Wow, can't believe this is on here! That's me in the audience (front row, second from the right, black T-shirt) with a couple of mates (the two dudes next to me in denim jackets). Us metal heads got to meet and talk with Dio after the interview then we went to the concert that night. Great memories! Rest in Peace, Ronnie James Dio.

I´m glad, that even a metal icon as Dio consider Scorpions Heavy Metal, many people still think that "The Scorps" are Hard Rock because they make many Hard Rock ballads, but if you know some about metal, you know the most of their stuff is HM, the early stuff like "In Trance", "Lovedrive", "Taken by Force" or "Blackout" are Heavy Metal masterpieces....

Kickerpunter - You may know by now, but in case you don’t, Intermission is a 6-song, mostly live EP the band put out as a way of introducing Craig Goldy as Vivian Campbell’s replacement. It includes one studio track, written by Ronnie and Craig, called Time to Burn. It was released in the middle of the Sacred Heart tour. Horns up, brother!

Thanks for that. I didn't see it way back then. I guess VCR's weren't around in Oz when Purple Mk IV were on Sound Unlimited. As I recall, Donnie interviewed Ian Paice. One thing I do remember of that show was the Blackmore image from the back cover of Made In Japan as they went to and returned from each ad break, despite Ritchie no longer being part of the band. That would be a great one to see again! I was 13 at the time and excited that Purple were in town (didn't see them though).

@neckshredder1 Thank you for sharing this with us all. :) In my eyes, Ronnie was always the most dedicated musician and frontman, the kindest person ever, extremely professional and my all-time number one vocalist. Your memory of him only confirms my opinion. :) I was going to see Heaven and Hell this July but then had to return the ticket when the tour was cancelled. I was so excited to se Mr.Dio live on stage but I guess I'll have to wait till we meet on the other side of the Rainbow. :)

@HelloweenAndi Yeah, he was a true gentleman to us fans. \m/ I'll tell you something else interesting that you won't see in this interview coz it happened off air during an ad break. When Donnie played Love Is All, Dio seemed completely fascinated by it. When Donnie asked why, Dio said he'd never had the opportunity to see the film clip before. Gives you some idea of how busy the life of a full-time rocker must be. ;-)

@eyelessal Haha, no worries mate. Even though it was Craig Goldy on guitar at the concert instead of Vivian Campbell (that upset me a bit), we still experienced the awesome power of Dio belting out his best songs.

neckshredder1 - Yeah, I saw Dio in ‘84 with Viv and ‘86 with Goldy and Vivian just had a fire that Goldy couldn’t match. Craig eventually became a great player, though, as evidenced on Master of the Moon, the best Dio album that’s not called Holy Diver or Last In Line, IMO.

It is extremely rare to have a "Band" without a guitar player that is a complete narcissistic ass ! When it comes down to it , SINGERS like RJD (humble,, down to earth) are unique. Guitar players are a dime a dozen... Viv was a narcissist.... stranded on an island , I'll take DIO's voice over any instruments !! IT'S HIS VOICE AND WRITING TALENT that made the best music of all time ! Created his own genre of music..... there is very little to compare to. Most "Heavy metal" bands lack DIO's natural talent. RIP RJD !!!

I guess dio was 38-39 when I seen mob rules my ticket to the left. fantastic concert, seen bon Scott AC/DC just before he died ,June 8,1979 with ufo, thought Brian Johnson was a perfect fit, and seen scorpions blackout tour 1982, rainbow 79 with glenn Hughes and 80 with Joe Lynn turner and all of blackmore's other singers like Ian Gillan 1983 born again thinking dio was going to be there also Bev Bevan, Vinny appice left to form dio group but I agree with his choices. but I really like blue oyster cult lasers still in 79 seen again 81 then 92 at a local club, didn't think much of Ozzy Osbourne w/ Randy Rhodes diary of a madman 82 believe it or not. geezer butler was excellent glad no bill ward since I found out he had geezer fired for a period, dio was perfect for BS just as Sammy Hagar for VH though I had seen David lee Roth w/VH in 1980.
