I think Talon made the right call. Some young ones would have just gone " I got this" and end up ripping up the yard.. So Credit goes to Talon for making the right move. Probably Talon called for help because he could not get the customer to shut up long enough to get the job done. Ron is more diplomatic with the customers who insist the job be done their way and will not get out of the way.

Excellent video, when I did my IVR training, we had to do the resistance calculations before starting the recovery. Most operatives would just have just have dropped the anchor cleats and ripped the road up. You did it with no damage to the casualty or the terrain, so well done to you!

This really puts things into perspective. I had a driver snap a winch cable pulling my car out of a field when I was a teenager. I thought it was weird but my car was up to the frame. Didn't even think of that the first time I watched this video. Great video as always Ron.

One of the hardest lessons I learned when I was coming up in my field was to drop back and ask for help. And often as not, by the time I came around to asking to help I was in worse trouble than I had been to begin with. It's good to see Talon being smart and asking for help.

Rigging is probably the hardest thing to learn to avoid damage I am sure. Also proper rigging can be the difference between life and death with that kind of tension especially.

We had a neighbor loose an 8 wheeler tractor and large cultivator into a swamp many moons ago. It took 3 large tow trucks and 3 d6 cats with winches. Was one hell of a mess by the time we were done. We used our cats and had to drag the trucks across the field into winching position then dug holes in which we back our dozers into to winch. When we were finally on solid ground with the tractor we had pulled the dozers into the ground about 8 feet. The trucks had to have deadmans to even do anything. The hole where that tractor went in is still there. Sign up by it with the gentleman's name on it. RIP John ....

WOW! I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it, that little dumper with only one tandem stuck could have been enough to drag the tator with the brakes on & the riggers deployed. That was a pretty darn hard pull for what it looked like it was going to be. Also tell Talon he shouldn't feel bad for asking for help.... because when that little voice inside you says I might need a hand with this one, only a fool would continue on his/her own. That is how people get hurt or things get damaged and then you have a even bigger problem. It is the same thing as there is no such thing as a dumb question, you might get a stupid answer but the only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked.

Doesn’t “tandom” mean (in this case) one set of wheels ahead of another? Like Ron said, Talon only had one rear axel, so I am thinking tandoms would be two rear axels. Is that right? I am not sure if the third axel counts since it is not always in use.

That was really amazing! I had no idea that a small dump truck could create that much resistance for the rotator. It sure surprised me when the rotator started going backwards. Reminds me of "dumping" a RV into the sewer on a campground here in Europe. A little bit too far backwards and down the wheel went... A friendly and helpfull guy tried to pull us out with a car. No way! At last we lifted the RV with a jack and filled the sewer funnel with wooden logs to come free finally. And the best of all: the rented RV didn't got any scratch! Tales you can tell your grandchilds... ;-)

Yeah resistance aint no joke.had a small mazda 323 from the 80s (980kg car) stuck in mud behind our old house where our family lived at the time. We were moving and needed it to be moved but it sunk down into the ground down to its belly. It took the combained power of a 4x4 pickup and an other car to pull it out. 4500kg of weight and compained 300hp to pull less than a 1000kg car.

Ron that was a long & hard pull, but u & Talon got the job done safely. I like that trick putting the blocks straight up & down between the axles instead of laying them flat on the ground. I've seen u do that in other videos to get the Tator stabized. Great job well done. God Bless

Never a dull moment,even the simple jobs can throw us a curveball. I once had a Jeep Cherokee that ran off the road because the driver was drunk. It was upright in some swampy ground with little trees all around so I just tossed a set of J's on the rear axle and started pulling. Well the damn thing wouldn't budge,I was just pulling my truck back and the rear axle was lifting on the Jeep.The fireman and I started to scratch our heads because we didnt see anything holding the Jeep.That was until we took a closer look and there was a small tree that speared the radiator and punched a hole in the firewall. When i started pulling the metal dug into the tree and the roots held strong lol. We cut the tree at the grill and she came right out but thankfully the guy didnt have a passenger and the tree went down the passenger side or he would have been speared by it too.

I learned this on a MUCH smaller scale with my Polaris Sportsman 800 when she was fenders-deep in the muck. 3,500 lb. winch nearly stalled pulling the 800 lb. machine out of that quagmire! Wish I knew how many amps that thing was pulling on my poor battery! It was ALOT, I know that much! Great video, and physics lesson! Looking forward to that next one. So, sleep deprived as you seemed, you didn't double lined and had a 12 ton dumpster draging your 34 ton tator back. I saw that happen with a little Sedan over here. And it was a even heavier Rotator on Mercedes w/ 5 axles. ( germans build those things on german trucks, we all have that sort of pride in machines, don't we?) The man who dug it in was helpfull all the way and you seemed to like it, that someone was not just relying on you, but helping with it. the Midwest Yellow Angels have done a great job again. be safe and god bless.

Great job. I thought it would just keep ploughing - but the timber jams was all that was needed. The 1150R took it in its stride but as you stated a single cable was pushing it a little. Massive torque/power all on idle!

I remember I had a month of April many years ago, new homes being built, and I had 8 different concrete mixer at different days in that month, upside down in peoples basements, those are long days.... Mind you, my trucks had no where near the lifting ability of today's rigs, by the 3rd mixer upside down, we ended up digging holes at the front and back mounting areas of the drum, to remove the bearing caps and hydro lines, of course, after the drums were secure, climb out the basements, and pull the rig out then the drums.... which by that time, the drums cargo had already set off hard to one side, I do not miss those days, no matter how much money I made, half a days work and sometimes, had to wait several days, for the contractor or help the contractors, to sure the building up safe for us to work... Homes were $200,000.00 to $400,000.00, $150,000.00 concrete mixers, $5000.00 to $30,000.00 to completely demo the house out of the way or for the contractor to sure things up for us to get down to do what we had to do. $8000.00 to $20,000.00 for the recovery... I bet the two concrete company's insurance company's were happy..as my price kept going up as it was cheaper for my trucks to be on site for crane work, while the contractors would do their thing in demo'ing, then hiring in a crane company at $1200.00 per hour, lol... The building code inspector had a chat with the two concrete company's that they had better get some training in on their drivers, meaning ,to stop driving along the side of new home contruction that have basements or they will be black balled, so I heard the conversation to be. Yes, those concrete company's, both are still in business, and as far as I know, they have not dropped a truck in a basement since...lol

Yep a lot of resistance when you have to do direct pull instead of being able to set up and lift the man's rear end up and walk it around. Mother Nature might have made soft ground to burry his truck but she was making it a little ruff to plow. Tallon made the right decision in calling you for assistance because with his rig could have been some serious damage done under the conditions. Good job on both of you. Thanks for sharing sir.

Ron Pratt I had a thought when the Rotator started moving. my thought was to pull Talon's truck near yours, use a snatch-block / double the cable, and use the second truck as a anchor. Half the speed, twice the pull, and spit the load between the two trucks!
