My niece reminded me of the accident she had in MO. On a Friday afternoon, leaving KU headed east, an air brake unit from a passing tractor trailer dropped off and proceeded to bounce into the windshield of her car. She was taken to a nearby small town, her wounds administered to by a local Dr. Her car was taken to a local garage and a new windshield ordered. That weekend she stayed with an older local couple and ate gratis at the local diner. She was back on the road Tuesday noontime. She is now teaching at Wichita State. We and her are thankful to the folks of MO who helped her so many miles from home. Narragansett Bay

Stay safe Ron and crew and Family 🤙🏽 For the people who are reading this, SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER!!!!!!.

More often than not, that is the case. Here, the officers know the fire dept can make it hard on them if them give them crap, and vice versa. Also, pretty much the same goes for the recovery crews. In our area, unless specifically requested by the owner, the recovery companies have his or her own territory as the fire departments do. So, you pretty much work with the same companies all the time. But in short, yes, its normally this way.

You've talked about cross training. Many years ago I organized the first ever cross training between our home town fire department and rescue unit. It took months of planning but it all came together where we practiced in the parking lot of our local high school. The focus was the fire departments brand new jaws of life. I persuaded friends and family to play the crash victims at our "wreck". The experience was great for both teams and people came out of the wood works to see what was going on... The take away for my "victims" was that they never wanted to be involved in a wreck because we used the KED, back boards, C collars, you know, the whole works on them. I find your videos very informative and it fills in the gaps I missed of what happens after we left the scene. Thank you!

Ron, What you need is a pick up stick to pick up that small stuff. I volunteer myself in my county assisting the local Emergency Services, Law Enforcement, and the NC Highway Patrol and the general traveling public as providing safety for the traveling public best I can. I use my personal truck more as a Utility vehicle because I have a solid tri-fold cover over the bed. In the back ( bed ) I have a lot of stuff to use in a situation such as that. I have a street broom, wheeled magenet, colapsible traffic cones, toe strap ( seldomed used ) and a lot of other stuff. When I see stuff in the road, I try as safely as possible stop and block traffic with my truck with the amber light bar on and hazzards, and if I can call the EOC advising I have debris in the road and I will get it up. We all work as a team. Me as a Retired Firefighter, that's what we done...work together. About a year ago, I was heading home and there was a lot of debris in the travel lane blocking all that lane and traffic was crossing over in the other lane to doge the mess. There could had been a serious crash if nothing was done. I stopped my truck in that lane in front of the debris blocking all traffic, got out, put on my High visible traffic vest, went to back of my truck and got my street broom and swept the stuff off the lane of travel, then got my magent and picked up lots of screws and nails. then I reopened the lane to let traffic flow. Yes, I done all this alone. No Law Enforcement was in that area then. At least I used my Firefighting skills on a crash scene in that incident. That is why I mentioned about having a pick up stick. It'll make it a lot easier to pick up all that small stuff and reduce the risk of cutting your hand although good gloves are great but they can protect only so much. I know because I been there and it's no fun being cut. This video made me think about what I encountered. I wanted to share that with you in this long comment. No matter what the situation, or incident, be safe out there you and your crew. You are best what you do and I know those you have helped were blessed to have you there. Always keep God first in all things. God bless. Michael from NW North Carolina

The flipping over of the truck reminded me of about 20 years ago when I was parting out an 87 E250 van. I wanted the 300-6 engine but wanted an easier way to remove it than out through the front. So I unbolted every body to frame bolt except the two by the front bumper. Then I pushed the front of the van up to a large tree, ran a tow strap around the tree up at 10-12 feet then ran a large chain down to the hole in the roof near the back doors and looping it back to itself. With my F150 hooked up to the frame it took 2-3 tries to accomplish the body frame separation. I wish I could have gotten it on video as the body basically hinged at the front bumper and lifted up and off, landing upside down. With the body off it was much easier to get to the engine and transmission.

I think I know what went wrong in that accident. That truck is older. And judging by how it honked its horn when you turned it around, I think its reactions were a little slow...Or a lot slow... That milk-crate would have made a good scoop for the stuff in the bed by the way. Also, you know you have the respect of a trooper when you ask if you can have the road for 5 minutes to make it easier and he says: "You can have it for half an hour, an hour if you need". He knows Ron Pratt isn't here to just look at the job, he's here to get it done! And real helpful firecrew. Just love seeing that. Good people working together.

When they started cleaning up the stuff from the bed of the truck I thought “with as much crap that’s in there, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a gun in that pile”. 2 min into cleaning it up, trooper finds a revolver lol

You know it's a farm truck when you can't remember how many guns were in it before the wreck. And yes, I've answered "do you have any weapons in the car?" with "you know damn well I do Ken. What do you need?"

watching you from russia. I work as a tow truck driver. I was glad to see that you guys veeery thankful to each other. and you clean the road together, that's nice. unfortunately in russia nobody clean the road. everyone thinks it is okay, don't care, somebody will clean it later... Imao. And police don't like to communicate with you if you asking about block the road for a while etc. they just say it's okay, don't care, you can do it. I said no, I need a space for working. He said what can I do? I'm busy with my paper work.. don't care they will pass you anyway.... Imao

I've been thinking on your comment about needing to reorganize the toolboxes again. On the rollback trucks, would shallow vertical chain and strap boxes located above the bed be a good addition? I'm picturing something out near the edge of the bed but inside the headache rack width so as not to impede vision, about cab height and maybe the 16" or so wide (about the width of the winch tray area), and maybe 8" or so deep. Would they get in the way of the payload too often? Given how well the chain carousel on the Rotator works, these would be stationary and smaller variant that could help keep things organized. Yes, I design equipment for a living and try to come up with tools and systems that make things easier to work with.

this made me a little sick, i love those 90s fords. that thing looks like it was nice too. i drive a 95 every day, looks a bit like that truck. last February, i hit some black ice on a 1 lane road and nailed 2 trees. i backed out of the ditch and drove that truck home. little bit of frame straightening later, and im back to driving the ol gal. ill never get rid of that truck. glad to hear the driver was ok. always enjoy your videos Ron, your professionalism and kindness is very evident. God bless.

arcflashed That was my thought too. Even though I'm a GM square body guy, I've owned a few Fords like that and they were good trucks. I sincerely wish the owner good luck finding a replacement for that F-250 at a reasonable price.
