Haha thanks everyone, this is my boy Alf and i'm very proud of him. My last 80 also had the 1HZ with Safari turbo set up and i wouldn't have it any other way. Fully recommend them. I've heard of a few people taking the factory turbos off the 1HDT and replacing them with the Safari Turbos. They are strong and tough as long as you don't go stupid boost and over rev them. Fully recommend it. You can feel the pulling power when you put in the K&N air filter and change the fuel filter too. Simple little things that make all the difference :) Oh and my daughter still drives Alf too ;)

Debs Benedetto Just a heads up Deb, to fix the pop rivets on the steps is about a 5 minute job and really easy to do. Just need some new rivets and a rivet gun which are inexpensive. I know rattles drive me mad too.

Ade, my insurance company covered me without a problem. I was honest and upfront and they knew everything i had on the vehicle. There was no problems and my new boy has the exact same gear (except this one has rear drawers) as my last one :) Lightbar on the roof has no problems with glare. It's like driving behind the sun. I painted my bonnet black on this one as the paint job on the bonnet was really bad and it was really peeing me off. My last 80 was a gold colour and the glare off the bonnet from the lightbar wasn't even that bad.

hi debs.Im Abe from perth. I love your 80 series modified. Learned so many things from your rig.Im planning to gradually upgrade my landy one step at a time coz i want to explore WA while my kids are still young. I have a 105 series GXL wagon 4,2 L non turbo and i want to fit a safari turbo like yours but i dont have any idea where to go to buy it. And also i want to change my full time 4x4 to a part time free wheeling hubs. But i thinks its hard to find the hubs for 105 series coz they have different splines. Im not sure on this. i tried E-bay. Can you please share me your inputs/ideas regarding my issues. I' ll love hearing from you soon, Planning also to have a suspension lift and new rims and mud tires. Soo many things to be done,, Thanks Debs!

I still can't figure out why people need roof racks on these when they pack so much kit in the back. I guess for long trips they may need it but for weekends, with seats out there's more than enough room for all your camping gear in the wagon cab
@hiteck0079 жыл бұрын
Yea In my research of engines the 1HZ isn't exactly a good choice. It's a pre-combustion motor & they aren't very efficient & become even less so with a Turbo which also makes them susceptible to overheating easily which in turn destroys the head and the bottom ends have to be modified to take the extra pressure from the turbo. The 1HD-T's on the other hand are good strong engines that are Direct Injection and are quite noticeably more efficient on fuel about 2 kms/ litre better on fuel, but you goto keep an eye on the bottom end as the bearings actually have to be changed out every 10,000 kms or it could throw a rod as my dad's did. My Cruiser has a 1HD-FT in it and this is the best engine Toyota ever made I believe, because it can take plenty of boost, it's Direct Injection, it's a 24 valve motor, they fixed the bottom end bearing issue, and best of all it gets excellent economy even with the tweaks. My tweaks are a large front mounted intercooler, Turbo boosted to 17 Psi (it's safe to boost them to 18Psi), the injector pumps fuel rack opened considerably but not passed the safe EGT limits of the head (which is 500 degrees C max, the intercooler took nearly 100 degrees off standard cruising temperature so theres more margin there for working it hard), i also put a Marks kit in so I'm not pushing the front diff around for no reason ( part time 4x4. that makes a big difference to the vehicles performance passed about 70 Kms/hr and noticeably better fuel economy too.) + many other things too.
@fairdinkumpiereviews53575 жыл бұрын
Change bearings every 10,000? Wtf. What I hear is if they had a fault it happened by 100,000 and once it's fixed it's fixed?

haha Altimeter (Al - Tee - Metre) to show how far above and below you are ;) If your below sea level I think you may have a slight water problem ;) (Ive got a 91 gxl 80 series similar but more nick nacks other than the turbo and fridge) Recent subscriber :) Like your vids

Top Clip Ronny! how reliable is an aftermarket Turbo on a 1hz? Reason i ask is, i've been dabbling with the idea of getting an aftermarket turbo in my 1997 80 Series which is stock standard with the 1hz. Any advise would be good. Thanks
@debsbenedetto95457 жыл бұрын
As long as you get your motor checked over, then there wouldn’t be a problem. Just sticking one on without getting it checked might cause you some problems.

This is a question for all you experienced 4wdrivers. I'm considering a 4.2 patrol or an 80 landcruiser. Which one has more flex and offroad capability of them both? Thanks guys
@debsbenedetto95457 жыл бұрын
Both of them are very capable vehicles off road/ Flex all depends on what suspension you put into it, as there are bucket loads of different set ups you can buy. You need to drive both of them and figure out which one you like to drive more and which one suits you more, plus you need to figure out what you want to do with it before buying one.
@adelarsen97769 жыл бұрын
1) When this vehicle loses control and causes an accident the insurance company will say that the vehicle was modified and became unsafe due to the split drive system. Unless of course it's fully approved and certified. 2) Light bar over the roof would make night driving a nightmare from glare.

Deb - your Toyota is set up very nicely and you would have to beat the American men off of you with a stick, as we don't have that many women who are passionate about off roading let alone have such an awesome 4x4 that does not belong to their husbands. Did they recently change the rules on lifts in Aust.? I thought that you could only do a maximum of 2". I love the Toy 80 series. They are getting harder to find here in the USA. I would love to live in Australia and travel around to see your beautiful country.
@debsbenedetto95457 жыл бұрын
Hi @Graeman , they have recently changed the ruling and now even a 2" lift needs to be engineered and comply with the new rules and regulations. To me personally, things are starting to get way out of hand where vehicles are concerned :/ Travelling and exploring is what i am now starting to do, 1 massive trip per year is what i'm aiming for, and so far have accomplished 2 in 2 years, and next year is the big Gibb River Rd trip :) Thank you for your lovely feedback, i do appreciate it :)
