I remember working with my son was he was 18. He told me once that he didn’t want to do it anymore because “dad loses his patience too much”. Instant flashback to working with my own dad and his short fuse. Best feedback I’ve ever received!

My father was/is like you and prat+1000% (but he did not spare the words when i did anything wrong). today i am a master and manage/does every big job we have and manage the crew). Still working in the same company. I like Ron's parenting style but with todays children i am a little bit more harsh than Ron. I am 37.
@michaelgarrison688Күн бұрын
I was lucky that my dad had lots of patience, other than for idiots. My dad's way of teaching was if you did not make a mistake, you did not learn anything new. At 9 yo, I knew how to do wiring, plumbing, framing, almost all aspects of renovation. Fathers should pass on the good things they know, warn of the bad things, and always encourage. I miss mine a lot.
@jacobtharp8837Күн бұрын
Dads are always harder on there own children I know first hand also being raised in a family business my dad always tells me that the reason he’s so hard on me and not others is he wants me to be the best even better than he he is so don’t take me being so harsh personal.

Pro tip for Ethan…. Sometimes you’ve just got to put it in first and let it ride up out of the ditch…. Every time it slid back into the ditch was when the brakes were applied. Let it ride up in first up out of the ditch and get recentered in the road. The natural engine resistance will keep it at idle. Even if you ride the whole hill in first, you can ride that down until it gets level and you can just push in the clutch and let it ease to a stop. Don’t beat yourself up too bad… the truck’s still upright.
@Racingnut24Күн бұрын
Definitely most rear wheel drive vehicles a good idea is to "tail drag" it down the hill with light braking. However as was stated when you are heading for the ditch let the tires roll a bit to help pull you out of the situation Good job Ethan
@michaelgarrison688Күн бұрын
Ethan did a wonderful job. It goes against instinct what needs to be done sometimes. His first time in winter on a big rig looked like mine. You sometimes have to just let it go and let the wheels track properly. Braking often gets the vehicle to just slide sideways. Gravel roads can be more dangerous than paved roads at certain temperatures.
@PetrolJunkieКүн бұрын
Yep. That natural instinct to go for the brakes got him every time he slid. The back end wanted to go faster than the front.
@agentcrm22 сағат бұрын
At least it slid into the ditch, that was the safer option. The other thing with braking is almost all vehicles apply more force to the front brakes than the rear. And yes the main thing is Ethan and the truck are ok.

Living in northern New York, I have to say that was totally awesome recovery for all involved. So glad it went well, no damage to the snow plow, the driver or any of your equipment other than the handle on the new truck. On top of all that, having to do the recovery in such dangerous conditions. Stay safe.

The brave one in this recovery was Ethan. Going into the culvert and then around the truck on unknown surface which could move under the slightest pressure or cause a slip takes bravery. Hopefully there are no long lasting effects from the shrubbery, barb wire or ice cold water. Well done to the team.

You have trained you crew well at working together. My son worked at one tow business and he was frustrated that the drivers only knew what to only on the truck they were sssigned. He had one call snd needed two other trucks to help him. He said it was a circus trying to get them to work together. I told him to tell the owner what happened and he had to straighten it out or he was going to quit. The owner told my son he was promoted to forman and staighten your problem out. He almost walked out the door and said ok only if he could fire the bad ones. Owner said he hired my son because of his experence with the heavy truck. Just don't fire them on the same day. He fired 3 by the time they were working together. 😊😊😊😊😊😊.
