Helping a customer who took their Ram to the River to collect driftwood and almost got sucked into the mighty Mississippi. I start out by scouting the situation with our off-road recovery and traffic control unit #16, a Dodge Ram 1500. Will it be enough to get the job done??? Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

In an emergency if you don’t have a land anchor you can use a spare wheel. You did a ditch deep enough to drop the tyre into . You angle it slightly away from the direction of pull and attach the line near the bottom so that it pulls the tyre into the ground.

Nice video today Ron...! With all the sand warm weather and lake nearby, it almost reminded me like it was a day at the beach... I went back and watched that video from 2017 you listed above. Wow Ron...! That was just insane that the guy didn't slow down and move over...! And awesome that the policeman went after him... Man, you & your guys put your life right on the line out on the highways...!!! Understandably you got upset... Heck I would too...! Made me upset and mad just seeing him not slowing down... Thank you for this video today... It always makes my day seeing you and hearing your voice of reasoning...! You keep us going knowing that there are good folks like yourself out in the world...! Love your channel...!!!!!!!!!!

Ron, when you were talking about your grandson, it brought back a lot of memories. My son is 56 years old now, but when he was just an infant, he was just old enough to be able to squirm around and he squired himself right off the bed onto the floor. It just about scared the life out of me. Thank God he wasn't hurt, but it sure put the fear in me for a while! Great job getting that truck out without using a real "tow truck"! As always, thanks for your time in making these. Down here where we live, it's quite common to get something stuck in the sand. We have quite a bit of it -- my husband got our car stuck on the beach at New Smyrna Beach just south of Daytona Beach, and it burned the reverse gear out of the automatic transmission back in early 1967!

Technically the pin you screw into the horse shoe shape part is a clevis pin, and the horse shoe part is the yoke. The two together make up a shackle.
@equipment-enthusiast

I've heard both. Just a matter of what part of the country your from I guess. I typically call them shackles but I immediately know what a person needs if they do call it a clevis.

The banks of the Mississippi are sandy . I did not know that. Im on Long Island NY, where all of our shoreline is sandy, Don't really know why I am surprised about that. I guess I just assumed that only ocean beaches were sandy and that an inland riverbank would be soil and mud. The things I learn from watching Ron Pratt never cease to amaze me.

@@terryfromsouthcarolina4601 I think it all depends on where in the country you live. Each area has specific names for similar items. As long as everyone in the conversation can figure it out, who cares. However, if you need to buy the item, you need to be able to explain what you want. Per Wikipedia: A shackle, also known as a gyve, is a U-shaped piece of metal secured with a clevis pin or bolt across the opening, or a hinged metal loop secured with a quick-release locking pin mechanism.

You mentioned "Slow Down - Move Over". In central California where I'm from, there were what were called, "Lookie-Loos!" Anything going on along the divided highway, they had to see what was going on. Even to the point to slowing down in the fast lane, so they could look to see what happened in the lanes going the other way. A lot of the divided highways in the Sacramento area had landscaping shrubbery in the center divider. In some places the shrubs were tall enough it hampered seeing the lanes going the other direction. One day going home from work, I could see ahead in the opposing lanes, there had been someone pulled over with car trouble. And it was obvious the Lookie-loos slowed down and were rear-ended, causing a chain reaction pile up. There were cars on my side up ahead in the fast lane hitting their brake lights. So I moved over to the slow lane. When I got up to the scene, one of the worst wrecks on my side, was a Caddie that had slowed down to see what was going-on, on the other side of the divider. He was rear-ended by a Corvette "at speed!" The Caddie nose-dived, and when the Corvette hit, it went under the Caddie like a wedge, raising the Caddie almost totally off the ground. Luckily, I kept my distance from the cars in front of me, and I looked up just in time to see the car in front of me rear end the car in front of him. I wasn't sure cars behind me had seen that, so I pulled off on the shoulder, and drove around the remaining wrecks, until there were no more "lookie-loos". I then drove home safely, with no more "lookie-loo" problems. I told myself when I first started driving. If I ever get in an accident, it will be because I wasn't paying attention. Knock on wood! I haven't had an accident yet! Another time I was going to work. I was almost to my off ramp, when there was a thick fog bank. I could hear tires squealing, and then the sound of an impact. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder. The cars behind me went on into the fog. There was more tire squealing and sounds of impact. I drove slowly on the shoulder and made it to my off ramp. If I had been any less alert, I would have driven into that fog like everyone else. Pay attention people! What's happening in the opposing lanes shouldn't concern you. What is happening anywhere in front of you should be your only concern. Including emergency vehicles and flashing lights. You in a hurry? Getting into an accident will sure make you late to anything but your funeral.
