Imagine Ronnie didn't even know this game when he came to replace Jimmy White that year and he still dominated the top 9 ball players. That shows the superiority of the snooker fundamentals.
@AlexZander6883 жыл бұрын
But Snooker players know how to run six color balls in order. Not much more difficult to run three more. And yes, Snooker fundamentals are stronger. You can't cheat those round pockets. And time has shown that O'Sullivan would become the best Snooker player of all-time.
@AlexZander6883 жыл бұрын
And in 2006 Johnny Archer thumped O'Sullivan in an 8-ball tournament. And Reyes ended up winning that major tournament. Too bad the $$ backer and tournament organizer was a con man failed to keep that tour going. ....How many times has O'Sullivan been fed up with the folks that organize and run the Snooker tour? Takes more than great Snooker fundamentals to win American type pool. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmeof6F6lpd2fdk

And he played with a Snooker Cue instead of a Pool Cue. The heavier pool balls means pool cues are heavier to accommodate the added weight. When he has to hit for power, he's got to massively compensate for the mass difference and it's amazing he hit some of the shots he did.

@@AlexZander688 The break and jump shots are so important in pool, pots are easy but there's a lot more to pool than just potting balls. As the pockets are so big the safety exchanges are tricky. There's variations of pool much more difficult than 9 ball or 8 ball and I think snooker pros like Ronnie have a lot of respect for pool players and there's snooker players who have made the switch to pool for whatever reason and the fact snooker players like O'Sullivan, Davis, Whyte, etc took the time to go and play some competitive pool says a lot about pool. Could be going to play pool helped O'Sullivan when he was getting fed up with snooker and the schedule travelling around the world to play in more and more tournaments every year.

It always makes me smile when they identify positional play as the thing snooker players WON'T have under control... They seem to always say "Course they are great potters, but what about the POSITIONAL play?" -- Position, you say? Have they got any idea of the positional ability and control required to make a 147 break? It is unfathomable. It's like saying, "Sure, Tiger can drive, but what about the bunker shots and the putting?" -- He can do it all. Just like Ronnie can do it all on the table... They are clutching at straws.

Its kinda funny. The brits assume that anything other than snooker is an american game and that Ronnie is really taking it to the americans. But it is really pretty equal here because Hopkins was known for straight pool. Not 9 ball. Just like you dont want to play Efren in Rotation or One Pocket. In 10 ball you have a better chance. Same here. 9 ball is not the best game for either of them.

And a great many players from the U.K. and Europe choose to play American pool or Chinese 8-ball pool. Snooker is a great game and has the highest paying tournaments, but it is not the be all end all of pool. Gareth Potts, Jason Shaw, Mick Hill, Zheng Yubo, Yang Fan, all great players that could have gone into Snooker if they wanted. Many players just prefer a different table and game.
@davidmellish32952 жыл бұрын
@@robdetuinman2 snooker tables are much harder ,forget the actual games of snooker and pool and the different tactics etc. I'm talking just about the tables,they are a lot bigger and the pockets are a lot smaller in relation to the size of the balls. ( obviously the balls are bigger in pool,but the pockets will take two balls and the snooker pockets will take 1 ball with a little space either side ) Pool tables except the balls in the pockets so much more,you don't have to be as accurate, the ball can hit the rail and still drop and you can cheat the pockets. In snooker you have to be more precise, hitting the middle of the pocket and if it hit the rail and bounced it will never go in like on a pool table. Pool tables even have diamonds marked on them to help with aiming/bank shots etc Say what you like about the games themselves being apples and oranges and there is more to pool than a lot of snooker fans realise BUT the FACT doesn't change, a pool table is a lot easier than a snooker table. That's why all the snooker players can play pool,they may not beat the pool pros as they don't know the nuances of the game BUT they can still give the pool players a match,whereas not to many pool players can play snooker. When snooker Pro go over to pool they can compete but when pool players try going to snooker as a few have ( Steve mizerak, massey even Efren had tried ) they all got DESTROYED at snooker . If you can pot at 12ft into small tight pockets then it's no trouble potting at 9ft into giant buckets. If all the pool pros played pool against the snooker pros they will probably come out on top BUT the snooker players will have given them a game ,with some winning BUT if they played pool using a snooker table with snooker balls ( just colouring the balls) I bet the snooker players would come out on top ad the pool boys would struggle on the snooker table
@robdetuinman22 жыл бұрын
Just like all the snooker boys would struggle on a pyramid table. Table same size as a snooker table but with bigger balls.
@THE_CHOAS_ENGINE Жыл бұрын
makes no sense at 45:00 why Allan decides to do that low % circus shot when the object ball is hanging over the pocket and all he had to do was kick to the opposite side rail and come back and tip the object ball in. I've done it many times for me that would be about a 40% shot but for Allan you'd think it would be a 80% shot. Makes ZERO sense what he did.

I really doesn't how pool players are proud of themselves and how do they believe when people call them greatest to hold a cue. Think about it, pool has bigger balls, biggest holes, shorter tables, broader cues. That itself makes pool inferior to snooker. Steve Davis smoked Efren. Jimmy White gave Efren a run for the money in his first ever pool tournament and he played efren in the final ( he murdered his way through to the final). The reason why snooker isn't that popular is because of the corrupt and incompetent governing body. It's like comparing mma(snooker) to boxing(pool). A great boxer is a great boxer. that's it. @PaulMarostica3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it is not possible to get good position for the next shot if the cue ball hits an object ball in the ideal spot to make the object ball go most ideally in to a pocket. So, sometimes a player will aim the cue ball a bit to 1 side of the ideal spot on the object ball, but not so much that the object ball will not go in, to try to get better position for the next shot. This technique is sometimes called "cheating the pocket". This could be the reason for some apparently sloppy shots that still go in, or miss. Or, it could be that a player just made a sloppy shot!
@jaybe29083 жыл бұрын
I think with some snooker players they don't give it the same concentration as they would in a big snooker tournament, Ronnie can be awful concentration wise sometimes added to that getting used to the different size balls/table, but if he is a different level in cue ability to the guy he was playing here, not to put the guy down but it wouldn't be a contest if Ronnie was really into the game.

Alan Hopkins yes, he was jumping out of his shot, head moving all over the place, repositioning while he was down on the shot, and stabbing stroke at the cue ball from time to time. But you can’t say that the greatest snooker player of all time has bad fundamentals. Bad shot choice, inexperience in 9ball, crappy break. Sure, I’ll give you those for Ronnie, buts it’s not his game. the sport of pool has grown leaps and bounds in the last 30years I mean what do you think Alan shot like Fargo wise 650-680, even 700 seems like a stretch. So todays players are way better, but that’s the way it works. Put any pro team against a team 30 years ago and see what happens. I guess what I’m saying is let’s cut Alan a little slack and if you haven’t watched Ronnie play snooker go do that right now, I think he is the best cue sport player of all time. Over Efren, SVB, Earl, all of them. And I’ll stir the pot a little more and say that snooker players are far superior to pool players.
