Dave was the de facto co-host because Fez went silent. There were threads on the Ron & Fez boards about how much Dave was on the air--not realizing that he was filling an essential role for Ron to play off. He was being paid less than 40k a year to do the job of a guy making six figures ON TOP of his producer responsibilities.

Dave was just a chump. Too preoccupied with being a stunt boy on the radio than building a future for his family. Even Pepper the Junkie managed to hold on and make a career for himself. This is an industry that's notorious for using people and the spitting them out. Just look at how many people on Howard Stern tons of material contributed only to get screwed in the end. Dave was an irresponsible idiot who didn't take anything seriously and that bit him hard in the end. Same thing happened in his marriage.
