I had a shattered heel that was fixed with pins when I was younger and the pain after that surgery was fucking unbearable (after I got home from the hospital), but I'm sure an appendix operation hurts a shitload more. Real pain is no joke, though. There's no frame of reference for it; it's just completely overwhelming.

I had a stool come out sideways once, it was like being electrocuted and shot at the same. Fell flat on my face and woke up in hospital with a face full of broken teeth and I took the meds by the litre bag. Couldn't move for a good month.

I was in the hospital FOR WEEKS at the age of eight after having my appendectomy with the reason being, according to my mother, that they left the incision open too long and it got infected. I had what was apparently a particularly large appendix which resulted in a ten-stitch incision. Also, this was at New Orleans' Charity Hospital, not some private room, more accommodating sort of place.
