This is the area Walt Gassler focused on.

If you want to know where the Lost Dutchman Mine is, watch Jack San Felice's video titled "The Original Lost Dutchman Story by PC Bicknell". Listen to to that story very closely and Jack will tell you where the mine is, but will never come out and say it directly, I admire that. Ron Feldman and his son both know Jack San Felice and I believe Ron (here) and Jack are talking about the same mine that Jack describes in his video that I'm recommending. Jack refers to it as the "Pit Mine" and a friend of Jack's referred to it as the "Generator Mine." Best, Sig

He's right about Magill being a crook. My grandfather is the guy who appeared in Gentry's book under the alias "Jim Miller" and all the "info" for that book came straight from Magill. Magill never drew on Baker because Baker was trying to take Magill's water, according to Baker and the other guys who were there, Magill would drink all his water then try to get it from the other guys the few times he was actually in the mountains. Only the non dramatic stuff in the book is real. Nevertheless, my grandfather and then father were still convinced there was something there and continued to go there until each one died. I've been there many times and although it may have produced something at one time, I don't believe there is anything there now. So many other possibilities out there...

It’s interesting to compare Ron’s remarks here with his input about the relocation of Adolph Ruth’s body and the local rancher’s conspiracy to discourage prospecting on the east side of the Superstitions. In that video, he suggested that Jack Frasier “probably cleaned the mine out,” because he, like some other locals, knew where it was. I’m assuming that Frasier, Barkley, and others must have some connection to the multiple coroner’s inquests that seem to have suppressed the facts about the mysterious killings in the region that occurred through the 1950s. I haven’t read Ron’s books, but I have to wonder if the big conclusion is that, while treasures might still exist in the Superstitions in connection with old Peralta digs, the LDM was emptied of most riches back in the 1930s.

According to one story the dutchman said there's enough gold in plain view inside the mine to make 10 or 20 men millionaires, and that was at $20.67/ ounce. A gold vein that rich doesn't just pinch out all at once unless the vein is faulted. Even then it's fairly rare that a faulted vein isn't picked up again. If that much gold came out of the Superstitions, you can bet you would have heard of it. I'll bet the ore's still in the mine because nobody's found the right hole yet.

The part about the geology sounds right. But nobody would leave Phoenix to go to the central area of the Superstitions by way of Florence. If you could take a train to Superior, via Florence, that's a possibility. But it doesn't appear that a rail line ever went through Florence between Phoenix and Superior. You'd go out of the way to go to Florence. And even Superior is not the best place to start walking from. You'd end up walking over 7 miles back west along the tracks to get to the best place to start going into the mountains. Otherwise, this guy sounds more credible than most of the other people I've heard on this subject.

The old trails appear on old topo maps. To go to superior or the "east" supes you just took the trail from Mesa town to Buchanan ranch (signal butte and guadalupe) and then head ESE towards what is now called "Desert wells multi-use recreational area" and on to queen valley or north/north east into the supes.

Is it true that the old Dutchman had an Indian wife and just before he died, he told her there was some gold under his bed. I saw a show on TV supposedly True Stories of The West!
@CharlieLeSueurHollywoodTrail
@CharlieLeSueurHollywoodTrail 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Susan. The woman you're referring to was Julia Thomas who owned a confection shop in downtown Phoenix. Many articles have described her as of mixed race of white and African American, not indian. There was indeed gold under his bed and a matchbox was made from some of that gold. The matchbox is in a private collection that is very secret and only known by a chosen few who refuse to tell its whereabouts. There is, however, a famous photo of the matchbox on display at the Superstition Mountain Museum as well as on the cover of Helen Corbin's book, "The Curse of the Dutchman's Gold." It's also featured in our videos concerning Jacob Waltz.

Ron has most of his fact in order ,and I agree Waltz only went to the mine 5 or 6 times . but the real question is was the mine in fact a treasure hidden by the Jesuit's , did have a mine ...out right yes! and the bed side confession did say he did not kill his partner ..,but a lot of the clues were here say and few had any logical base and lot was just past around to confuse others ... the problem with a lot of the Dutch hunters is they had no real map training whatsoever .. and I was a Navy Quartermaster train in maps and updating charts ... I did not go back for a good reason .I had a threat on my life ,and I reported it and left a lot of what I learned in my notes and walked away .sorry Ron i do in fact have ore from the LDM vein ..as far as the caches go yes there is a logical reason for Waltz to have made them , but that depends on what variation of the legend you isolate . yes i found the mine in 2006 ....i hope someday to be able to afford to go back and open the mine ,i have been a dutch hunter for more than 55 years now and i don't make videos or seek attention .sometimes the truth is hidden well in what people don't say ! my brother had a bad heart attack in the mountains on expedition 5 and spent the next 7 years dying from that event . the sad truth is you are correct those mountains wait for the weak and the foolish ..

Where is the beef? Or shall we say, where is the gold? I have been a prospector for years. To find gold, first, I went to where gold was likely to be found. I suspect the "gold" of the Superstitions is all the endless baloney that is sold on the topic.

@Hank Sheffer The Superstitions are beautiful mountains- one of a kind in some ways. The fact that they are not the best gold hunting country does not make them less beautiful. How much gold is being produced anywhere in the Superstitions? Thousands of people have combed the Superstitions to no avail. I did not want to be one of them, so I never prospected in the Superstitions, especially since the geology does not seem conducive to finding gold. I actually lived in the shadow of the Superstitions and really enjoyed the view. I am sure I could have generated some good tales out of the place, but all I generated was some great photos. Instead, I prospected in some counties in Nevada that are currently some of the highest producers in the country. I have no tales of intrigue to tell, just boring research and work, countless failures and eventually, locating some viable claims. The skills of a good geologist are priceless, as are good 4 wheel drives, good research and good testing equipment. We have over 600 acres of claims, both gold and sulfide and oxide silver ores in the mix some of which have been drilled extensively. I don't have to worry about "Being a prospector" at this point- it's just a business and not an easy one.

Ok Ron Feldman. Here's a point I need to make since it's fresh in my mind. I was reading a story on Jacob Waltz and where he was staying while he was mining the LDGM. In a book from the 1920's that was written about Jacob and the Lost mine There was this little building or house in the Mountains where Jacob would frequent and stay at. From that house Jacob would walk to the mine directly from there. Does anyone know where this little building or house is in mountains that the information is talking about??? I think the mine is directly a straight shot from that house or building. Can anyone relate this information to me about the house. I think the Dutchman's mine was cleaned out years ago due to soo many people being up there looking for it. But here''s my favorite Treasure story. The Lost Rhodes Mine that's west of Vernal Utah. You think following the LDGM is a big deal try looking for that Mine in Utah. It's free and the government isn't going to tell you that you can't dig on it because you can. Oh and by some miracle that you do find it theres alot of gold there waiting to be found.
