I agree. it really comes down to a matter of preference I believe at this level. I personally find the round muscle bellies of PH more aesthetically pleasing. I also think PH's narrow waist/v taper is an advantage too. That being said, judging criteria on any particular year is another matter. Some years they seem to look for mass others they seem to look for Aesthetics. I suppose it can be argued that Ronnie was the more complete package... but again.. preference!

well not really, the lighting doesn't decide and pick between muscle groups. at 6:40 you can see the difference between Coleman's glutes and hamstrings and his upper body. Look at his back, it is much smoother and obviously holds water retention. Phil is dry ALL OVER, his lower back is much more conditioned than Ronnie's and his traps are visible from top to bottom.

What many people miss is that Ronnie’s rear lat spread isn’t done very well and it still is impressive with slabs of muscle everywhere even showing on his upper trap area. If you flare out like that vs the traditional rolling your shoulder blades in towards the front there is a distinct difference in how wide you look with the flaring toward the front giving you a much wider look. It is scary to think how Ronnie’s rear lat spread would have looked if done say like Phil’s. He would have probably had one of the best rear lat spreads of all time even challenging Dorians.

In almost every photo of Ronnie he has distracting background. Almost all of Phil's photos have a plain dark background which makes him stand out better. I expected Ronnie to blow Phil away, but I'm surprised at how thick and full Phil looks. For me Phil's worst "pose" is standing relaxed - truly relaxed, not flexing like he is at 0:40. He looks really narrow and soft, and - dare I say it - small - when truly relaxed. When he poses all hell breaks loose. On these photos alone Phil could win? His quality is better. You'd need to see this comparison on stage and in person. I don't think it's as cut and dried as most people are making out??

Phil can only win in photos because a tiny bit more condition but on stage he cant win Ronnie is like 40 pounds bigger hes taller and nearly as conditioned. Excellent observation! This is the major difference or weakness if you want to call it that. One of the main separating factors I believe. I find it so nitpicky at that point, but that's what judges are there to do. It's just something about the natural flow (genetics) of Heath's glutes that don't match or compare to ronnie's.
