When the f has hack colbert defended the free press!?
@robvangessel37662 жыл бұрын
Eons ago, methods of straightout censorship was the standard way to shut down news. After the 1990s - esp. in the wake of Bill Clinton deregulating the telecommunications industry - they found a more ingenious way around that by transforming hard news into opinion journalism, competing for viewer ratings rather than information the public needed to know, and then muddling facts with pure propaganda to the point where the truth gets stifled by denialism and ignorance. (The obvious danger being that if the public doesn't know what's true or false, it can't make a judgment abt what to do for its own long-term survival. Like the Flint water crisis, for ex.). It opened a setting that let autocrat wannabes like Trump using a fake news banner on everything and anything, while at the same time catering to Klanster white supremacists and conspiracy theory cults like QAnon. This disseminating of hard news journalism - where no disclaimer is required before a punditry show to remind viewers that it's steered by opinion, not news reporting - is singularly - probably - the main wrecking ball to democracy.

Colbert defends free press? Really? Where is he documented as defending Julian Assange? Why do all the mainstream media outlets have the same opinion? Nah, Colbert is the perfect example of an establishment shill who simply blames an ex-POTUS for everything and blindly supports the current administration despite their indifference to a free press as well. What is being criticized here - people wanting to only read/listen to media that supports their personal political view - works both ways. I thought Farrow was different - my reason for even watching this video - but maybe not.

He brings up a good point. Whether a journalist is left-wing or right-wing, they're supposed to base their opinions on fact -- the same set of facts. Which reminds me of one time a conservative British journalist interviewed Ben Shapiro, and Shapiro ended up taking off his mic and leaving because he thought the questions were slanted to the left. Shapiro is all about spin, not facts.
@Rnankn2 жыл бұрын
In fairness, there is a complete failure to distinguish between hard facts and social facts. Gravity is a hard fact, but borders are social facts. We invented them. Yet hard facts can be interpreted. The man sitting on a chair could be a king on his throne, or a hillbilly on the toilet. It’s context, and values of the viewer that bring the meaning. But then social facts, once adopted as shared reality can be real consequences. Race isn’t real, and the categories are arbitrary. Yet, race and by extension racism, are extremely real in their consequences. That alter the trajectory of a life, and form the basis of identity and self-understanding. Republicans engagement with facts is emotionally charged, not intellectually curious. They don’t ask questions, they make accusations. Instead of explaining their reasoning, or evaluating a conclusion, they define their position in opposition.

Scientific facts cannot be changed based upon people’s beliefs or actions. Conversely, “social facts” or facts that exist because people created the fact (like a border) can be changed. To be clear, both categories are facts at any given time, but one category of facts can be changed by peiple while the other category of facts are absolute The US southern border as it exists today is a fact, but it didn’t aleays exist as a fsct in the past and it can exist differently or not at all in the future. There is the issue right there you think "I am not going to buy a news paper that doesn't reflect my views" is the same and read. What kind of for profit company makes papers that won't sell to the demographic they are trying to sell to? Is this why the papers are all closing down cause they have gone and picked random demographics and winged it. Demographic marketing is a part of sales.

For people refusing to use journalism because the journalism doesn't reflect their views is contradictive to the whole notion of reporting. Reporters are to report the facts as they are whether you agree with the views shown with the facts or not. Rejecting news merely because they don't make you feel comfortable is the very definition of uninformed, naive and arrogant. Yes bias in reporting is rampant and extreme. Fox and CNN are perfect examples.. but you can't develop your own intelligible view, without learning what others say. People need to stop treating life and politics like its an "Us vs The Team We Hate." Find the fucking middle ground.

The thing is, when even the "middle ground" still hates women, it's tough to want to be there.
@lesd10512 жыл бұрын
"Find the f___g middle ground" - yes, absolutely. I have many friends who are independents or like some boards of both platforms; right and left. What about them? They are just as relevant and worthy as a straight left or right party line. It makes me nuts that our representatives think that we are all one or another way....there are many shades of gray out there.
@mikotomisaka87142 жыл бұрын
@@jennyonthespectrum4581 you have anything to back that up? I'm a woman and those on the middle ground don't give me any hate, in fact they support abortion for parents who know they will have disabled children, or whose lives are in danger or have been raped. Plenty of them don't think abortion should be an option for parents who willingly had sex knowing there might be consequences and merely have abortion as a factor of convenience.. its an entire complicated argument which I won't get into on a KZbin comment, but half of them are women and those who are men support Legal abortion... In case you don't know, the Middle Ground solution IS legal Abortion because it prevents those who would have abortions either way from doing it in an unsafe and dangerous way. Its the same logic as Safe Needle programs. You don't know what the middle ground is and there are varying degrees of it. the definition of the middle ground are both sides coming to an understanding and an ability to see perspectives from both sides... if you're saying "The middle ground hates women" then you have no idea what the middle ground is.
@JustJanitor2 жыл бұрын
How do you find middle ground when one side wants things like Medicare for all an the other side wants to eliminate gay people and over throw democracy? What about the right wing justices over turning roe Wade, next is the right to contraception, gay marriage. I mean what the hell.
@mikotomisaka87142 жыл бұрын
@@JustJanitor You're only looking at the extreme right wing.. because you're one of those people who just wants an enemy to be united against so you can say "yeah go team". if one day one of those right wing people said something reasonable, chances are you wouldn't even be willing to hear them out, because you like hating them. And I understand that. I LOVE hating Donald Trump. he's so fun to despise because of how fucking despicable he is. I love hearing Trump News reports about how dumb and shitty he is.. he's a gold mine of "Watch this dumbass fall on his head the loser". But in the end this also hinders me as an objective seeker of real information. Remember, Republicans are ashamed of the people in the Right wing office too. Nobody pays attention to THOSE republicans, especially Comedians, because there's no way to make a funny narrative or drama out of it. The middle ground is not entertaining enough for the likes of CNN, Fox and late night comedians like Stephen Colbert. The only comedian I've ever seen successfully pull out middle ground solutions and entertain us with them is John Oliver, but even then he's got bias and he himself TELLS us that as a reason to not regard his show as News or Journalism. ALSO by doing what you're doing, you BECOME the Right Magas as well. WHY do you think they believe these outrageous conspiracy theories? Because they say that the leftists are evil, and they love to believe that, just like we love to believe the Right is evil. All in all.. nobody likes the middle ground because it doesn't play like an entertaining Sports Rivalry. Nobody cares whose right or wrong, they just wanna turn up for their Team.. nobody wants to come an understanding or agreement and make peace.. we want to dominate our opponents and make them feel inferior to fill our egos. As much as you will deny it.. you can't escape this fact.. intrinsically.. within our VERY souls.. Pride runs Human Society.

Ah yes its willful ignorance when the paper is a commodity they have to pay for with their money. The answer is you need a non profit paper that is under public domain and not shareholder tied. Not make fun of the woman in the KZbin comments. Cause if you are selling something you need demographic marketing, because otherwise you printed a whole bunch of lost money. Like that is sales 101.
